Snapper Wiring Issue-Three wires near starter-Model 250816BE

I have a 250816BE with a wiring issue with the three wires near the starter. The two wires coming out near the top of the starter are red and black. I have a single white wire that connected to these wires(one or both). The plug was damaged when I bought the mower. Some one sent me a wiring schematic but I still couldn't tell how to hook these wires up.



Currently the red wire is hooked to the white wire and the black wire is just hanging(I did this and I believe it is wrong). The mower runs rough(when throttle is set high I am only getting about a third power and is maybe miss firing a bit).



I can send a picture if anyone is an expert at the wiring.
