Yardworks stuck chute control

My snowblower has slowly developped a problem with the chute control. It would get stuck and I would have to play around with the chute control stick to get it unstuck. Problem is that now it is almost completely stuck. I have looked at exploded views, but I don't know where to start. I have never played with this.

Snowblower info:

Company: Yardworks (MTD)

Model: 31AH65KH515

Serial #: 1l309B76208

Craftsman 917256543 steering problems; won't turn to the right

I just bought an older Craftsman lawn tractor (917256543, 15 HP Kohler). When you turn right, the pinion gear "clicks".

Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. The gears themselve (pn 17 and pn 27 in the diagram STEERING ASSEMBLY Diagram & Parts List for Model 917256543 Craftsman-Parts Riding-mower-tractor-Parts | SearsPartsDirect ) look OK, and they work fine turning left, but under pressure turning right, they separate, pop, and com back together.

I'm thinking maybe it's just pn 19, the shaft support ( Lawn tractor shaft support | 160395 | SearsPartsDirect ) that's worn and letting them be pushed out of place.

Just wanted to check and see if anyone else had dealt with this before I order the gears, if all I need is the shaft support. I only paid $350 for the tractor... with a single stage 42" snowblower!... so I don't want to buy another $50 in parts if I don't have to.

Just wanted to know why we don't have the profile picture option here?

It's not a Lawn-Boy, but still thought it was worth a mention. Flymo

I picked this up last week. It was covered in an inch of dirt and fuzz. After I cleaned it up I realized that it doesn't look like it has seen that much grass, if any. I didn't clean any grass off it. The spark plug is the original one, still has the brown overspray on it from Tecumseh painting it. The recoil rope does too.

Flymo: 9630423

S/N: 142731

I installed a new fuel line. I installed a rebuild kit in the carburetor and its runs beautifully. Tecumseh 2-cycle AV600-660-16B. 24:1 gas/oil mix. The deck is 18 inches. It really is in great shape. I had one of these a few years ago. It is kinda neat to mow with once you get the hang of it. I guess these are still available outside of the USA, but this is an older unit from a US distributor in Washington.

As a side note, I got a line on an old commercial LB, bricktop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!next week hopefully

Carb John Deere G110 Kohler CV730s 25hp

Hey guys I am making this too hard than what it is.

I recently did new head gaskets on my Kohler CV730S. I am now putting the carb back on. Does anyone have any pictures of how the springs go back? I have a tech manual but the pictures are poor at best and do not show what I need.

I have them put on how I think but before I go any farther I just want to be sure I did it right.

Thanks for the help!

RPM

Just to get some thoughts on RPM...On the bigger push mowers I usually set at 3,250 as apposed to the norm factory setting of or around 2,900 ... older or small mowers I leave as is unless they are under factory spec... In this steamy jungle grass is rarley 100% dry and some extra RPM helps motor when working IMO... Not an exciting topic I know!

Repairs Snapper RER 1642 Information

Requesting Suggestions: ZTR Mower Purchase

Hello,

Looking to purchase a ZTR riding mower before our mowing season starts in 3-4 months.

- Have about an acre, with a few decorative islands that I have to mow around.

- I need the ability to bag, and I'd like to sharpen the blades myself, so easy access under the deck (without having a jack or jack-stands) is a must.

- Willing to buy new or used

- My lawn is a 3D hybrid, likes to be cut fairly short, so it can't clog up easily with moist turf

- Budget probably under 3K, better if around 2K

Thanks for your suggestions and help!

Toolbox for a lawn mower

I have a long, narrow piece of property, and at the back of it I have a workshop. For various reasons, I can't be too sure my workshop is secure. I tend to keep only the bare minimum stuff there, and I tote the more expensive stuff back and forth when I go out to work on something.

Now I know the most sensible thing to do would be to buy an ATV to go back and forth. But I have a Sears riding mower, so that's what I use :)

I don't want to buy a trailer because to me that's a hassle. It double the length of my mower, and it makes backing up and storage a hassle.

So I'm looking for a toolbox I can attach to the mower. Anybody have any suggestions?

BEG for mower manuals HERE thread!!!

I have noticed many questions on here that can be answered by looking up the service, parts, or operating manuals. Problem is, many are hard to find, out of print, or locked down in a clandestine fort in the vault of the manufacturer. This is frustrating and aggravating. We have more important things to do, like repairing our equipment, mowing the yard, or just moving on to the next project.

I propose we have a thread so all can find links and manuals to expedite repairs to the equipment on their bench. This way when we need to remember where it was on the site, it will be RIGHT HERE!

Many have been a great help in finding these manuals on the internet. So this can work if we share what's available. And if it's not publicly available, ask anyway.

Honda 4x4 ATV with IRS

Hi guys. I realize this really isn't a mower related question but I figured I might get a bit more action here than the Front Porch. Anyway I have a bit of property that's quite wooded and I'm thinking about getting a Honda Rancher. I'm curious if anyone knows whether or not the ones with IRS have a differential that allows both rear wheels to spin independently? I've owned a lot of sport ATV's back in the day and know that the solid rear axle will chew up a lot of sod but the option of IRS is $$ so if the only benefit is smoother ride and better traction I can live without it. While out in the woods doesn't matter much but I'd like to keep the field and around the house decent. Any insights would be appreciated.

Honda Harmony 2013 Tractor Adjustment

Lots of snowblowing this morning after our not so "historical" (as the media sold it) blizzard last evening here in the Northeast. Still, about a foot of snow and higher with the drifts.

I had done my driveway and 2 other neighbors when I saw another struggling to free their car. I guess after too much back and forth... forward and reverse for about 3 hours I kinda lost "reverse". I'm not sure if it was because the bottom of the tractor and it's innards are frozen or if I just need to adjust the belt. I do not have a manual with this tractor. All four (4) forward speeds are working fine and the snowblower belt is fine as well and blowing excellent.

Just a tough time finding reverse. Anyone familiar have any advise of adjustment meant of either clutch or drive belt?

Thanks,

Mike Wex

Engine "F" engine compression and bad running issue

Hello everyone,

What is acceptable compression range for the "F" engine?

Also, after my mower has sat for a month or so, the only I can keep it running is by putting my finger in the carb opening and almost completely blocking the airway, for several minutes, until the engine builds some heat. It starts with 1 or 2 pulls and once it stays running, it's performance is rather weak....

I have taken the carb off and disassembled several times to clean it and it looks fine. I tried different float adjustments and no help.

Could the carb be warped? Since it is plastic, maybe it is shot??

Any help would be appreciated...

Murray transaxle questions..

Hello All,

I need to replace the 6 speed Peerless rear transaxle on my 42" Murray rider, model #42812X8A. The axle has the number 930-011.

I am looking locally but not having much luck. I suspect this axle was used in other brands.

Does anyone know the other brands of riders that this axle was used in?? Instead of just searching for Murrays, I might have better luck finding an axle by searching the other brands.

I have seen a couple on Ebay, but I want to see what I am getting.

Thanks

snow blower dies under load

I have a Craftsman 22 inch snow thrower that has been giving me fits for a few years. I've replaced the carburetor and it will start and run, but as soon as it sees snow it dies. Fuel is clean and fresh. Carb linkages are where the factory put them. I've never messed with the governor.

5 hp Tecumseh, 12 cu inch. Part numbers cross reference to an HSSK50. I'm the original owner, probably 15 years now. The machine is in good mechanical condition otherwise, but rather useless in its current state.

I have the tech manual, and other than carb adjustments, it's telling me to check valve lash? Is that where you guys would go next?

TIA

What should i do with these?

These were just given to me and i'm told both run fine. On the left is a 7260F and on the right a 7265. I can't see any major problems and they appear usable as is. I just don't know whether to keep them, sell them, restore them, or restore and sell them. I'm thinking i might keep one and sell the other but which one? It really all depends on what they would sell for. I have no idea what they're worth. I'm willing to spend a little time and money to make them look nice if it's worth it. So what do you say?

Fuel bypassing the carb when not running

I have a couple of riding mowers with what appears to be a similar problem. One is a Troy Built with a B&S 18.5 hp twin cylinder, the other is a JD STX38 with a 13 hp Kohler Command. Gas appears to be bypassing the carbs when the engine is not running. Both carbs are gravity feed, neither has a fuel pump.

When I got the Troy Built the guy told me that there was a problem with the carb, gas was running into the crankcase when the engine was not running. He had taken it to a reputable shop and he told them to fix it the cheapest way possible. They installed an inline fuel cutoff switch that he had to turn off when the mower wasn't running. I did a complete and thorough carb rebuild to try to fix it. I checked to make sure that the float/needle valve were working properly (dropped the bowl after it was reinstalled). That carb has a fuel cutoff actuator on the bottom of the carb bowl and it appears to be working correctly.

With the Kohler engine, I had to rebuild the engine after a screw came loose from the carb choke plate and passed through the intake and the piston stamped it into the cylinder head. Turned out to be not too serious of a problem, but made one heck of a racket when it happened. I didn't really mess with the carb because it was running fine. Once it was back together I found that when I started the engine after it had been sitting a few days, it would blow fuel out of the exhaust. I have not opened the engine again, I checked the oil and it does not appear that any gas is getting into the crankcase, but it would appear that the gas is flowing through the exhaust valve somehow and pooling in the exhaust/muffler.

Has anyone experienced this type of problem. Stupid question, I know, you guys have seen everything. Can someone tell me what might be going on? I know that's pretty limited information but I'm hoping there might be some kind of common, general problem associated with this that someone can point me toward.

Snapper 21401P saved

Found this on cl a few weeks ago for $45...and 1-1/2 hours away from me so didn't think much about it. Yesterday the price dropped to "make offer" so I offered $20 and he took it. Drive up to get it, a nice drive through farm lands and fields. Really nice older couple, the mower was his fathers who passed away a few years back. It's been sitting since but his father bought it new in 1983. It was worth the drive and I'll be cleaning it up this winter/spring. The tank is totally dry and the engine is locked up so once it's cleaned up I'll dive into that but overall it was well kept.

Pics, parts and info for a D180

Hello All,

I obtained an old lawn tractor that I believe is a 1970's model Wheelhorse. The id plate, what I can read of it, shows a model number of "T 06119" or "1 06119" .... And is a "D180"???

Does this sound like a good model number?? If so, does anyone know where I can get a parts manual and parts? I would like to see some pics of Wheelhorse models so I can see what this should look like. Mine has been repainted yellow and white ( I originally thought I had an International Harvester, same color scheme). The mower deck is long gone, if it is supposed to have one??

Any help would be much appreciated..

John Deere 130

Hi,

A quick flashback: a few days ago I bought a model 130. Little John has been seating in the middle of the farm field for two years farmer says to me. Frozen to the ground. Engine oil as black as a roof tar. But it's all there and very little corrosion on a sheet metal and deck. He couldn't start it up so I bought it cheap. Brought it back home, put it in the garage and thinking "a what a heck, give it another crank" little John fired right up. Big puff of grey smoke came bellowing out so I killed it right-away not wanting to potentially damage anything in the engine. So here it is...my spring project!

I've got a question about transmission. It's Peerless 801-038A 5-speed + reverse and I bet that it never saw a fluid change in the last 25+ years but seem to be working just fine. How would you go about flushing it out and putting new fluid in? Would you split it in half to clean it out or just change fluid as recommended in manuals and forget it?

Like to know what you think of this.

One of the dirty secrets of the soft drink and processed food industries is sodium benzoate. It is a benzene compound that is produced by mixing benzoic acid with sodium hydroxide. It is a common preservative in processed foods and soft drinks. It has been associated with a vast array of health problems, including all of our major epidemics. Sodium benzoate is considerably more toxic than either processed sugar or high fructose corn syrup, yet it gets very little media coverage. It is a bona fide poison. Outside of our foods, benzene is the main ingredient of Liquid Wrench, various paint stripper products, rubber cements, and spot removers, due it its highly destructive and solvent qualities. It was discontinued in rubber manufacture in the U.S. because it caused a large percentage of workers to get leukemia.

Whenever sodium benzoate is exposed to vitamin C, it forms pure benzene. It is astounding that our chemical industry found a method through which they could make vitamin C dangerous. Virtually all soft drinks currently have added synthetic vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, as if that would make the drinks healthy. This leads to the inevitable creation of dangerous benzene. Its inclusion causes a decrease of red blood cells, a severe depression of the immune system which produces generalized allergy symptoms, leukemia, various other blood cancers, and pre-cancerous blood conditions.

Countries throughout Europe have been pressuring the food industry to voluntarily remove sodium benzoate from products, before more aggressive action is taken. Several European media outlets have called for an absolute ban on this toxic preservative due to concerns about children's developmental safety. The U.S. Government and media have remained disturbingly silent. As usual, there have been no studies in the U.S. about the chemical's effects upon children, but it is studied elsewhere. The chemical industry in the United States is well protected, and studying its effects upon children in the United States would be career suicide for any researcher, as has happened with many researchers of fluoride. Meanwhile, thousands of children are dying of leukemia.

Diesel Yanmar Injector Copper Washer Replacement

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me here.

Basically, I recently purchased a Yanmar YM14 tractor mower which I knew had an issue. The engine wouldn't run properly due to a leaking injector which I thought would be a case of removing the old washer and installing a new one, however when I removed the injector I found the copper washer had been drilled into and is very stuck in place. This must have been an attempt to remove the washer.

I have attached a few photos. Does anyone know how I can go about removing this copper washer?

I look forward to a reply.

Kind Regards

The engine ran before I took it apart and I'm sure someone would be interested in taking the time to bring it back to Life or use it for parts on other projects. Includes muffler, blade, and blade adapter. I'm not interested in parting it out. Send me a PM with an offer if you are interested.

I blew out the port holes, put it back on and fuel leaks out of a small hole where the air filter plate bolts on to the carb. there are two holes, one on each side of carb. air intake but fuel only comes out of one. Appreciate any help---Cambre

Toro Grandstand w/ FS541V. Running on one cylinder

Working on a this Toro with a Kawasaki twin. Only runs on the left (standing on machine) cylinder. Right cylinder has 165 psi compression and nice spark. I pulled the valve cover on that cylinder, and the rockers appear to be working.

What am I missing here???

Hard Starting Honda Generator

I have a 1996 Honda EM-2500X generator that has been a bugger to start since new. I only run it occasionally, really haven't had a real need to use it, but want it ready in case of an emergency. Here in northern Minnesota, starting some small engines in colder weather can be a real chore. Today I tried to start the engine and when I didn't start, I took of air filter and squirted some starting fluid. It started but it would only continue to run on full choke. When I had run it for a reasonable length of time and engine was warm, I tried to open the choke to normal operating position. As soon as I started to move the choke lever the engine started to starve for fuel. It will only run on full choke, which isn't recommended. What the heck can be the problem. A plugged jet? I'm not a mechanic and I can only guess.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

shade tree tinkerer

Hi everybody, I'm Walt. I am retired from ATT, and working part time at Home Depot selling garden power equip. I like fixing lawnmowers and weed whackers for friends and neighbors. Not an expert but like to tinker.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Toro Z?

It's giving me issues cranking up, I have to turn it over repeatedly for sometimes a minute at a time before it cranks.

Once it's running it has no problems at all seemingly. I tried new plugs but that didn't solve anything. It gives me this issue whether it's cold or warm. It's a 17hp kawasaki for reference

It had this problem when I bought it, and it had been sitting for a while in a garage. I figured it was something simple like the carbs, but if it was the carb wouldn't it run like crap once it actually got going?

Because once it's running it's smooth, powerful, runs great.

fluid cap

i have a cub cadet lawn tractor series 2135. i need to know the type of fluid in the rear trans axle and when do you know it is full

Do any of you run one of these in your business?

We have used one now for two winters on one of our contract properties and it does an excellent job. The one we run came from a Pawn Shop and looked brand new but is several years old. It has a Tecumseh Motor on it.

So I was workin in my shop the other day...

Had a Stihl 048 Chainsaw on my bench I was working on. Had a bad gas leak.

The wife and I had just come back from Costco (The big warehouse stores where you can buy a 40 pack of toilet paper, half a cow, etc.) and we LOVE the hotdog and drink deal for $1.50. I'd finished my hot dog and took my lemonade out and set it on my bench next to where I was working..

I don't use the straws at the Costco stores because the dispenser for the straws puts out unwrapped straws that everyone puts thier hands and fingers on when getting their straws. Germ factory in a straw container. I'm not a germ-a-phobe by any means but, that is nasty.

Anyway, I've got a large syringe with a piece of gas line on the tip for syphoning out gas from tanks. I'd syphon a syringe full out and squirt it in a plastic container.. Syphon, squirt, syphon squirt..

Took a break for a few seconds to get a sip of lemonade..

Let me be the first to tell ya. Lemonade and 2 stroke gas/oil mix..... Yeah, it's not gonna make it.. Apparently I has squirted a bit of the mixed gas into the lemonade cup..

Wow, what a shock..

What "O' Crap" moments have you had in your shop??

Intek single cylinder 18.5 parts

Mods, I'm new here, and will likely be gone once I've offered up the pieces of my dead 18.5 intek motor. If this is in the wrong spot please feel free to move it. I wasn't sure where to post.

That said, I've got the remains of this Intek motor. Got the mower when the last owner didn't realize you had to check and add oil occasionally and the motor blew. And it blew. Chunks of steel parts left over inside, hole in the block and all. I replaced the motor with a 20HP twin and used all the bits from the donor mower, so I've got all the other goodies from the 18.5 and didn't want to pitch what somebody else might be able to use. Given the shape of the rest of the mower I have no reason to believe there was anything else wrong. Got flywheel, charging stuff, carb, head, shrouding, and just about anything else that wasn't hurt by lack of lubrication.

I didn't know where else to go to offer this stuff, other than Ebay, and like my car-club stuff I'd rather post it up to a dedicated group. I would like to recoup a bit of my money on some of this, but if anybody can use it it'll go real reasonably.

Again Mods, I hope this is ok here. You can check my ebay id (v-brad511) or my standings at "StarQuestClub.com" (vbrad511) if you need to verify me. Can't be too careful these days.

Thanks, Brad

X700 series auto-connect unit....photos and instructions

Last summer, I bought an X734 with a 60" high capacity mower deck. They talked me into the auto-connect, but it was a separate item. None of the manuals cover the auto-connect. The deck manual has one photo/topic (adjusting the auto-connect coupler). I can't believe there isn't a couple of pages with photos on this unit for install, preparing it for disconnect in the fall, so you can hook up the front PTO for the snowblower. Can anyone help.....dealer hasn't helped much....been on several other forums, with a little help, but still can't believe the literature on this isn't out there....I think the mechanic just threw it away, when he installed it. Your help would be greatly appreciated. When spring comes I don't want to drive over my deck and screw this up.

Valve Adjustment..

Hi Folks

Just to ask your thoughts on briggs valve adjustment....I see so many vids today where OHV'S and flat heads are adjusted at TDC and not turned over so the piston is down 1/4" as specified by Briggs....

To add... on a 3.5 classic im working on at the moment the piston will travel slightly above cylinder block so to measure from top of block will give you more than 1/4"... either way the feeler gauge is giving the same reading from valve stem to rod weather I turn down 1/4 or not!... i dunno :)

New Tiger Cat Engines

I am in the market for a new 61" Tiger Cat...the promo engine this year is the B&S...at approximately 1K more is the Kohler and 1.3K over the Kohler is the Kawasaki...

I am looking for advice here...I would like to get the beat deal possible but have heard there are issues with the B&S engines...the dealer tells me that B&S has addressed the issues and that they are a quality engine...any thoughts would really be appreciated...

How to tell "For Sure" what Year Model I have? 2014 or 2015

Yesterday I just bought what I was told was a brand new 2015 Scag Model #SWZT52-18FSE....SERIAL #K4701237........a 52" hydro walk behind.

The problem I have is this morning I look at the mower and I see an engine man. date of 0514 and on the frame there is a sticker.....something about emission standards, it has a Family ID #ESCGPNHEQ001M that has a date of June 2014 on it. The dealer quoted me 2015 prices when I was buying it he said, when we were comparing it to the Wright prices.....and yesterday on delivery he mentioned that this was a brand new 2015 model.

Could a 2015 model have these older parts and dates on it? How can I tell what I have for sure?

Were their physical differences between this model over the two years? or are these dates all I need to determine if this is a 2014 model?

I can't call the Scag company directly.....but I did email them for the differences in the two model years.......but that may take some time to hear back if they do...

I like the mower.....but if I should have gotten a lesser price for buying 2014 model, then I have a problem with this dealer.......need help from people that know for sure!

Please get back asap......as if I need to call him I want to do it asap......

Honda GXV340 ENGINE

Hi all, would anyone know if the valve rocker arms from the GX engines are all the same? I have a broken one from my GXV340, and there appear to plenty available for the 160 and 200 engine, but not the 340. They look identical, but not too sure if it would be ok to use in the 340. Many thanks.

Tecumseh Formula 12.5 203040D

Hi all, new here, have some mechanical exp, but qualifications are in the auto electrical areas. Have the above engine on a westwood 42'' cut machine, and it needs some serious overhauling. It is fairly fumy from the engine breather, and the starter has packed it in. It does run, but lacks power when cutting. I am trying to decide weather to just ditch the Tecumseh and get one of these Chinese made 13HP engines and do a complete engine swap, or purchase the parts for this older Tecumseh. I see by looking over the engine that they were built to go the distance, but as Tecumseh is not all that well known here in Australia, I would be looking at sourcing all the bits, starter, rings, gaskets etc from the States. The 13 HP Chinese engines are just under the $500 AU. Any advice on this decision that I have to make would be good. Many thanks.

gt 245 transmission service

in the manual it says transmission is divided into two internally connected cavities with two different drain plugs, one being for the differential gear side and the other for the hydrostatic side- then it says -do not remove the sealed black cap "c" and to fill only at the reservoir bottle--------is this correct ------ is there internal ports which allow oil to fill both tanks from one fill source-------should I run tractor to get oil hot prior to changing so any debris would flush out when the drain plugs are removed= again ---------------thanks for any help------------------Jimbo

electric clutch failure

Maybe a dumb question, but can an electric clutch fail in the engaged position? Or can a bad battery cause electric clutch to stay engaged regardless?

got another one

[ATTACH=CONFIG]24747picked up a 8238ae that was only used by a little old lady on sundays needs a cleaning and go through but it had the OEM charger for the battery not bad for $20.00 Right now I have 3 of the electric start models and I do remember seeing a post where a different battery other than the OEM ones which cost 50.00 or more I thought the price was like 24.00 and was a gel type battery used for RC cars or airplanes that could be bought at a hobby store.Any further insight would be appreciated. Yes I know why not just pull the rope but some people seem to want everything to work as it was intended or they may have rotater cuff or shoulder issues and cant pull the rope

Is there an adjustment?

Mcculloch 170AWFPX ?

Hi all

Newbie here... just said a quick hello in New members Area...

I recently acquired this machine and if im honest pupil dilation in terms of its appearance was the main factor  Im a small engine mechanic so any engine issues is not a major issue for me as such..This machine has the Rato engine which I have never worked on before but by the sounds of it- its a candidate for fully synthetic....run well, powerful.. 3kw @ 2,900 RPM which Ill increase to 3250rpm when mower is run in...

Early observations/ moans is the dipstick... extensions to the back wheels...these steel brackets seem very weak which cause the back wheels to splay... I guess this helps mobility somewhat but when the box is full of damp ish grass it could be a different story!!

Any thought, tips etc most appreciated ...

New Member / Winter Project

I came upon the forum looking for info on the web.

I have a LT1045 powered by a Kohler SV600 single cylinder, 6 years old.

The engine leaked oil when new and was worked on under warranty.

The two years later I paid for engine repairs, still leaked oil.

Then last fall it quit again, turns over won't start, I suspect no compression.

So I scoured for a good used cub and bought a 1720 for $200 pretty decent.

Right now it is ready to mow, oil changed, new belts, brakes and hydro adjusted.

But it doesn't ride and handle like my newer 1045.

I was going to sell the 1045 just as it sat.

Then today I bought an old craftsman with no mower deck or battery for $50.

What is does have is a strong B&S twin i6HP.

So tomorrow I am going to determine if the shaft diameter and length will work with the PTO on the 1045.

If I think it will, I plan to pull the Kohler and install the B&S twin.

I suspect i am going to have to accommodate the muffler and hood which I am willing to do.

I likely will have to drill new mounting holes for the engine itself, plus other modifications.

The 1045 mows really nice, it maneuvers really nice, The Kohler Courage engine in my opinion is scrap.

To buy a new replacement engine is nuts I got quotes between $700 - 1200, priced Kohler and B&S.

That's how I am spending my winter vacation.

Toro MX 5060 brake module malfunctioning.

Went to crank up my mower after sitting about 2 months in the cold and the battery was dead. Put a charger on the battery and cranked it up to find that the electric brake module will not release the brakes. I manually released the brakes by flipping the rods over on the brake module then i would be riding and all of a sudden the module will fire and lock the brakes while riding. I then cut the engine and the brake module fires for no reason multiple times in a row and will not stop unless i disconnect the battery.

Does this sound like a bad brake module? I bought a new battery also and that did not help anything.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Greetings From The Emerald Isle!

Looking forward to a good browse in the forum.....all types of motors around here, some alive some dead....Work from home as small engine mechanic.

Troy Build Mower mode D609G problem with moving

I have this old mower that is a 2002 (13CD609G063 model) that was running last summer and then stopped moving and rolling backward down hill. I had been having problems putting it in reverse. It wouldn't go all the way and had to rock it or just give it a little gas and it would pop in gear. This had been going on for awhile. As I was mowing up hill I heard a metal sound and then started rolling backwards. I left it and my cousin came over and put the belt back on. He said the belts were worn out. I purchased the original MTD belts but before I got help replacing them I was mowing down hill and all at once I was going without any pedal, it was like the gas pedal spring was not working. I had to slam on the brake to keep from going off a retaining wall. Again it wouldn't move forward or reverse. The belts were still in place. We replaced the belts but they were very loose. We took off a part of the old belt and put on the new so it went on correctly. It mowed but I didn't trust it because of my hills. I felt something must have broken the first time with the metal sound. I had a reputable dealer pick it up and he brought it back and said he had adjusted the gas and brake all the way out and if I had any more problems I needed a new transmission. First time I put it in reverse it went into gear easier than ever but it wouldn't move. I shifted back and forth and rocked it and it moved but was skipping all the way to the shed. Do you think he was correct on the transmission? I am a lady and can't tell you anything technical except I need to trust the mower not to break my neck on these hills. Do you think it is time to replace it? First problem we have had out of it so it has been a good mower.

Buying a new garden tractor advise needed on model

I own a small 3/4 acre but the yard in hilly. About 10 degrees or more on front and back and between 15 and 20 on side. I am looking for a strong transmission (better than a K46) with locking diff for use because I'm always slightly pulling a hill or going down one or riding sideways on one. I have researched and researched until I think I have found a suitable tractor. What do you think of the Husqvarna GT48XLSi model? I am torn about the motor but I have seen a reviewer that says it has a K66 transmission (I would like to make sure about that) which I think makes me happy. I have to stay with the size of the 48 due to my building doors which are 56" wide. I might be able to do a 52 but it would be tight and looking at the 52 they don't have the lock diff. Any thoughts on this mower or suggestions on another? I will have to have it dealer serviced so it needs to be a good dependable mower. I am a widow doing my own mowing and want a stable, easy to use dependable mower.

Thanks

CAN I USE A 42" DECK IN PLACE OF THE CURRENT 46" DECK??

Hello I have a 2004 Murray Select 21 horse 46" 3 blade deck rider. The deck is shot and I was wondering if it would be possible to use a Murray 42" 2 blade deck in its place. I imagine the engineers to keep costs down would make all the mounting points the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Trailer suggestions for high millage

Alright, I put on miles on miles last mowing season! I bought a cheap single axle tilt trailer to use last year. I think I"m on the 3rd set of tires. What I think really does the damage to the tires is when I get about 60mph I can notice the trailer wobbles. What do you guys that put on lots of miles use? I've got a 48" zero turn on it but if for some reason I'm not hauling the mower the trailer will "wobble" even worse.

Briggs Carb on Model 303707 Vangard Vtwin

I have an engine that had a minor fire a few years ago. Now I have put it back in service and all is going well but it is running rough. There is one little nozzle on the carb beside the fuel line nib that looks like it should have a vacuum tube attached to it. I cannot find any spot on the engine however where the other end of the tube should be connected. As this tube must have burned previously I am at a loss. Any suggestions?

Snow blowing and Yellow pages

I was blowing along and then the blower stalled. I check and see that a Yellow page book was stuck in the auger assembly.

These people that distribute the Yellow pages just throw the book on the entrance and leave. They don't think that it just might snow here in Nothern Canada. Anyways I think it took me about 30 minutes in the cold of picking at it with a screw driver, hammer and vise grip.

Courage 22 Flooding/hard Starting

Hello,

I have a Cub Cadet RZT 42" with a Kohler Courage 22. When I try to start it, it turns over fine but won't start. I can try again about 30 minutes later, and it usually starts, but with a strong odor of gasoline. Starts up fine when engine is hot, but if it sits overnight, I have to go through the whole process again. Any ideas would be appreciated. Mower is about two years old.

3hp Briggs will run without air filter but carb covered but wont run with air filter

Hello

I have a 3hp Brigs and Stratton engine on my rotavator/tiller and it has trouble running. It seems like it wants to start but it will not keep a steady tick over as it keeps cutting out after a few seconds. We took the air filter off the carb and I covered the carb with a gloved hand and to my amazement it started and ran quite smoothly. So I left it running to warm the engine whilst my hand was covering the carb after a few minutes I removed my hand and the engine died. I tried to start it again but it would not fire or start with the air filter in place or removed so I put my hand over the carb with the filter top removed and it started fine and ran ok until I removed my hand.

The question is what could be causing this strange problem? We have never encountered this before and although it has always been a problem to start the engine with a little prime with fuel it has normally started then ticked over without any problems.

Thanks in advance.

Garden Groomer Pro, any other options?

I searched for a hedge trimmer that not only cuts bushes and shrubs but collects the clippings as you go. The only thing I have found is this "Garden Groomer Pro" which is a great concept but just seems to gimmicky to me and to a lot of people who own them judging by the reviews. I was just wanting to know if any of you use this machine or know of a similar product that cuts and collects clippings while trimming bushes and hedge? Either or let me know what you think or what you have found.

Replacement engine on a Toro 724 Snowblower. Year old post here discussed the need to clean the carb and adjust a tad richer. Was hunting badly. Disassembly, cleaning, and tiny adjustments did the trick nicely and it performs beyond my expectations, however... under maximum load - deep heavy snow - for about 30 seconds it will sputter and hick-up a bit.

That's the only glitch at all. Starts easily, runs smoothly, works like a champ. Only under maximum load for about 20 feet it starts to sputter a bit. Continuing on it will eventually die.

Indication of lean/rich? Air flow? Air sealing?

Thanks.

Need the whole assembly to attach to the 30" deck of a rear engine rider. Mine is 536.270111, but the same hardware used for many years and models.

Want to buy used, anyone have the chute, hinge, pin, spring, and caps all together?

Thanks!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN PURCHASE A MANUAL FOOR REBUILDING IF NECESSARY. PLEASE FILL FREE TO SHARE ANY OPIONS YOU HAVE . GUESS MAIN THING IS FINDING WHERE TO START. THANKS

Craftsman Smart Rider 917.280010

Greetings and salutations.

A little tirade first? This is the fourth time in the last three years that I've been rebuilding the friction disk / clutch assembly on my 30' Smart Rider. I ran out of clutch disks and plates so I've placed an order thru Craftsman Parts website only to find out that it all been put on back order with AYP till May of 15!!! Everything else on my rider is holding up quite well and works as it should but the clutch!? What a horrible design and quality. Anyway, did any of you on this board ever heard of a retrofit or maybe even a complete swap with some other brand of transmission? Geared if possible, hydro maybe? I'd hate to scrap the whole rider just because of a round piece of aluminum housing that contains a few round plates, spring, bearing and a friction disk is causing all the problems. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Howdy

Hello, my name is Anthony, though I prefer to be called Buzz. New member here though I have read posts here for a long time. I have a Turf Management Assoc. Degree from the college I work at, Illinois Central College. I am B&S Master Service Technician and Basic Stihl Bronze Certified. I work on everything from a Husqvarna Chain Saw to a Toro Reelmaster Fairway mower.

I am not nearly as salty as some of the posters in these forums as I have only been doing this type of work for about 5 years. I also am a Seasonal Teamster at my local Park District and have also worked part time at a municipal golf course. At the college I work with the students during our Small Engine Class and also Mentor students for our collegiate competitive events every March, PLANET Student Career Days. http://ift.tt/1hw2G1L .

Since I work for a state funded school and that state is Illinois, we have many pieces of equipment that most would consider antiques however we use them every season here at our Horticulture facility. If i can be of any help please don't hesitate to contact me and I look forward to posting more in the future.

HS 40 is alive and well. Thanks for the help

I want to thank those who pointed me in directions to look. The spark problem turned out to be the after market coils. The valve problem was my own stupidity. Strokes stink. Old age is worse.

So I wasn't a troll after all.

Here it is, running and painted. I am still having a slight fuel starvation problem when I put a 1500 watt load on it, But I think it might be because the fuel tank only has a dribble in it. The fuel bowl leaks so I don't want too much fuel in it because of the heat in the shop. I still have a bowl coming. I used some Mopar Blue, I had a couple of part cans. I salvaged the original labels and parts of others. I remember painting this thing back in the mid 70's. Engine production is 6/70 and the Genset is 8/70

This thing weighs a ton! So I am making a cart for it. Gotta be heavy to make good power. The windings in this thing are enormous! I don't remember it being this heavy, but I was in my 30's back then.

2 pulls, verrrrrooom

Lawn Mower Engine Repair Guide

I was searching around the internet for how to's on fixing lawn mower engines. Specifically a old Briggs V Twin engine. I came across this guide for $20 called Lawn Mower Made Simple - Small Engine Repair Guide and EBook. I have read a lot of good reviews on this. Has anyone used this personally? Or maybe you can recommend a book for me? I am trying to learn all the basic repairs for my lawn mower. Thanks

JD Powerflow complete system

Not sure if I can post this in here or not. I just figured someone would have a better chance of seeing in in here versus the classifieds since there is more traffic here. If it needs to be deleted out of here, that's ok. Comes with all parts and hardware. For ZTR. Was mounted on 48in deck. Rarely used, just been sitting in garage. Runs and works fine. Asking 450.00 obo
