Can i reduce valve clearance/lash by lapping?
Hi, this is my first engine rebuild and it's a briggs 12.5 HP (285707-0113-01).
Had a broken connecting rod and am putting everything back together and am to the point of checking the valves. My intake valve is ok, but the exhaust valve is at .014 and it is supposed to be no more than .011.
Will lapping that valve some more with valve grinding compound get it down where it needs to be? Would it require a lot of grinding to get the .003 off? Or should i buy a new valve?

toro mower18" starts easily but dies after a second, pull the ropes starts again
This mower is 28 years old been sitting for ever. Pull and cleaned carb with spray cleaner, replaced needle and seat, primer blub and spark plug. Replaced fuel line checked to make sure fuel filter inside tank was not gumed up an fuel flowed steady. This carb had no adjustment other than float. Ran a thin copper wire through all orifices.I'm at a loss thanks
New Short Block won't run
Any help appreciated. I have a briggs 28Q777-0678-E1. This is a 2000 15HP engine on a Dixon ZTR. The recommended short block is 697762. However, even though everything fit up great, reworked carb, lapped valves but the thing wont run. The SB fits model 28 and 31 Briggs engines, and the parts list show same flywheel, valves, head ect. for both series. :confused2:But it just sputters and back fires. Seems like it has the wrong flywheel, but that's not what the parts listings say?? I am stumped!
Kohler dumping fuel
Need a little advise please. 2009 troy built Bronco 42inch deck rider with 20HP Kohler . Mower is dumping fuel thru the carb, it will stream out of the air cleaner when starting, mower does run but will 'pop' during operation. Fuel drips even when parked. I hate to just throw parts at it ---- where should I look first. Thanks in advance.

1970s or 1980s still in use mower.
I have this jacobsen mower that I use at my grandmothers house to cut her lawn. Only mower I have ever used to cut her lawn and always works. I just wondered if you guys could tell me the model of it I been thinking about trying to maybe restore it. Clean it up a bit and re-paint it, it really is amazing lawn mower.1781945_10205018469092306_1918160806885269712_n.jpg10001353_10205018468372288_3278530195564021719_n.jpg
Is this transaxle swap possible?
I have 2 Yard-Machines (MTD) mowers that I'd like to swap the transaxle on. I want to use the Hydrostatic transaxle from a 1997 Series 695 and put it into an earlier similar model that has a 7 speed transaxle and is 4-wheel steer. I just bought that one and haven't found the model info yet. I know I would have to use the pedal assemblies and fenders, running boards etc. from the donor. On the surface it looks to me like it might be doable. I can get more info on the receiver machine but I thought I'd start by asking if it is even plausible.
Mower deck D-130 42" Mower Deck Problem
I own a John Deere D-130 with a 42" twin blade mowing deck. I have to be honest and say this was a big mistake buying this model with the 42" mowing deck. In plain English the mowing deck sucks, ooops! No I mean it stinks, I wish it did suck. Previous to this tractor I owned a Toro Iron Horse with a 36" mowing deck that cleanly sucked up leaves without any blow out on either side of the deck. What mean by this is that the Toro deck made a clean sweep like a vacuum cleaner. My D-130 deck picks up leaves but also blows out leaves on the pickup chute side which makes you have to drive in a clock wise fashion. If you drive in a counter clock direction the deck will blow leaves back onto the cleaned lawn side. I've directed my complaint to John Deere and the dealer with a video showing exactly what I was complaining about and it fell on deaf ears - very surprising for what is supposed to an up standing company. I have tried using shredder blades and the result was no change. Tried running at a lower engine RPM and had very little difference. I added an air escape vent on the bagger unit to lessen any possible back pressure and that minimally helped. If there is anybody out there that has run into the same problem I would appreciate if they can give me any solution that they found. I'm in the dog house now because my wife constantly tells me I should have not sold the Toro tractor why? Because she loves doing the leaf cleaning up job!
Attachments Suspension for Sears 1976 ST10
Haven't posted on here in a while, but need some input on shocks and leaf springs for a vintage Sears ST10 lawn tractor. I'm going to build a custom make over of this little mower. Here's what is planned: 18" leaf springs for the rear trans axle, (removing the bolts that hold the tranny to the frame and plasma cutting 2-3" curvature on each side of the frame to allow axle movement. (2) fabricating shock mounts to the frame and axle supports. (3) cutting an extra 1/2" into the front frame lip to allow 2" up-down movement of the pivoting front axle. (4) fabricating shock mounts to the frame and the pivoting front axle. My question concerns the shocks I found that are short enough and with 2" piston travel. The shocks I chose are used on a Arctic Cat snowmobile, part# 04-250. Anyone have an idea if these shocks would be soft enough to dampen the ride over rough ground, or would they be too stiff for the weight( guessing around 350-400lb for the tractor. If the springs are too stiff for the mower, I can experiment by removing springs from the 3 leaf unit. I forgot to mention I've already replaced the 10HP Tecumseh with a new GX620 v-twin Honda engine. The gas tank and rear fenders will be from a Sears SS16 that had the tank in the rear and fenders indented for the larger plastic tank. Plan to also use the flip seat brackets from the SS16 along with a new shock-spring loaded seat. Just need some input if the shocks I've chosen would be suited for the weight of the machine. Thanks for any input.
Mower deck 725 Front mount 61" Power lift won't maintain cutting height
Title pretty much describes my problem. It is a 2004 year model that I bought new in 2006. The last couple of years after setting cutting height at 2 1/2", when I mow for about 30 minutes on a little bit rough yard, the cutting height slips down about 1/4" and sometimes the electrical switch on the power lift mechanism will shut off the electric clutch. I then bump the height adjustment back up to the original height and everything is fine for another 30 minutes. I realize this is not an earth shaking problem, compared to everything else, just a nuisance. Only 360 hours on the machine. Everything seems to still be tight. Any ideas??
Do the oil seals on a briggs lawnmower engine sit flush with the housing?
Briggs engine model 285707
It's a 12.5 (i think) HP, L head engine. My first teardown and rebuild... do the oil seals (one on blade side, and one on flywheel side) go all the way to the bottom, or do they sit flush with the engine housing at the top?
Here is a picture of each seal sitting flush with the engine, and hopefully you can see how much room is left underneath it.

Drive belt on Simplicity Coronet (1692515) slipped off- how to put back on
The drive belt on my Simplicity Coronet hydrostatic drive riding mower recently slipped off when I went over a bump. The belt is still in-tact, and this is the only time the drive belt has slipped off in the 10 years I have owned the mower (it's a 2000 Simplicity Coronet - model/part number 1692515), and I have to put it back on without taking the transmission off. Just trying to learn some tips for how to do that since it's a tight fit in the space where the drive belt is located when connected to the motor/engine pulley, the transmission pulley, and the tensioner (is this also referred to as the 'idler'??) pulley.
So far I have muscled the belt back onto the motor/engine pulley (it was tough getting it to fit between the guard and the pulley channel), wrapped the belt around the transmission pulley, and I'm having trouble putting the belt back into the tensioning pulley due to the guard that's built onto that pulley as well as the fact that a spring is keeping tension on that pulley. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get this belt back on as well as perhaps a diagram of the belt installation so I know I'm putting it on correctly?

Walk behind anti-reverse wheels damage lawn
A "safety" feature prevents wheels from turning backwards when mower is pulled backwards. You have to push forward a second time just a bit to release the catch. Time and again the non-turning wheel doesn't release and digs and pulls a chunk out of the turf. Where the mower is stopped by a raised-bed board, it can't be pushed forward, so it has to be wrestled or lifted to allow it to move backwards.
I realize that the design standards were created by lawyers who live in Miami condos and think everyone who actually uses these devices do so on hills of wet grass wearing flip-flops or bedroom slippers. For me in the real world, this supposed safety feature is a damned nuisance, and I would like to disable it.
Anyone know how to disable these anti-back turn wheel mechanisms?

Something strange is happening !
Hello , I have a John Deere 170 (1989) that still is a fantastic machine to this day ! A few years back , the safety switch connection for stopping the blades when you get off the seat broke , but I didnt care as I get on and off frequently and I am aware of the blades turning and am careful . So there was never any problems . I purchased and installed a new battery for it in May this year . I was very ill for 4 months and didnt use the tractor at all . When I finally did use it again , the engine would stall when I turned the blades on via the pto switch . Having needing to sharpen the blades anyhow and after removing the deck (checked that out as well and deck pulleys were good and free spinning) , I tried again to engage the blades and it stalled again . Thinking the pto clutch maybe was binding , or rusted due to a few "wet" grass cuttings , I removed that and sat it on the ground and tried again and it stalled again ! Thinking it was the pto switch , I went and got a new , installed it , and the engine still stalls ! I am stumped as everything was great 4 months ago , it sat in my shed , I go to use it , and now this happens ! Any thoughts on this ?
Lawnboy 10323 Duraforce
My 10323 was runing too fast. Tried turning back, but no luck. Cleaned carburetor totally, and now it wont fire up. It has spark, and noticed gasoline around spark plug. Is this flooded? What is best method to fix? I can fix some things, but still lack lots of skills. Any help will be appreciated.
Preferred method for storing Lawn-Boy (2-Cycle) during off season?
In the past I've let it run out of gas and then did the oil in spark plug hole method, but since I started using Seafoam (stabilizes fuel for up to two years) a few weeks ago I'm wondering if just leaving it be for the winter would be a better method (I know it would be easier).
So, for those that don't use their mower year round, what is your preferred method for storing your Lawn-Boy (2-Cycle) during off season?
Thanks.

Need advice on old Jonsered (Stiga?)
I was on my phone, on Craigslist, killing time on a road trip, and I found this mower.
I did some searching but can't come up with much other than it seems to be an older Jonsered, which I had never heard of, and which seems was some time ago absorbed by Husqvarna. I tried doing a bunch of google searches but all I can come up with is articles from the current Jonsered website, or websites that sell the new ones. Obvioulsly those aren't objective sources of information.
[EDIT: I found some pics that indicate it's a Stiga, not a Jonsered. Still, I have the same questions]
So, questions....
What is this thing? Age? Quality? Reliability? Parts availability? Known issues/problems? I know nothing about them.
The guy wants $300 for it, or best offer. Good price, bad price, or about what it's worth?
Thanks

Repairs First post first riding Mower, safety switch help
Hi all, I just bought a Craftsman 917 256522 15.5 hp B and S. It drove and mowed fine when I bought it but after an hour ride on the trailer it started acting up. First it started fine but when I tried to engage the transmission it just died. After a bit of messing with it it did not want to start at all. It turned over but did not start. I had a friend look at it the spark plug was shot so i replaced it, he said the magneto might be bad but considering it ran the day before I did not agree that was the problem. So after doing some reading here I tried again after unplugging the magneto ground wire. It fired right up. So now I know it is a safety switch problem what is the best way to figure out with switch is bad? Thanks for any help
Fuel Toro recycler mower - Dirt in carburetor
Toro recycler model 20384, purchased 2012
The mower was surging pretty bad. I had to remove and clean the carburetor which solved the problem. Should I assume that the surging problem was caused by dirt in the gas? The gas in my 5 gallon gas can was three months old. Questions:
(1) Should I not keep gas in the gas can for three months?
(2) During the summer, should I add Stabil to the gas can to keep the additives from coming out of solution? Is this even the right question?
(3) How do I clean out my gas can so that this problem does not reoccur?

Snapper331416bve axle bearing replace
Over the summer I picked up a Snapper 331416bve for free. The mower runs great, and is in very good condition. The only problem is the Left fender and axle bearing were ruined where the po tried to remove the bearing. I have a new fender and bearing in the garage. The nearest machine shop is 45 minutes away, so I am asking is there any way other than a press that I can install this bearing. I read somewhere about using a large bolt, washers, and nut to press the bearing in. How do y'all replace them. Thanks. I'm new here, but my current project is a 1966 Sears Suburban SS12 restore. Think I am going to fall in love with these Snappers.
toro 455D deck leveling
Good morning all, I am new to this forum so please be patient with me if I do or say something stupid. The first thing I need help with is , leveling the cut on the mower. The unit is a 1994 Groundsmaster 455 D. The mower was just bought by me and has 3500 hours on it. Everything seems to be in fair shape. I have replaced the wheel bearings on all the ground wheels. The deck is 128" cut front mounted "Bat-Wing" When I cut the right bat-wing seems to cut much lower than the center or left bat-wing. I am about done for the season so I will have time to repair the deck. Thank you...Jim
Info on Hustler 261
Hey - found a good deal on a Hustler 261 - looks like a tank compared to some big-box stores Zero Turns. I can't tell from the pictures, or from online parts stores if it uses an electric PTO or not. Also, any comments about the goods and bads of these older "out-front" style zero turns. Thanks.

Super Z breaking exhaust pipe out of muffler.
Hi there,
I have a 2009 Super Z and the exhaust pipe coming from the engine has broken away from the muffler.
This will make the third muffler in 400hrs. Is there something I should be looking for that might be causing this or something I may be able to do to prevent this from breaking again?
Thanks,
Chris

National Mower help
My Dad has 2 old Nationals. Newer one is an 84 Triplex. We are having a tough time ordering parts, as we don't have a manual. He's been ordering parts and its always the wrong part. All we need is the numbered tractor schematic with the corresponding list. Can anyone help? We've looked everywhere online, found an 8400, but not the 84 Triplex. Thanks

Gravely Promaster 44Z Fuel Problem
Hi guys!
Let me give what info I can and see if it can help you in knowing what my problem might be. A couple of weeks ago I went to cut my grass and it ran about 5 minutes and then the motor killed. Now the it won't stay running, unless the choke is on, and even then it try's to kill until I wiggle it back and forth. It is of my opinion it may be one or more problems from the following list below.
1. Since I can keep it running by wiggling the choke, the carburetor may not be getting enough fuel when the choke is released.
2. A gasoline line leak.
3. A vacuum leak.
4. A dirty or bad carburator.
5. The gasoline caps are not holding a vacuum.
6.Moisture in the fuel tanks
7. Trash in the fuel tanks.
* Take not that at first I thought it might be bad gas, so I tried putting Sea Foam in what gas I had left in the tank be I still have the problem. I also changed the fuel filter, and checked to see if fuel ran pass my fuel filter, and it was pumping though.
What do you guys think is my problem?

Grass Catcher Attachment on my LA120 Won't Pick Up Leaves
I have the grass catcher on my JD and whenever I want to catch leaves with it, the leaves shoot out the right side of the deck. Some collect in the bags, but mostly I seem to be moving leaves from one side of the yard to the other. Does anyone know what causes this?

MTD Yardman tractor style won't turn over
MTD yardman hydrostatic trans 42" deck. Ive been having trouble getting my Kohler command 16hp to turn over. Battery is fully charged at 12.7 volts, getting 12v into the starter solenoid, ignition connection to solenoid is ok and making it click but no power going to starter, tried bypassing the solenoid by jumping and still nothing. I also used jumper cables to connect battery directly to starter and still nothing. Is it possible that both the starter and solenoid could go out simultaneously? Could the motor have locked up? What's the best way to test it before I start buying parts or another mower?

Gravely Pro 460 V Toro Z Master 6000
I have about 10 acres with a bit of slope so after much research arrived at needing a wide mower with a good stance, good quality build and service within a short distance. That brought me down to two mowers.Gravely Pro 460 and the Toro Z Master 6000 60". I know there are many others that are just as good or arguably better but the service distance is a factor. Looking for differing points, Gravely has a shorter warranty, 3 v 5 years, Toro is more expensive, Toro has smaller motor, 27 v 31 Kawasaki. Apart from that they all look great build. What I dont have experience in is the transmission side of things. Is there a big difference between the two. Opinions on which way to go gratefully listen too. Cheers

Its been a great work horse for several years. The mower itself is pretty beat up but it always starts and gets the job done. About two months ago, when I would start it up and engage the blade, it would die. Acted like a safety switch was killing it as I engaged the blade. I could slowly move the lever up and most of the time I could get it going. Last time I was mowing I hit a fence post with the right from wheel, gave it a pretty good jolt and it died immediately. Can not get it to start at all, will not turn over, no power. I checked the battery, the fuse and both are good. I did a visual inspection of the seat safety kill switch and it seems fine. So now I am stuck. Not much of a mechanic, but I tinker till I figure things out. Before I start taking everything apart and have a bigger mess than when I started, does anyone have a specific suggestion? It has a Kohler engine model CV16S.

Noise after replacing pulley on transaxle, any ideas?
My old Craftsman II had a rusted out pulley on the trans-axle so I replaced it and now have other problems, it is making a kind of grinding noise while in gear which it did not do before, it then acts like it has lost power then jerks ahead. It was dark out when I was putting it back together and didn't drive it much just need to know if there is anything I should look for. I did use my torch to heat the old hub and used a puller to remove the old hub and pulley and tried not to heat the shaft too much, just not sure if I could have damaged a bearing or if the new pulley is rubbing on something. I did not have a retainer clip to put on top of the new pulley, it was out of stock at my local parts store so possibly the new pulley might have moved at an angle up or down and rubbed something, not sure exactly what is going on but any thing I might check that you know of would be helpful. Thanks. Model is 917252500 , no noise while engine is running until it is in gear.
Mower won't start
I put in a new battery and mowed for one hour and shut it off for 15 minutes and it wouldn't restart. Just a loud ckicking sound. Could it be the selinoid?
Is this a good deal?
I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a Hustler XOne 48" deck. Close out new for $7725. What do you think?
Opinions on changing company name
I have some problems with the name I have right now and having a laywer would be far too expensive for what I need. So, it leaves me with changing names as a final solution. Luckilly, the company is still "young" so the impact would not be as bad. I am just worried about loosing some clients. All tho, they recognise me by the work I do and my name. Not necessarily the company name. Another issue would be reputation. I don't want to lose it. And yes I do know it will cost me to change names, but it is cheaper than having a laywer fight for me.
Crabgrass
Hi all,
I live in CT and I have a lot of crabgrass in my yard (CT). They all yellow now because they are dead. Do I need to detach/ remove them so I can seed grass? Or this dead crabgrass will disappear in the spring if I use pre-emerging crabgrass preventer? Thanks in advance!

Pennzoil 2 Stroke Oil
Has anyone used Pennzoil Multi purpose 2 cycle oil yet? I have almost given up trying to find good ole LB oil. And have tried all the Multi ratio Pro mix and what have ya. So I thought I,d try the Pennzoil which is pretty easy to find around here. It seems to run a lot better on the Pennzoil than the Pro Mix I had been using. One thing I do miss is the puff of blue smoke when you first start it up. The 10201 just won,t do it. My 10424 dura force would always puff a bit at first start. I always thought it was the LB oil.
Electrical Problem with John Deere Hydro 185 HELP!!
Hello all,
Over the past few weeks, I have been fixing up an old John Deere 185 riding lawn mower that had not been run in 6 or 7 years. Finally, I have got all the problems fixed except for the last one: an issue that prevents the ignition from starting the engine when I turn the key.
This isn't to say that I'm not able to get it to run. Currently, what I am doing is crossing two prongs on (what I understand to be) the starter (see picture), per the advice of the fellow I bought it from. Right now, I am crossing the little plug sticking out with the screwdriver to the plug with the red wire attached to it.
Currently, when I turn the key all the way over, the dash lights flicker, but nothing happens.
There is a line/plug that sticks into the little plug on the left, but again, when it's connected, nothing happens.
IMG_20141010_182130.jpg
The guy I got it from suggested he thought it was a relay gone bad. If this is the case, is there an easy way to figure out what sort of relay I would need to replace?
I've put alot of blood and treasure into getting this mower fixed up thus far, and I'd really like to get this last issue solved.
Any ideas? If you think you know what the problem might be, but need more pictures, please let me know and I can take them.
Thank you so much for your help in advance!

Drive pulley replacement help needed- rear axle pulley
I have an older model riding mower and the rear drive pulley needs to be replaced, I bought a new pulley and removed the retaining ring but the outer part of the pulley rusted off the shaft and came loose when I tried to see if it would just pull off, it didn't. There is a piece that is not square but close that looks like it needs to come off but I don't know how it comes off. The model is 917252500 and the diagram does not show it listed for this model, how does it come off ? Also under it the shaft is similar to the nut/ spacer that I can't get off, almost square but all 4 points are different and it is kind of scalloped in between the points. Any help would be appreciated....................................... .................................................. .................................................. ...............................................OK, I just went to youtube and watched a video, it looks like the stock pulley has the odd shaped center section ( kind of square but not round like the replacement pulley I bought) so I just have to pull it off the transaxle..........what is the best way to pull that pulley off and can it be done while still on the tractor or do I need to pull the transaxle? I have a torch and will try heating it up and using a gear puller to get it off the shaft tomorrow unless someone has a better way to do it.
Tires New 2103 Snapper Pro S150XT
Just picked up my new Snapper Pro S150XT Kaw 24, 52". Leftover last year model. This model has the Hydo-Gear 5400 transaxles! The dealer said he had a hard time selling the (5) units
he received. Four 48", and one 52" mowers. I bought the last one he had. (think I stole it for $5699). He said he won't order anymore because they don't sell well down here. He gathered
from the customers that they considered Snapper mowers as residentioal grade. He couldn't convince customers that these "PROs" were better. Most commercial guys down here use Scag,
Dixie Chopper, Hustler. He said they shyed away from these Snapper Pros. Big Mistake,
My son had a 2007 Dixie Chopper 2350 classic while in nursing school, to make money. I bought it for him, and sold it when he finished mowing with it. He really likes the SnapperPro S150XT.
The boy across the street has been cutting commercially with our old Dixie Chopper for 5 years. He came over and really liked the Snapper Pro. He said it looked like a Ferris. I explained the
differences to him. I changed out the tires to ITP AllTrail for better grip while cutting the 3 acres. Surprized that they don't "cleat" very much at all! Well, anyway this thing is a beast.
I've got about 5 hours on it and love it. This is my upgrade from a worn out Craftsman ZTR residential. This will probably last the rest of my life.
Just my 2 cents

Kohler Courage 18 twin cam quit working while mowing
My Troy-Bilt mower quit working today while I was mowing the yard. It suddenly turned off and made a noise like a small piece of metal tinging on something as it shut down. It won't start now and shows no sign of firing. I never worked on an engine like this before and have no Idea what broke. While trying to restart it, it was again making that tinging noise that it made when it quit running. Anyone have any thoughts as to what went out in it?

Normal for Spindles Leaking Oil/Grease on Pro-Turn 48
I noticed oil/grease marks coming from the spindles around 20 hours of usage. Both spindles have an accumulation of crud from oil build-up at the bottom of the the spindle housing, and one spindles has some coming out from the side nut. Is this normal? If not, since I only have 30 hours on it now, I was thinking of waiting to bring it to the dealer next year at this time for the transmission fluid change. Any suggestions?
Gear Box Screws are Backing Out
So the mounting hex screws for my gear box keep backing out on my Bush Hog ZT25 zero turn.
I've used lock washers (which is factory) and applied loctite. And after an hour and a half of mowing, they backed out again.
You guys have any tips, tricks or ideas on how to keep those damn things from backing out?
Thanks, as always.

Darn Coil again (I think)
Yesterday, I was mowing when I ran out of gas. So I refilled the tank and tried starting it. (Briggs opposed twin 19.5hp) It wouldn't start. So I got the starter fluid out, and that didn't work. So, I pulled the plug, placed it on the edge of the exhaust and noticed it wasn't sparking. So I let it set for an hour or so, and tried it again. If fired right up and did fine until I got to a bumpy part of the yard. I noticed it was trying to quit on me. With every bump, it would stall just a little. Until finally it stopped and wouldn't start again. And like before, no spark.
So, I put on another magneto, and that didn't solve the problem either. I disconnected the kill wire, and still no spark. I've got it on right side up. I've got it gapped just right (new business card).. So, I don't know what the hecks going on.
BTW, I placed the wrench on the magnets, and they seem to be good. My wrench stuck to it as normal...
With the kill switch detached, seems the ONLY thing that it could be would be both magneto's are bad. But considering that they're both new (within a couple of months and only a few hours on the one I removed) I'd say the chances of them being bad are very slim. Is there anything else? Something I'm missing? I've had this problem before, but that was because I'd installed the magneto upside down.

Ryobi cs26 string trimmer
Hi all,
I have a ryobi cs26 string trimmer and it's just over 3 years old. 2 weeks ago I tried starting it and I could not get it to start, it would attempt to start for a second and then died. It had sat for a few months without running, so I figured it might take a little bit of effort to get it started. I made sure to dispose of the old fuel in the gas tank and pour in some fresh fuel. After an hour of trying to get it to start and without success, I decided to run through everything on the motor. I pulled the carb and cleaned it out, put on new fuel lines because they were getting a little stiff, checked the fuel filter in the tank, made sure the air filter screen was clean, checked the spark arrestor, checked the spark plug and verified spark. After all of this, I still wasn't getting it to start, so I pulled the flywheel to make sure the key wasn't sheared to throw off timing..everything looked good. I then decided to put some fuel directly into the spark plug hole to bypass any issues with fuel getting thru the carb...still no start....not even an attempt. At this point I did a compression test and I'm getting 65 psi, I'm going to go ahead and assume that's too low, but I wanted to get some insight as to what is going on here from you guys.
Thanks

5hp quantum not staring
New to the site and have a few question. Bought a MTD 5 hp quantum self propell from someone who needed to some money and didn't even know if there were any issue. Don't really need the mower but wanted to check it out. Tried priming the engine and couldn't get it to crank. Wanted to see if it was firing, removed the spark plug and put some gas in the plug hole. Mower would crank and run until it ran out what was in the head. Pulled the carb and replaced hoses to the primer and cleaned the carb. My question is about the primer, usually the primer is on the carb but this one is under the tank. When pushing the primer, it only pushes air into the carb. Not sure how it suppose to work. Still haven't gotten it to crank, and still need to put a kit in the carb. Can someone explain how the primer work on this motor. Failed to mention it is a Briggs and Stratton 5 hp I/C engine
Thanks

what is belt 754-3029 for?
I own a Cub Cadet 1320 hydro with a 38" deck. The deck belt failed today and I"m looking thru the belts I have on hand and am wondering what 754-3029 is for. (someone hand marked 954-3029 on the package)
From my notes (right or wrong):
954-3036 is for the deck (36"?)
754-3037 is for the hydro drive (unk"?)
954-3038 is for the PTO (38"?)
cubcadet dot com is super slow to look up my own model.
Looking up part numbers doesn't offer much description either.
754-3029 or 954-3029 just says 1/2" spindle belt with no length specified.
Can anyone offer insight as to the prefix number change? is 754 the same as 954?
thanks,

WR Float bowl needed
Hiya,
I picked up an '89 commercial 21" push with a white WR v185 off of CL a while back. Someone way overtightened the floatbowl destroying the sealing surface, now it drips fuel, not much but still too much to run safely. Anyone have one or know where can I find a new one?
Thanks,
Tom

Toro rear drive wheels on a Lawnboy?
While at Home Depot today, I noticed a box of Toro replacement lawnmower wheels with metal gear for like 16.00 bucks. I wonder if they would fit on my Lawnboy 10323? The lawnmower dealer quoted me a price of like 80.00 for them (ouch)!! The ones I have are useable, but the plastic around the gear lugs are cracked and the gear is a tad loose. Even tried super glue.

Engine HONDA GC160 Pressure Washer
Hello all,
My GC160 recently exploded the camshaft. I split the cases to clean out debris and reassembled it with the new parts and fresh adjusted valves... I did not pay any attention to dis-assembly of the governor :)
fyi no throttle lever on this application
Open first operation I thought she was good to go... starts normal and operates normal and sounds normal for about a minute. Then a slow process starts where as I let go of the pressure washer trigger (therefore going into throttle down mode) the idle goes really low (almost stalls) and then as I press the trigger again it idles up not as far and the pressure is lower... eventually the engine cuts off and will not start until it cools down. I will note that it seems a little hard to pull the started rope when it is warmed up... As far as governor adjustment I pull the governor lever back so throttle is 100% open and then rotate governor arm clockwise until it stops. There seems to be very little rotation in the governor shaft compared to open throttle vs closed throttle...
What is perplexing is that it operates normal for 1-2 mins until it heats up!
Thanks in advance for your advice and time!

Mower deck Toro Z480 - When bagging air flow in front right of deck blows leaves out of the way.
Hi folks, first post here.
So its fall here in North Carolina and the leaves are coming down in droves. I have a Toro Timecutter z480 (07 model) with the bagger/vac unit. I have noticed this year (and years past but never really bothered to research it) that as I am mowing there is a torrent of air that is blowing out of the front right side of the deck. When this happens it blows all the leaves out of the way and onto the strip of grass I have already mowed. It's pissing me off.
I am not sure where to start troubleshooting this. Is there a deck adjustment I need to make? I have checked under the deck and there is no clogging, the vac is clear and I even have new blades on there. This is driving me nuts. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

So its fall here in North Carolina and the leaves are coming down in droves. I have a Toro Timecutter z480 (07 model) with the bagger/vac unit. Setting the gap on OHV Troybilt Pony 17.5hp.
I need help with adjusting the valves on my riding mower. I have sought out extensively the gap to set the valves, with varied opinions. I have tried to find TDC of the (I believe horizontal piston) with no clear instruction. The motor stops turning at compression point and I have not succeeded in a remedy. Is there anyone who can help me,I do appreciate your time and help.
Here are my specs:

Lawn Boy Parts
The base shroud for my Silver Series walk behind (10301) snapped off at the mounting bolts so I'm looking for a replacement. The part numbers are 614675 or 93-1216-03 but I haven't been able to find one - not made anymore? Can someone suggest a supplier that might have older parts like these? Mower runs great so hate to give up on it.
Thanks

Kubota Kommander no flat front tires?

honda hru 197 will not fire?
Hi, new to the forum. was hoping someone could assist with a problem with my mower.
I have a honda hru 197 buffalo bull with a GC160 engine. i have replaced the magneto, carburettor, spark plug, oil, etc. I have plenty of spark. Compression is at 60PSI. Don't seem to have a low oil switch on this one.
I am baffled with this one? is compression too low to start this mower?
I refurbish small engines but can't solve this one?

older exmark lazer z
I have a older exmark(I think 94) with a ch22s 66529 kohler. I took a compression test on it this afternoon, the engine was cold and both cylinders were 100 lbs. I don't know what these should have so im hoping someone can enlighten me, it doesn't seem to burn any oil but now that the mowing season is almost over im just checking the general health of the motor and if I need to tear it apart I have the winter to do it. thanks. wnk

Snow blower BX2750B snowblower disassembly...
I have a ten year old BX2750B whose housing is rusting out in numerous places. I need to remove the auger/gear assembly to either try and repair the old housing or replace it. I removed all the bolts from the auger but can't separate the auger drive shaft from the the rest of the housing. I called my dealer and someone said he thought the secondary auger needed to be pulled out with the primary ,so I started removing the reduction box assembly from the back of the housing to pull the entire shaft through towards the front, but I cant get the last flange off the shaft to pull it through. Does anyone have disassembly suggestions for this unit?
carburetor blow back question

When to do first oil change on SS5060 - Now or spring?
I've now got 7.5 hours on my new SS 5060. I'll probably do another two cuts this season and then the machine will sit until spring. I could change the oil now, or I could wait til spring and this oil will have about 9.5 hours on it. Would it be beneficial to wait until spring to put fresh oil in, or let it sit all winter with the new oil in it? The mower will be in my unheated garage (but warmer than outside) for the winter. What do you think? Thanks.
Wheel horse 244-5
I can't turn power on to mower deck. It might be the toggle switch. How do I get to the switch. cable?
new to me Snapper 250816BE
I just bought a rear engine snapper yesterday and got a decent deal since the mower only goes in reverse and not forward.
If I put the mower on its back and put it in any forward gear, and spin both tires in the same direction, the rubber friction disk does not move (good contact with the drive disk) but the metal disks (with the four small bolts and large center bolt) spin.
the previous owner stated that he was trying to make an adjustment to the deck height, and when he was done, he put the mower back on its wheels and it didnt go forward any more.
thats about all I know. I've done a little esearch and dont see these symptoms listed here.
the mower model is in the subject title, and the serial number is 75642190, and instead of the 8hp motor it has a 12 hp B&S motor (replacement?)
is this a simple drive disk adjustment or has there something inside the driven disk (with the rubber friction wheel) gone bad?
Thanks!

Need riding lawn mowe recommendation
I have a new home with newly laid sod. Front and back yards are fairly flat, but side yards are steeply sloped from front yard down to back yard. Looking for recommendation for a riding lawnmower, that mulches the grass and has a drain plug cleaner after finished for garden hose cleaning. Zero turns will not work for me
jd power flow bagger z trak
Thanks in advance for any replies. I purchased a 717 ztrak at the beginning of the year. It came with the power flow bagger system. My father had passed away in feb and have assumed his mowing jobs, as i had helped him since i was 14 (now 34). My wonderful step mom decided to keep all the equipment, so i pretty much had to start from scratch. The one person i could go for help is no longer here, so i am looking for help any where i can get it. My issue is connecting/installing the power flow unit to the deck. I can get it mounted...but cannot get the belt on from the unit to the deck. The tension arm doesnt give enough slack. The damn thing didnt come with the manual for the mcs either...just the mower itself. Any help/hints/tricks would be appreciated.
Scag stuff from Mad Mackie in CT
I had the hankering for a new seat for my Tiger Cub, did some research and found an eBay seller (seatwearhouse) that had tan colored suspension seats for sale of the type that are on new Scag Tiger Cats. I bought one and installed it but needed to raise it up on 1" spacers. Nice seat, should have done this long ago!!! Adjustable suspension, seat back, lumbar and armrests!!! This should smooth some of the bumps that I mow over and ease my lower back discomfort.
While I was installing the new seat, I noticed some hydraulic oil seeping from the connections on the oil return hoses. I carefully tightened the small hoseclamps, they are 1/4", I needed a long and short box wrenches and tightened all of them. This may be an area on Scag machines with separate pumps and wheelmotors that operators should check. Don't overtighten these small hoseclamps as they can break fairly easily.
I gotta hookup and do some leaf cleanup today for several customers. I have already passed the 1,000 bushel mark and there are still lots of leaves on the trees!!!

New Greenworks 80 volt Li-Ion battery garden tools
It appears that Greenworks may be targetting the pro lawn care market here. These tools are not yet available and the pricing will certainly be higher, but the tools and batteries are a cut above the currently available consumer products. The largest battery has a 460 Wh capacity, which is more than three times the capacity of the largest 40 volt G-MAX battery, but it recharges in less time.
80V 460Wh 6.4Ah Fuel Pack - Greenworks
They also offer power backpacks, similar to the Stihl packs, with a capacity up to 1152 Wh, which can be used to power the hand held tools, such as the blower and string trimmer.

Why Sealed Bearings Fail Prematurely
If we look closely at the picture we can we see that the spacer is proud of the outer race seat. The reason we know the spacer is longer than the distance between the lower and upper bearing bosses is because the spacer is resting on the lower bearing inner race that I pressed in until the outer race was stopped by the bearing boss ( seat ). The amount it is proud really doesn't matter unless it protrudes less than about 0.001" but you'll never see that . The one pictured is more near the norm and in fact it protrudes above the bearing boss 0.060" . Could it be shorter by 0.060" ? It could be and that would be just as bad, but you'll never see one shorter.
So what's the problem Senior Citizen ? It must be correct because it's factory.
This is the problem.
When the factory engineer BUBBA made this one he designed it for both bearings to be pressed in ( not true in all instances ). Now the assembly man/woman, we'll call her BUBBA too, presses these bearings in, the first one goes in by ( hopefully ) pressing on the outer race with that BIG OLE Press and boy that puppy is fast. That thing sure socked it toit. Next step is to place the spacer in there followed by the second bearing and press operation.
Now here is where the problem begins. When the inner bearing race just reaches the spacer did BUBBA stop pressing. No he didn't because nothing feels solid at this point and BUBBA engineer said until it feels solid. He continues to press until the outer race reaches its seat and all feels good and firm. By continuing to press he has put an u-due lateral pre-load on both bearings. In the case of the pictured assembly that pre-load could be as much as 0.060" on one bearing or some on it and the remainder on the lower bearing, depending whether the first bearing installed outer race moved. The end result is a shortened bearing life. Ball bearings excel with radial thrust but preform poorly with lateral thrust.
This is all the same whether Bubba did it at the factory or you/we do it at our shop with a big hammer and big socket to drive the bearing in.
So what's the solution.
Some manufacturers have been building so one of the bearings is a push fit. When the press fit bearing is installed first until it seats, the spacer is installed then the second push fit bearing with our fingers / thumbs is installed, that bearing is free floating and that solves the problem of lateral thrust.
When I find this problem, rather than attempting to bore the housing larger by a thousandths or two, modifying the outer race diameter until the push fit requirement is satisfied takes only a few seconds.

UNANSWERED Posts ???
I find it funny that there will be tons of unanswered posts that just sit and nobody responds to for days. So I try to answer one or two a day if I can help the person that is asking for help. Now, the post has sat for days and has sometimes 200 views, sometimes more, sometimes less, but most of the time the unanswered post goes unanswered. I must not understand why people post on a information forum. There are members on this forum that have something to say about everything but seem to miss the unanswered posts. A post will go unanswered for 3 days, so I respond to it and it goes to the top of the (NEW POSTS) list again and then must of the time others read it again and add to it which puts at the top of the (NEW POST) list again, etc, etc. Maybe more members should check out the (UNANSWERED) list and help the folks that are asking for help.

Odd problem with D-400 engine Lawnboy Model 5083
Model5038.jpg
I just rebuilt this Model 5083 Lawnboy with a D-400 series engine. I put new rings in it, among other things. This has a 2-ring piston. I started it and adjusted it and mowed some with it, and after I finished one small yard, I noticed when I switched it off, that it appeared to be dragging (and no brake on this early model). I tried moving the blade and it seemed the piston was "almost" frozen, or locked up, but not quite. The engine was quite hot. Now I used STP as assembly lube when I reassembled the piston into the cylinder. I took out the spark plug and squirted some light oil into the cylinder and worked the piston back and forth using my hand on the mower blade, and got it freed up. Now I was fueling the mower with my standard mix of 8 oz. Lawnboy oil, to 2 galllons non-ethanol gas, with a dollop of Marvel Mystery Oil. It was my understanding that the 2-ring piston Lawnboy used this ratio of oil which is 1:32. This engine has a roller bearing top bearing and a sleeve lower bearing. Anyway, I mixed up a fresh gallon of fuel with double the lawnboy oil 1:16, and continued mowing and it seems to be OK. I find this curious and can't explain it, unless this mower "actually" needs the 1:16 ratio. Any ideas why it almost froze up? In any case I'm continuing with the 1:16 oil ratio for now.

New Briggs design has me stumped
I inherited a 2011 model , Briggs push mower. It's a Platinum series, 191cc motor with 7.25 ft lbs torque. Initially, the mower ran for an hours of so, then died and will not re-start. I've tried new plug and new gas. I can pull the air filter, squirt in some carb spray, and she will fire up, but then die immediately. Anyone know what else I can try? I've started a many of B&S mowers in my day, but this one has a different design so I don't know what I'm doing. Also, this mower is like new and doesn't look to have 10 hours on it.
Trailer advice
Okay, so I'm getting my stuff together. I'm going to purchase a Hustler FasTrak SD 48". It'll do my place and some residential lawns and not be too big but big enough. I'll have a Honda 21" self propelled mower as well. Trimmers can go in my truck. I know I want a 6' wide trailer but unsure of a 10' or 12' length. The shorter the better the maneuverability is but I don't want to short change myself either. My question is, what do you guys or gals use or recommend with my level of equipment? I appreciate and welcome all your comments.
Hello to all
I'm new here and look forward to some good conversation.
I'm retiring soon and moving to Arkansas. At 60 years of age I'm saying goodbye to my 32 year career. Now that the kids are grown me and the wife are free to pursue some new things. The thing I've wanted to do for a very long time was to have my own lawn service. Obviously, I can't do a full blown service with employees cause I'm only going to get older and I really don't want the hassle. However, I do want to do it solo limiting myself to 25 yards a week. I'm slowly building my equipment needs to be ready for spring 2015. I've got a couple of questions that hopefully you'll all share your your opinion. So thanks in advance and it's good to be here.

Honda's HRX: The Best Gets Better
Honda Power Equipment today introduced its new HRX series of premium residential lawnmowers at the 2014 GIE+EXPO trade show. The significantly updated HRXVKA and HRXVYA models offer best-in-class cutting performance, ease of use, durability, control and reliability. All-new for 2014, these HRX models incorporate the Honda Select Drive System, providing control, comfort and convenience to mowing customers. This unique system and innovative design allow the user to rotate the ergonomically located, speed-adjust dial enabling the selection of a desired speed range while also engaging the Select Drive control handle to match the mowing stride. Speed also is adjustable while mowing by engaging the Select Drive control handle or by turning the speed-adjust dial.
In addition to the integration of the Honda Select Drive System, the all-new HRXVKA and HRXVYA models include the Honda 4-in-1 Versamow System with Clip Director, allowing mulching, bagging, leaf shredding or discharging without the need for tools or attachments, along with the proprietary Twin Blade MicroCut System for superior cut quality. The HRXVYA, HRXHYA, and HRXHZA models also incorporate the Roto-Stop Blade Stop System to stop the blade and not the engine, saving time when removing obstacles or emptying the bag. Powered by a lightweight OHC/OHV Honda GCV190 engine, the HRX lawnmower delivers excellent fuel efficiency with optimal power output. The GC190 premium residential engine maintains its reputation as a quiet, easy starting, and durable power source for the mower, even in demanding conditions.
Honda engineers have redesigned these two models of the popular and award-winning HRX lawn mower with the specific intention of creating a more comfortable and convenient mowing experience for our customers, said Alex Torre, Manager, Marketing and Market Research for Honda Power Equipment. The new Select Drive System is a huge step in helping homeowners and landscape professionals get the job done with less effort.

Running and starting problem(s)
I have a Craftsman Mower with a B &S engine Model: 31070 0136-E1 001018ZD. I have recently started to have, what seems to be 2 problems. After running for about an hour and a half the motor cuts out. It seems to be under strain and stops. It cannot be restarted because the starter motor will not turn, though it takes power as shown by the ammeter.
Left to cool over night it has re-started OK. However today, the starter turned the engine but it would not start. I removed and cleaned the plug, checked gap and tested for spark. All fine. Replaced plug, turned over engine and nothing. I removed plug and wanted to test for a spark but the starter motor would not turn as above. The engine can be turned over by hand by directly turning the screen on top of the flywheel. I plan to take the blower housing off tomorrow and look for any grass build up and loose wires. Any other help/advice appreciated. I have looked at the Briggs and Stratton site. I'm just not sure if I have one or multiple problems.
Thanks

LV195XA Piston Ring Job
My Toro 20071 mower locked up this summer and the blade wouldn't rotate. I turned the mower on its side and stepped on the blade, which forced it to move. After that it ran OK. I changed the oil and rebuilt the carb not too long after that and now it runs well. While I was doing that I took the valve cover off and saw that the cylinder was badly scarred. I'm not sure how that happened, since I'm good about changing the oil. I did buy it refurbished - perhaps something happened before I got it.
Anyway, now that the season is over, I am thinking about taking the motor apart, smoothing the cylinder walls and replacing the rings. I know I will need new rings, and a gasket set. Should I expect to replace the piston head as well, or is it likely I can smooth that out with my Dremel? I have another old mower motor I took apart for fun and have buffed out scars from the cylinder wall with the Dremel on that one, so I'm fairly confident I can do it on this one as well. Any other advice, or things I should buy to prepare for this? At worst I figure I can always buy a piston head if I get in there and it's in terrible shape.
Or, should I just leave it the heck alone since it's running well now? I'm just trying to extend the life of the mower, but I've never been one to settle for "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
Full details, the motors is a Tecumseh LV195XA, spec 362089E. The mower is a Toro 20071 made in 2007.
Thanks in advance!

The other wont do a thing, zero, it wont even try to start, not even a puff on starting fluid.
I switched the carbs between the two. The one that was running, runs fine with either carb.
The one that didn't run still does not run. At least I know I have two good carbs.
I clean the spark plug, and the baffle or spark arrestor. It also has 55 on a compression test.
Fresh fuel and new spark plug. Yes the spark plug has a nice blue spark.
Also checked that the prime bulb is pushing fuel. While pushing the primer bulb and holding
one finger in the tank I can feel fuel returning to the tank.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. What can it be. HELP?????

Business apps?
I recently downloaded a free app called "tiny scan." It has been very helpful for quick photos of documents that needed to be scanned and sent in. I'm curious as to what apps you may be using on your iPads and iPhones for your business attires. Thank you in advance. 😀
Briggs 17hp i/c twin
I have an old Simplicity 6118 which I use to plow snow only. Orginal engine broke rod and was junk. Puchase used 17 hp Briggs model 42A707 1653-01. Installed and it started right up but has a knock in the nbr 2 cylinder. The more rpm the louder the knock. Sounded like a rod knocking. Pulled engine out and took the inspection plate off. Nbr 2 rod had some play at the crank. I took the rod end cap off. Bearing looks ok with no scratches. Crank also is scratch free. Parts look almost new. I was trying to figure out what would cause this. Was looking at the rod end cap and trying to figure out if it was installed correctly. When installed the way it was removed there is play but if I turn it 180 degrees and reinstall it the play goes away. Is this possible? How can I tell for sure if the cap is installed correctly.

2 stage mid-grade blower recomendations
We avg 10 feet of snow / year , sometimes as little as 4 feet and up to 15 feet ( both in the last 5 years) 2010-2011 179.4
2011-2012 50.6
Gravel driveway 150 feet long , clear out an area next to it on packed dirt lawn for extra parking . The road I live on is narrow and private so we pay for a pick up truck to plow it and if it is too warm early in the season they can't push the snow back much past the edge of the road or they will get stuck in the lawns , and the soft area at the end of the road where a lot of the snow ends up.
So in addition to just doing my driveway and extra parking area ( 1 1/2 car wide x 60 feet ) keeping the banks from the plow cut back till the ground freezes up each time we get plowed in the early season is something I need to be able to do most years.
The other , and very important , thing is that my wife ( maybe 120# suited up for winter ) also be able to move , turn , this blower when I'm not here to do it .
So I think I'm in the market for :
Something easy to operate , auto turn or similar
The ability to do some heavy work when needed
Ease of both starting and maint.
Longevity of the machine and engine
Unfortunately , the move up to a pro model is way out of the budget of just over 1k and definitely under 2k . No used machines need apply.

Winter storage advice
Draining the gas and dropping a little oil in spark plug to store away my Echo and honda trimmers for the season. Starting to put away a couple older honda push mowers. Just wanted to ask how others prepare mowers for off season storage. How about bigger zero turn mowers? Always looking for ideas to improve equipment performance and longevity.
actually a honda pressure washer i could easily start then suddenly hard to pull rope
i carried the presure washer in the back of my truck out to the fairgrounds . when i pulled the rope to start it the first time i heard some clatter that sounded like something fighting it's way out of the pull rope assembly as the engine started up . i used it till it ran out of gas . when i went to restart either i lifted the whole thing off the ground or the rope pull handle was ripped from my hand smacking me hard enough to leave a bruise the shape of the handle as it recoiled . yes i repeated this several times and several bruises until it started again and i was able to complete the job . i did look around for something that may have actually flown out of the starter assembly in the grass but found nothing nor did it again make the noise of something banging around. i asked my brother to take a look at it . he said it was just fine and i needed to stand on it's frame as i pulled the cord. he started it several times to show me it would start . i might out weigh him but he has a good 1/2 a foot if not 3/4 on me and hands the size of a baseball glove .i had 3 imprints of the pull handle on my chest and never did get it to start again not because it would not but because i could not pull hard enough nor fast enough without it lifting off the ground . i have owned it at least 5 or 6 years and was always able to start it before without issues . any ideas ? oh , i should say the engine sits so the pull start assembly is on the side rather then on top.
Great Dane Super Surfer
I saw a CL ad for a 52" Great Dane stand-on. I don't know anything about these mowers and only one post came up in search... unanswered. Anybody have experience with them?
Some landscaping jobs (kind of)
This past week I had 2 jobs different than I normally do. One was to create a mulchbed (that the customer would spread mulch on later) around a small tree. It was very quick, and I think it turned out well. It was nice doing something different than my normal mowing. Then I went to a job where a customer wanted all of the potted plants dumped out, and everything taken away. I took it to the local farm, and included the $10 dump fee into the price for the job. It was a lot of debris! Here are some pictures, one for each "landscaping" job.

hydraulic oil filters for MX5060
The manual says to change the hydraulic oil and filters at 50 hours, I'm at 49. It specifies the oil, but not the filter. Anyone know what the part number is or a cross reference number for the hydraulic oil filter for the Toro MX5060. Thanks
Repairs Yard-Man Lawn Mower Drive Wheels Lock-up
My 16 year old 21" Self-Propelled Model #12A-979L401 rear drive wheels lock-up when pulled backwards. How can I tell if the transmission releases? I took the belt cover off and replaced the belt, although I didn't see anything wrong with the belt. I know the transmission is sealed but is there away to check the lubrication in it? After 16 years it may need some lube. All suggestions appreciated.
LESCO BACK PACK BLOWER
ok I have rebuilt the carb. It has spark but will not start, not even try to start. How do I check the coil to see if it is making enough spark to fire engine? I have disconnected the ground and it is making spark. All wires seem to be fine. Its sparks when switch is in the on postion and will not make spark with the switch on the off position. I think spark is weak. Freaking coil is 81.00. I need a way to test strength of spark. How do I do this. I have a tester yes its a good one. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carburetor repair
I have a briggs and stratton 3hp engine with a 495942 carburetor. It's been discontinued. Any ideas on a replacement carb?
One of those days
Today went to the shop and brought the Shindaiwa T242 and they were out lucky for me the sell man gave me the T424x with $10 off. Then got a call to bid on a yard. Customer wanted pine straw, grass cut, hedges trimmed and edge up. Gave a price of $120.00 for first clean the $50 every two weeks, he wanted me to do for $75 and for that it's just grass cut and weed eat no edge. After about 10 minute talk got to $100.00 with pine straw, edge and grass cut. Started on the yard with the new Shindaiwa and edge was sooooo easy. Got done head down the road and he calls saying never mind he was going to buy a lawn mower and his self. I told that would be $50 for edging and he said oh go ahead and finish. Some customers are some thing else.
Mowerpartpros.com
If you needs parts, this is the worst company to deal with. Horrible communication once you have paid for your order! Mowerpartpros.com you will wait forever for your parts and they never return your calls or emails. Check with the BBB and you will find numerous complaints. Just plain bad service!

Repairs Featherlight weedeater need carb help
My brother has a weedeater featherlight that has sat for several years. I tore down the carb and cleaned it. The carb is a Zama c1u-w7. I cheaped out and bought just the gasket kit, the carb only has one welch plug and I was hoping not to have to pop it. No such luck, it was gummed up under the plug. I thought I'd be able to just go down to my local shop and pick up a welch plug, natch! I do not want to turn around and order the full kit now (about $15.00) just to get this plug. It's a little thing, my calipers measure the hole at .277 but I suspect it's actually a .275 plug. Does anyone know where I can get one of these? I can get a new carb for about $25.00 so I really don't want to spend $15.00 on a kit. Can anyone help?
Opinion on Gravely ZTHD60 for 9 acres
Hey guys,
I'm new to the site but it looks like there's a good crew of knowledgeable people here and I need some advice. I'm sitting on 8.9 acres of property here in Northeastern Louisiana and need a mower that will handle it. For 4 years, I had been using a Cub Cadet SLT1550 but that machine has almost had it and I've for sure had it with that machine to the point that I just stopped mowing my yard the past 3 months. I'm ready for something bigger and better that will mow in a more reasonable amount of time. I'm eyeballing the Gravely ZTHD60 from a local dealer, but wanted ya'lls recommendation because I want to make sure that the next mower I get will handle my property. Will the Gravely ZTHD60 be capable of mowing on these slopes or is that asking too much of any ztr? Would I be better served by moving up to a commercial class mower for long term durability and speed of mowing? If so what would you recommend? I've tried to attach some images of my property so you guys can see what whichever mower I choose will need to do. Thanks, ya'll!
