Long story short, I bought a new house on 1 acre last year. The builders put down 5000 square feet of sod around the perimeter. Pretty normal builders quality, Pretty bumpy and cheap Bermuda
Over last summer. I finished sod in the front and some of the back. 17k square feet to be exact. But the rest of my back yard about 18k square feet was just weeds and dirt,
So I decided to get sod laid this year, I talked to a couple diferent landscapers and settled on one. THe one thing I stressed to this guy was I don't want a bumpy yard,. It doesn't have to be golf course but I want a fairly smooth yard in the back when I mow. He quoted me 2 ways,
1st way was to install about 42 pallets of sod over the existing grass(weeds: cut them down to pretty much nothing and just lay the sod. Installed with sod I was looking at $6000. Very little prep work.
I was on a budget but that didn't really ring my bell laying the new sod over the weeds and no prep.
2nd option was to till, remove all weeds bag and discard , grade soil and level and then lay sod, That quote was 10k but I got him down to 9k for everything.
Well I work retail and had to work the day the sod was to be installed. He tilled up everything the 2 prior days and he kept instisting it would smooth out when everything was baged and hand graded with some rakes,
HE IS A IDIOT...... LOL
Long story short.
He tilled up everything, bagged most of the weeds and trash but then lightly graded with hand rakes and laid the sod.
Worst sod job I have ever seen. Gaps, BUMPS , BUMPS AND MORE BUMPS.
WHat can I do to level this out as much as possible, I rented a 300 lb roller but that did very little. Please don't tell me to call the guy and demand him to take every piece of sod up and prep perfectly smooth and lay new sod, The guy is a moron and I don't every want him on my property again.
Sod is Bermuda tif 419
soil is texas clay crap. That is hard as a rock or like soup when wet.
Just give me some ideas as to level this thing out, It is a big area(18k sf) so I cant just go get some sand or top soil and start raking.
