Hi.
I have a 4-year-old Toro 22" Recycler (model 20334) self-propelled walk-behind. It's been basically ok. Not great, not bad. It gets the job done withMy repair problem has to do with the handle mechanism. I'm linking to a schematic for reference. I hope that's ok.
When I started mowing this season, I noticed that the torsion spring that pulls the handle back into top position (Part #11) had snapped at the point where it hooks into a hole in the right-side metal tube. I ordered a replacement spring, thinking this would be a quick, easy fix. Not so.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure a way to remove the traction control bar (Part #2) from either the slot on the underside of the handle control (Part #3) or the hole it fits into on the metal tube (The spring fits over the right end of the bar.) It's like everything up in the handle is interconnected and everything blocks everything else from being removed.
Can anyone help me with instructions for replacing this spring? I'm managing ok without it for now, since it only pulls the handle back into not-moving position, which I can do manually. But, of course, the spring also keeps the handle in not-walking position, so it's a bit of a minor safety issue.
Many thanks!
