Bolens 2003 riding mower .Won't cut in forward but cuts in reverse How do I correcti

I had a problem with the bolens mower not starting so i replaced the battery and a 20 amp fuse. Now when I run the mower it will no longer cut when I engage the blade going forward the engine shuts down, But when I engage it going in reverse it will cut . It never use to cut when the mower was put in reverse. How do I correct this problem?:frown:
