Replace old CMM1200 24-Volt battery with 12-Volt battery??

Replacement battery information seems to indicate that we buy one 12-Volt battery.
Or do we buy TWO 12-volt batteries and connect them in series for the 24-Volt CMM1200?

Any suggestion for batteries?
