Some people...

Some people just don't know how to mow a lawn! I am at an appartment building mowing a lawn. I am starting with the trimming. I soon see a truck pull up and just parks in the middle of the street blocking the entrance of where my truck was parked. Luckilly it was a cul-de-sac, so it was a little safer for him. On his trailer, there was a scellant company name on it that he did not remove from the previous owner. Just that, made me wonder. A girl, who was a probably his daughter and the man dropped the gate of the trailer and she pulls out two dirty and worn out Toro mowers for residential use. Mean while I was getting ready to mow with the YBravo. She was mowing and I could barely hear the mower. The mower was basically ideling. He was trimming all over the place and did not do the back. He then pulls out an old blower and blows all the grass around for a few seconds and leaves real fast. I looked at the end result and it looked like crap. Missed spots all over the place and trimming was horrible. I gets me mad that people pay companies to mow a lawn and that company does a real bad job. I was just glad to have my clean truck and equipment. Makes me proud.

Kohler CH25S running rough and rich

I have a kohler CH25S in a snapper mower and it's running rough at idle. When you try to idle the engine up its acting like its flooding out. I pulled the spark plugs out and they are just black. I took the carb apart and didn't see anything unusual except that the slow speed jet was just sitting inside the hole. Is the slow speed jet suppose to be threaded in or just sitting in there?

Kubota TG1860G Shuts down after warm up

Kubota TG1860G Shuts off after running about 4 or 5 minutes. Let it sit for a couple minutes and fires back up till it shuts down after another 4 or 5 minutes. When it acts up you can keep it running with carb cleaner so I am sure its a fuel issue.

Tank, lines and filter are good. I even ran it with fuel cap off in case it wasn't venting properly.

I have 12 volts to the fuel shut off solenoid and even ran a separate 12 wire to it when it acts up and doesn't make a difference.

Not sure the best way to check the fuel pump but one would think it works or it don't and not intermittently. Any ideas or bulletins?

10201 , #39089612 cycle, hard to start hot, then runs rough

Hi all,

My problem, 10201 , #3908961 2 cycle, It is hard to start hot if it has been sitting more than 5 minutes. If I can get it going it runs rough from 1 to 3 minutes before it settles down. Been thru the carb numerous times, carb if tight and gaskets good. Just pulled off fly wheel to check seal. Sprayed top of it full of wd 40 two hours ago, and its still all there. I haven't checked the bottom seal. Where should I be looking, if not at seals?

I don't have to shut it down while mowing the yard, but it's just bothering the heck out of me, cause it isn't right.

Thanks,

Jim

hard start back fires, kohler courage

Todays project is a kohler courage 20 twin cam model sv600. I have checked spark plug and battery. I looked at the fly wheel key it loo ked ok tome. I did not pull it out though. When trying to start the fly wheel will turn once then seems to have a hard time to turn again. When it turns the mowerwill try to start but only backfires sounds like from the carb. 2 days ago it was running fine then just died when trying to restart it backfired hard. The spark plug did have black chalk look to it. Any ideas?

G2000 valves

Hi All,

I have a G2000 that has some oil dripping on manifold, I pulled the valve cover (see pics), and wanted to check the gasket, found a couple breaks in a soft gasket except for about 3" or 4" that was stuck in place and hard. It was located where the red arrows are pointed on the A side. question, does anyone know if the burned area due to the gasket leaking or valve(s)?

Thanks in advance.

Honda mower rear wheels locked up

I have a Honda 21" self propelled walk behind mower, Model # HRR 2168 VKA. Serial # MZCG8420252. I have owned this mower from new for less than 2 years.

I recently experienced the rear wheels locking up when trying to pull it back manually a little. I know to coast the mower forward for a small distance, and always have with self propelled mowers. I took the rear wheels off Saturday, disassembled the cam gears, thoroughly cleaned and greased everything, and reassembled. I mowed with after that and thought that had done the trick, only to find all of that didn't really do anything to improve the problem. I read many comments on the issues others have had with the "Smart Drive" system. I guess I will take it to an authorized repair shop since I think it's still under warranty. The belt is ok and the cable seems to be correctly adjusted, so not sure just what could be wrong. I should have never sold my Lawn Boy 19" mower.

Any suggestions? I thought a Honda would last forever, guess that's wrong nowadays.

Snapper ST1842 Deck Height Adjustment Problem

I just bought a Snapper ST1842 from Wal-Mart and proceeded to cut my lawn discovering that with the deck height set at 6 (highest level), it scalped my yard. I went ahead and measured the deck height and found that at level 6 it was 2 3/4 inches off the floor. I couldn't even lower the deck to level 1 because it bottoms out at level 2. I checked the specs online and the deck should adjust between 1 and 4 inches. Does anybody know whether there is a way I can adjust the mower height? Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. Thanks, John

Walk behind Snapper Mod. WP21657517BV Clutch cable connection.

This is my first post and I sure don't want to sound too too dumb. The spring on the clutch cable broke on the end that attaches to the clutch mechanism. I have replaced the spring before but the break was on the cable end and no problem. Now don't laugh but I am unable to locate where the spring hooks to:confused: It must be right in front of me.

Blades How do you check the balance on a blade with a 5 star center hole?

Please forgive me If I'm posting in the wrong place or asking a question that was already asked. I'm new to this site.

Mower deck Wash-0ut nipple

I am about to buy a Honda with a plastic deck. Toro and Husquvarna allow their customers to wash the underside of the deck by attaching a hose to a nipple and running the engine. Can I install such a nipple without causing damage? (Years ago, I hosed the deck of my John Deere against the salesman's advice, and had to replace the clutch within three weeks of purchase.)

Kaw Power Up

After much searching here on the site for quite some time, I've not comg across an answer to my specific inquiry, so I thought I'd post it directly. As a moderator on another forum, I do try to make sure I "search" for answers before asking a question that has been asked 1000x before, but I cannot locate any direct info on my question, so here goes ...

I have a Tiger Cub (shown in sig line) that I'm happy with; it's been reliable and done a great job. However, I'd like a bit more power from it. There are times when it loads up a bit in heavy grass, and could use a touch more "oomph". It has the Kaw FH601V engine. After looking over countless parts manuals and shop manuals, I've come to the conclusion that I'm unable to tell how they differentiate the HP models in how they achieve that power differential. As I recall that TC chassis and series of engine was available in 19hp, 21hp, 23hp, 25hp, all from the same identical long-block per the shop manual. When visiting the Kawpower site, I can see there are slight variations in carbs from revision to revision, but I cannot tell if these are the SOLE means of upping the power or not. And since there are so many variations, I'm not sure which one I'd need to select.

In fact, according to the manual, page 3-14 for the fuel system, here is the info I see:

FH601V, FH641V, FH661V, FH680V, FH721V

Carburetor Specifications:

Nikki 621266

Throttle Bore Diameter 26 mm (1.02 in.)

Venturi Diameter 21mm (.83 in.)

Main Jet (MJ) L: #122, R: #128

Pilot jet (PJ) L: #46, R: #44

Main air jet (MAJ) 1.7

Pilot air jet (PAJ) 1.1,

etc, etc ...

The above info shows me that even the carbs are the same for all those five engines.

Is there a throttle restriction plate behind the carb that is different?

Is there a different setting in the max throttle travel when the govenor opens up, allowing more WOT flow?

In short, just what makes a 25hp engine out of a 19hp engine, when it appears that the entire long block and carb are essentially the same?????

Does anyone have direct, specific info as to how I can "up-power" my Kaw? Got a site link with specific parts numbers or tuning procedures, etc? Perhaps an older script on sandstone that was done back in the good ol' days? It would be presumably far cheaper for me to simiply upgrade the induction system than to "repower" the chassis with a new engine.

Toro 20622 3spd transmission question

Hi,

I have a 20622 that won't roll in neutral. I pulled the transmission and opened it up to see if there was any unusual wear. Everything looks to be working properly with no visable wear. I can switch through all 3 speeds and see that they are working properly with the case open. My problem is when I put the other half on and start to tighten the bolts. The case sits flush and the axle will spin freely without being bolted down but as soon as I put in a couple bolts it seizes and won't spin. I'm almost certain I have everything aligned properly inside, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where to get Craftsmans mower belts.

A friend is dropping off craftsman walk behind that has a broken drive belt. Would like to get it fixed right away so hoping to get a belt locally. Anyone have any success at NAPA or any other local walkin store. Thanks.

Search Feature and Edit time on posts needs corrected and are really annoying.

Can we get these two issues fixed please, I know there are several issues with this forum software, but these two are really annoying and need to be fixed ASAP.

Anyway search does not work, you type in a word and yes longer than 3 characters it will not bring up the post, topic, or nothing, just a white page wanting you to select areas not even relevant to the forum.

Oh and google custom search is not a search feature for forum software, you need either traditional "myphp", sphinx, etc.

Edit restriction on a post the timing is insane, how is someone to do a thorough review and have the apprioate time to look over his work they posted and finding any errors and correcting them?

Look at the problem the member had with limiting a post to 1000 characters which yes it is fixed now, but maybe there would be more reviews and better reviews if everyone was not rushed into typing and trying to get the data in before the edit restrictions engaged.

Repairs Hydro Gear pump BDP-10A 414

Pump was leaking. Took apart and found small pieces of metal. Looks like 4-5 sets of 1/8" flat discs and 1/4" oblong parts. looked in the pump but didn't see where they could come from. Thinking they came from drive gear. The mower seemed to run fine. ANY THOUGHTS ON WHERE THESE PARTS CAME FROM???

Hood "Barriers"

I have a new JD D125 and it seems that the hood on my D125 is rubbing on the sides. They sell the "Barriers" for the top part of the hood (part number GX24020) and was wondering if anyone has installed these on the sides of the hood? I was also wondering if anyone knew where I could get a free download for the part manual for my D125? Thanks

721D throttle/shut off leak

Any of you guys have this leak before?

I'm assuming its an O-ring but haven't gone into it yet. I read somewhere that the aluminum housing wares over time causing this leak.

So there may be a little more than meets the eye. Not ready to tare into it till I know more.

Was going to order a shop manual on the motor for this till I found out the injector pump is not in it, & I do understand the super clean environment of an injector pump repair.

Right now it's running fine, just a dust & dirt collector at the moment, but figure that want last forever.

Any of you guys have a explosive view of this, or experience with this repair?

Freedom (42) Ain't Worth Nothin, but....

Did some mowing with the one blade. Wottheheck.

OK. I'm looking into whether a different deck might fit on this LT166. I see somewhere in a Googled other forum, the remark that the Freedom 42 is suitable for max 1.5 a., flat. We're mowing twice that, not flat.

Got a list of compatibles?

Actually, somebody within 50 miles is selling an unspecified one for $75 and I may just haul the JD over there and see if it mounts.

MEANWHILE....

Got a(nother?) problem, which is that the PTO belt I just put on has worn almost all the way away.

I also note that the plastic vanes atop the (?) pulley assembly in the rear are broken down to nubs. 'Course, what they'd be getting grazed by would, I think, be the main power belt, not the PTO.

Thoughts?

Other than, "landfill transfer station?"

Tank

I just purchased a 2007 Cub Cadet Tank in very good condition. Only non-ethanol fuel has been used in it. Where can I find non-ethanol fuel in Alabama.

Murray Wiring Issue

I recently was given a Murray 425613x8A. It is a nice looking mower but someone apparently replaced the starter switch and rather than rewiring it correctly they just cut and spliced wires until it ran. Well I was going to rewire it and when I looked at the wire diagram the switch is different than what is says it should be. The diagram, Murray 425613x8A Parts List and Diagram - (2002) : eReplacementParts.com, the switch has tabs 1,2,2,1 with one off to the side. The one that is installed is a 1,2,3 with one off to the side. The wire colors on the harness don't match the colors that should go to the correct tabs. I looked up other wiring diagrams and found this one, Ignition Switch Replaces Murray 92556 | Lawn Mower Parts | MFG Supply. my only question is that mine has an extra yellow and and extra black wire. Where do they go? If anyone could provide a better diagram it would be greatly appreciated. I would much rather fix what I have than have to drop $100 to get a new switch and matching harness. Thanks.

A unique situation

I need some advice. I am in the market for a new riding mower.

I have a little over 2 acres with some pretty good slopes.

Here is the twist? I can't use my feet for pedals due to several operations.

My biggest concern are the slopes. The best I can tell it would be safe to say it is about 17-20 degree slope.

I can spend about $4k.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Weed eater WE261 riding mower

I was recently using my mower to cut my yard. Then all of a sudden the back wheels stopped moving in either direction. So I pulled the mower backwards by hand. The the wheels started moving again, so I decided to start back mowing. Then the back wheels did the same thing again. So I pulled it backwards again by hand & the wheels started moving again. So I got back on the mower and started off by going in reverse. The mower was moving about as slow as a snail. Then when I was going forward in 1st gear the mower started shaking very badly. Before I got it inside my shed I noticed a bracket on the left side of the mower was bent. The bracket has a bearing inside & it sits on the shaft. I took the bracket off to look at it much closer & I noticed the shaft was sitting on the bottom of the hole. When I pressed the clutch/break pedal the shaft would move up & down. So when I released the clutch/break pedal the shaft falls down to the bottom of the hole where the shaft rest. I moved the wheels by hand while I had it jacked up & heard a clicking sound. Can you please help me with this issue?

Newbie echo user

I own an Echo SRM -210SB. Had issues today. Stop operating, couldn't finish the yard work.

I installed a new fuel & tune-up kit from Home Depot, put new gas in it. It runs without any attachment installed with no issues, but soon as I install a trimmer or edger attachment, it stops running. WEIRD!

Have any of you run into this type of issue with a Split-Boom piece of equipment, had the machine for about 10 years. Never had a tune-up until today.

Running out of ideals, tomorrow thinking dropping it off at the repair shop. Hate to do that!

Thanks,

John

Weak wheel power on one side

Hi all. I have had a look through all the threads and couldn't find an answer to this.

I have a Ferris is1550z. The LH wheel power is less than the RH side both forward and reverse. Up hill is quite slow.

The pump arm/linkage movement is the same for both pumps. Forward speed is slower than I'd expect as I have to hold the left lever in the most forward position but the RH lever needs to be just half that of the LH side. As I say, both of the hydro controls do move the same amount.

The engine and grass cutting operation is fine.

I just brought the machine so do not know how long it has been like this.

Any ideas.? thanks.

Mower Model 91727011 No start, Turn Key Does Nothing

Earlier this year I was given a Craftsman 15.5 HP riding mower model 917271011. It was not running when I got it and I have no idea whats wrong with it. When I try and start it I get nothing other then some solenoid or relay clicks. It came with a new starter relay I believe ( the thing on the right side that connects directly to the battery then to the starter) that I replaced and it did nothing.

I can jump aforementioned relay with 2 screwdrivers and the engine will crank but will not start. It does have spark but I don't think its getting fuel. I think I read somewhere that the deal on the bottom of the carb. can fail and not let it get fuel?

I dunno. I'd like to get this thing going but don't want to throw a whole lot of money at it.

Anyone have experience with this model?

Hello I'm Smileyblue

I own a Gravely zt2044. I am not mechanically incline but can do some basic things. Found this forum while searching for solutions to a problem I am having with my mower. So, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can and see what other people are dealing with and how they fix things.

Ariens 1028 ignition key stopped starting mower

I bought a used 1028 the key worked to start the mower several times the stopped completely. Any ideas what may be the cause of the problem???

11a 414a065 briggs and stratton lawn mower won't start

I can't seem to get it to start , it will sit there and turn one or maybe two times. About a month ago it was running fine then it started smoking out of the muffler. So I drained the gas and cleaned the carberatour and placed it together again. It was hard to start but I got it running again. After 30 minutes it started smoking again... pretty sure it was a white smoke but can't be 100%. I've then have tried cleaning the carburetor again and cleaning out the gas tank since it looked like something was in it. Still nothing.

I've tried leaving the air filter off and a placed a little gas in the carberator but I couldn't get that to start either. I did verify the spark plug was sparking and I'll include a video of that. I'm also including images of the mower if that helps.

Drive Belt Question

I replaced my drive belt this spring and now it seems like the tractor does not have enough power to drive up my steep driveway. Would go up it last year, but is very slow to drive up it now. It seems like I can start up with the shift lever in 6, and it will slow to a stop. Then if I move the lever down towards 3 it will very slowly crawl up the hill.

The only other thing I did was change to a new carb. I have two and keep one cleaned so I can change it out very couple years to clean the one that is on it

Would a new drive belt cause the tractor to not climb a hill?

Need help replacing handle on HRX217HXA

ordered new handle for my HRX. The studs had broken off on bottom end. I tried to swap the controls over without disassembling but the control piece fell apart on me. Now I have to figure out how it all goes back together and will need schematics to figure it out - or detailed pictures like I should have taken in the first place. But even that may not be enough to show the spacers and all.

I just got it running perfect with all your help here - new carb and all carb gaskets. Now I'm stuck with the handle repair.

Yard machines tiller wont start

Hi,

Cant get my yard machine started this year.

I have cleaned everything (twice).

It will start if i use starter fluid or if I take the air filter off and partially cover the inlet, ie so I can feel the pressure but let some air in.

Does this mean my carb is still not clean enough?

Thanks

Chainsaw problem

I've had a Stihl MS 310 chainsaw for 6 or 7 years and it has always been fairly easy to start. However, I've had a problem starting it on a few occasions over the past year. Normally, I start it in the full choke position and it'll fire on about the 3rd pull. I can then move the control to high throttle position and re-pull and it will run - and, then move it to normal run position. Usually, the cylinder compression is so high, it's difficult to pull. The times that it won't start, the compression is apparently low because the crank cable pulls easily; almost like ther's an air leak somewhere. I've replaced the plug and air filter to no avail. But, the compression loss has me baffled. On the last start failure, I simply let it sit on a shelf for 3 weeks and then tried it again - it was back to it's old self and started up normally. Has anyone experienced this type of chainsaw problem and might you have any insight on what's causing the change in compression ?

Kohler Courage XT-6 carb question

My XT6 is about 3.5 years old and has never given me any trouble until recently. I change the oil, plug, air filter, and drain the fuel each year. I also use Shell V Power with a little Seafoam in the gas.

Lately is has been acting like it was going to die even if its not mowing through high grass, or just running. Seems to idle down real low then kick back up and backfire a bit. Ive cleaned the carb and fuel tank which I found no trash. Funny thing is it doesn't always do it.

I've read that it could be the carb or Auto Choke, so I wondering which I should replace.

Can't wait to get it fixed since its adding extra time to mow our 1/4 acre.

Repairs Need Help! 10515 Quit!

Hello all,

I inherited a poorly maintained 1995 LawnBoy 10515 Gold Series from a family friend. To be honest, I know absolutely nothing about lawnmowers and have done a poor job with maintenance as well. Even with this lack of care, the 10515 has given me about 3 good years since we received it.

This Spring, it wouldn't start. With a new spark plug, fresh gas, and a new air filter, it came on in a jiffy. It's done great this season . . . up until last week. I can't get anything out of it. Not even a hint of it sparking when the cord is pulled.

As I said, I know nothing about mowers, but am a little stubborn about letting go of it because I know it's a great mower. I'm hesitant to take it in because I can get a used LawnBoy from Craig's List for the cost of what I'm assuming I'd be charged if it were serviced. So, now I've been watching video after video about what could be going wrong.

Yesterday, I took apart the carburetor and cleaned it. According the videos I watched, I looked to be in great shape based on what they said.

Does anyone have any ideas/pointers? I feel like I've tried surface level things. I'm willing to try anything if anyone has any suggestions. Again, if, based on what I've said, you think I should just move on, I can do that too.

Thanks!

Jessica

My 675 series would not start. I checked to make sure there was not a problem with carburetor. I changed out the flywheel key. Wow it starts and runs. But when I stop motor to dump bag, it doesn't want to start. What could possible be causing this?

John DeereZ960R with MOD Deck

Well since I have now mowed four times with the Z960R I feel I know it good enough to write up a little review and comparison on its performance.

This comparison is between a 2010 / Z930A and 2014 / Z960R.

2010 / Z930A

29HP Kawasaki Engine

60 7 Iron Deck

2014 / Z960R

31HP Kawasaki Engine

60 Mulch on Demand 溺OD 7 Iron Deck

I wrote this last Sunday, but things have changed since now and then so I now have time to post everything.

Engine:

The Z960R came with a 31HP Kawasaki engine and I never dreamed that 2HP would have made that much of a difference, but the power and torque from the 31HP engine feels like I am running a much larger engine. The Z960R engine will plow through 2 week un-mowed grass with ease and the engine still does not bog down like most others I have seen do.

The one thing with this engine I need more practice with is mowing my pond dam, my old machine I would just creep up the dam no issues, but the new 31HP engine while mowing slow like I have been for the past 4 years will raise the front end up in a minute with minimum forward pressure on the control arms, so if anyone else upgrades to the new model just be prepared for the additional power and torque of these mowers.

MOD Deck:

My thoughts on the JD MOD 7 Iron Deck, this deck is a very clean cutting deck and yes it works exactly as advertised you push the handle forward for MOD and that is exactly what you are getting this mower mows, mulches, and discharges the clippings back into the lawn with very few clippings exiting the discharge chute so yes it works when mowing around your home, buildings, landscaping, etc.

Now the MOD deck does not stripe as good and prominent as the 7 Iron deck, I spent several hours comparing different set-ups with the MOD deck and I was unable to get it looking like my old Z930.

The first three mows I performed with the MOD deck had the blades that came from factory TCU15881 which are High Lift blades and commonly used on 7 Iron and 7 Iron Pro decks.

Now the parts replacement list calls out different blades these designated MOD blades TCU18990 were installed and mowed with around the home, building, driveways, etc using the MOD feature with the different blades this machine still mows like a dream and works exactly as advertised.

If I was commercial business and mowing multiple yards say 2 acres or less this is the ultimate set-up to use especially around sensitive areas where you do not want grass clippings to be, I know I would at least have 1 if not multiple MOD decks in my fleet.

Now the Con to the MOD Deck:

We have a portion of our front lawn located between trees immediately in our yard in front of the house and Cleveland Pear trees which are located about 30 feet back from the road, this lot is 2.5 acres and then we have another lot behind our pond which is 1.5 acres where I have no obstacles or nothing stopping me from letting the machine eat while mowing these two areas.

I cannot mow with my machine at half throttle or wide open due to stragglers of grass and some uncut grass left in the lots, if I mow slowly I have no issues with uncut grass and have a beautiful cut 杜inus the prominent striping?

I have studied the deck thoroughly underneath it and determined the baffles for the MOD chambers are too close to the blades, thus not allowing proper air flow and vacuum for the deck to lift and cut all grass and causing this issue.

Also the MOD doors that close to create the mulching chambers are manufactured with additional angle iron under the deck, this angle iron even though it is far enough from the blade tips will also have a slap effect knocking grass and where they are lower than the edge of the deck I also think this contributes to the issues I am having mowing at faster speeds.

Where I cannot mow at half or full throttle without any uncut grass like I could with my old 7 Iron Pro deck in these two fields I have filed a complaint with JD and given them two options to repair this issue.

Suspension Seat:

The new suspension seat on the Z960R, yes I can tell a world of difference with the ride, softness of the ride, and no hard bounce to it. The ride I experienced with the Z930 had the deluxe seat with the JD suspension kit added later after my injury and I was never able to dial in it to get a ride even close to what I have now.

The new seat on the Z960R you just dial in your weight and enjoy the ride, the back of the seat reclines to allow customizing of the rear seat angle and do not forget the lumbar adjustment to support your spine.

Changes made to the machine:

I did change out the front tires to pneumatic tires which I purchased from Green Farm Parts.

The tires I am very happy with the purchase, I have them inflated to 18 psi and they have eliminated the majority of the bounce from the front end which is very common while running the run-flat tires. When adding the pneumatic tires I had to check the pitch of the deck, my dealer sets all Ztrak decks to ï½¼ deck pitch so I set it back like it was.

Also added the light kit with a rear LED light so if I do get to mow at night I will have no issues mowing.

Overall Performance of the Machine:

I am very impressed with this mower, power, torque, and a few places I would actually slide a tad and have to use more compensation to help eliminate the slide is not there anymore, it seems as this machine has a lower point of gravity which stabilizes and handles better.

Controls are more sensitive especially with the travel so I am assuming the cross porting for the cooler hydraulic fluid is working keeping the trannies color and more responsive.

Update on Mower:

Z960R is in the shop, dealer worked this past week on the MOD deck trying to get it to cut properly and it failed.

Dealer tried multiple deck settings and blades to get the MOD deck to cut properly at higher speeds and all his attempts as well as mine have failed.

So my dealer has ordered me a Brand New Z960R with the 7 Iron Pro deck to replace my new machine with the MOD deck.

Now because the MOD deck mowing around sensitive areas did work so well, I have ordered the powerchute for my new incoming machine so I can still mow around sensitive areas with not blowing the full discharge clippings into those areas.

The ETA on my new machine is on or before July 16th delivered to me, plus the additional stuff I have placed on my machine will be transferred over to the new machine before delivery.

Oh and an additional note, I am without a mower awaiting my new one to arrive, my dealer has given back to me my Z930A I traded in to mow with until my new machine arrives, I know a lot of folks does not care for green but with dealers like this it is hard to stay away.

Hustler Fastrak Super Duty 54" (2014)

Hi All,

I'm looking at buying a 2014 Hustler Fastrak SD in the next few days. Couple of questions for someone/anyone that may have some knowledge concerning this machine.

1 - Is $6,899.00 a fair price for this model? Again it's a Fastrak SD with a 54" deck. Everything else is basically stock.

2 - Is the Kawasaki FX730 @ 23.5HP big enough to really put out the results in this High end residential to entry level commercial machine?

Acreage mowed = 4

Thanks in advance,

T

John Deere Z960A Vacuum Fuel Pump

How much fuel should be coming out of the line when you disconnect the line from the carburetor and turn the motor over? The fuel does not gush out only trickles.

Old old craftsman that brake/clutch does not engage properly

I have a Craftsman LT1036 that up until now runs good. Yesterday after my son was mowing with it for about an hour, the clutch/brake pedal does not engage so that when you put it in gear, the mower does not move. If you take your foot and pull the pedal towards you then it moves. So it still runs and mows if you want to pull the pedal back with your foot while mowing!! Any suggestions to fix this?

Hello from Louisiana

Ran across this forum while searching for mower blade info online. Current equipment is a 5 year old Cub Cadet RZT 50 and a 2 week old Scag Tiger Cat 52. Also have a John Deere 400 rider with no mower deck since it self destructed about 5 years ago. New engine in the JD 400 just in time for it to quit mowing.

Ford LS 45 Cylinder fires off and on

Good Morning

I am helping a neighbor with his LS45 . It has a Kohler in it When we start it up you can hear the right side cylinder drop out when we increase the throttle. After it reaches rpm you can still hear it drop out and then come back on. Plug looks good. Before I start pulling things apart are there any of you that have experienced this ?

Thank You for any help you can share.

1500ZX

Am looking at a used mower Ferris IS1500ZX. The hour meter says 19.5 hours. $5000 with a used landscape trailer. I cannot find this model on Ferris web site. Does anyone know when it was discontinued? How reliable is the hour meter?

Opinions of this mower please.

Replace with metal intake instead of OEM plastic on 22 hp Briggs Endurance V twin?

My Husqvarna 22 hp Endurance Briggs with only 30 hours had the plastic intake manifold warp were the carb meets the intake.I applied a lot of gasket maker and that sealed it for now. I read other posts on the web and I guess this is a common issue. Briggs says it's because of over torqueing the mounting bolts but I can't see that. I bought it brand new and never had it serviced other then oil changes, etc. and I did that.

Can I replace it with a metal one from the professional series? I don't want to buy another plastic one. The new revised plastic has the same mounting as the old one so I don't think it will hold up better then the first one.

The carb seems just about the same that goes on the Metal intake. it's a Nikki 2 barrel. Only difference I can see it the intake gaskets for the heads are a paper gasket and the plastic intake had flat oring types set inside a groove on the intake.

Here is the part numbers for the two intakes...the plastic one that my parts list calls for is 591784 and the metal one from the professional line is 797503

new guy with new Bad Boy Outlaw 810

20140629_074033.jpgHello all .....

I recently purchased a BB Outlow , 810 Briggs ,61 in cut mower.......

Compared to my old John Deere 316 the bad boy is VERY nice.

Im not a professional mower but I like a nice yard .

we have roughly 6 acres , about 3.5 of that is fenced in pasture for the wifes horse , the rest (2.5) I mow ,

it's all different terrain. .

Some nice and flat, some mean inclines leading to basement entrance.

I have no idea what kind of grass I have [hopefully I will find out from this forum)

But we live out in the sticks and have lots of trees to mow around couple road ditches (mole problem)

Entire pasture is mowed 2 rows on the inside and of course I have to mow up again the fence while mowing the yard

The new mower makes short work of it compared to the ol John deere 316

Don't get me wrong ...... The ol deere was a good lawn tractor but the bad boy runs circles around it

When it comes to mowing.

Couple things ....

When I first started mowing with the bad boy of course it takes some getting used to.

Learned pretty fast.

Initially I had it set on 2 in cut .....

Not sure of it was cutting 2 in but I didn't like the height of the grass so I lowered it to 1.5 and raised the mower up on jack stands

And moved the deck wheels up one bolt hole all the way around

Mostly because just lowering the pin to 1.5 still didn't give me the cut I wanted ......

Now it gives me the height of cut I like.

Sometimes, it scalps a spot or two due to some of the terrain around the yard

But on the main flats it gives me the cut I like .

The mower is comfortable. ... Although I wish I could swing the fancy seat the factory one will work .

I just now have 23 hrs on her

I mow minimum of once a week and power wash her after every 2nd mow

I recently got a little cocky with it and took it out to the center of the uncut pasture and mowed my boys a circle

To ride their new 50cc motorcycle with training wheels so as they don't hit anything in the yard .

I'll admit .... mower probably want made for 3 foot tall horse pasture ...

But I raised deck to 2 in and went slow and although it was working hard

it left an Unbelievable cut and was perfect for the boys to ride their beginner motorcycles.

I'll be honest. ...getting used to the mower I've made a couple grave errors

I first mowed with the roll bar up .well . Cause I didn't know any better

I quickly snagged a tree limb with the roll bar and raised the front of the mower up pretty

High quickly. ....enuf to make me pucker , and put the roll bar in the Dow position

I did accidentally turn blades on while over the gravel drive way (brain fart of the yr)

but like I say I'm new to it so still getting used to it .

I can literally mow the main yard in an hr or so which used to take 2 , 3 hr days and

lots off steering on the ol deere

I really like this mower

There are a couple thing I don't like about it.

Traction .....

I have a few places that stay "damp" and the 2 grades leading to the basement

Are difficult to navigate because it just doesn't hook up ..

Maybe I'm still learning the lever steering system

But I think it does lack a little in the traction department.

The 60 in deck is unbelievably built

sometimes I rub a wood fence post with it and I swear it's gonna snap it off at the ground, but it being 60 in leves a Wierd cut sometimes

In road ditches, kinda like the deck is to large for the ditch ,I've tried angle into the ditch both directions to kinda V it out but sometimes it Still leves a line ...

I just mowed Friday and it was the first time I mowed since mowing the pasture

I noticed for the first time it didn't leve as nice of a cut ...

I'm guessing between me engaging blades over gravel and mowing a pasture I should not have dulled the blades .

I ordered some new ones from bad boy part online store

Hope to get those on this week before I gotta mow again. .

Ok I'll quit gabbing here

I joined this forum to learn all I can about the mower .mowing techniques, and every aspect of having as nice of a lawn as I can

Get ...

Any and all input both negative and positive is greatly appreciated. ..

Thank you

Samot

Hard starting Snapper Big Six

I have a Big Six from ~ '97. It's my secondary mower so sometimes it goes longer without using. Had carb replaced about two years ago. Now it will only start cold with starting fluid. After 1st start it's good to go.

Is it easier to just get new carb? Or does price point to clean rebuild?

Craftsman 29000 30 in. Riding Mower Engine Sound

New Craftsman 29000 Riding Mower engine question

Sears just delivered my new Craftsman 30 inch riding mower Model 29000. Starts up fine and runs okay. Doesn't stall. However, the engine sound is not steady. Instead it has a rhythmic wah wah wah sound which is constant and at all speeds. Could this be something which fades as the engine breaks in or is this a carburetor/spark plug issue? Thanks for any help. Will call Sears to check it out if I can't find the answer on my own.

Transaxle Question (hard shift/ go into gear)

I have a Murray Select 40" cut (Model 40500x8E)2004 equipped with a Dana (Spicer) 4360-152 5-speed trans axle. Last time I mowed I noticed the transmission was getting hard to go into gear, specifically second gear. From neutral to first is ok, I feel a hard clunk, but going to second I have to sometimes jam it in with the clutch engaged engine running. Engine off yields the same results. The shift-link has an adjustable nut I have tightened it one turn, two turns is too much, the only difference I noticed was shifting felt a little smoother, but still hard to shift. Also going from reverse to neutral is a right, up, and slightly over to the right again, it sometimes gets stuck on the second motion going up after going right. It pulls fine, and I don't hear any excess noise like chattering or whining. The brake and clutch were adjusted at the start of this season in March.

So, my question is can I change the transaxle fluid and remedy this problem, or is it more in depth. I know a little about transaxle but not much.

Not sure if it helps or not but i'm not sure the gear fluid has ever been changed this mower was my brother in laws, and I inherited it last year. He originally purchased the mower in 2004.

On the bight side I have a peerless 6 speed as a backup 206-545C

Thanks in advanced --Richey

Peerless 205 series transaxle

My 1999 Snapper 381450HBVE stopped moving the other day. After a little research I figured out that the hydrostatic transmission (Peerless 205-043D) was the problem. Even though I've read a lot telling me that it is not serviceable I figure what do I have to lose and opened it up. The driven part of the hydro drive had all the pistons broken and the ring was cracked. I know that the transaxle is obsolete and I can't replace it but found a the cylinder assembly for a 205-024C on ebay. Does anyone know if the internals on all Peerless 205 series are the same?

The mower works great when it moves and I'd hate to have to scrap it due to a transmission. Its only 15 years old and should have lots of life left in it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

parking on the lawn

so my father is getting married. in 2 weeks. everybody will be parking on my nice lawn since thats the only space to park. what would be best? not mowing where people are going to park and mowing after they leave? or mowing it as i normaly would?

I peaned over crankshaft

Guess I hit crankshaft to hard taking flywheel off. Whats best and cheapest way to fix?

Wrong way Coregan

Trying to mow some lawn the other day and was having a really tough time. Durn thing just won't cut. Not too much to go wrong with a Neuton electric. Blade is sharp. Battery is up. Wait a gal darn minute! This thing's spinning backwards! What now? Are there Diodes or some such stuff that may have failed. I thought the thing was DC from start to finish. I took it apart to clean the insides once but didn't disconnect anything. I thought I hooked up something backwards but the wire lengths wouldn't allow a switch in positions. Any Ideas. Thanks, Skizick

Fuel Bad fuel after 24 days?

So I picked up my new gth24v52ls with the Kawasaki engine in it on May 30. Filled it up on the way home. Cut grass fine for 2 weeks. The third week it just up and quit. No sputtering or anything. Fooled around for about an hour and it started back up. Ran fine for about 5 minutes and quit again. Got it going again and quit after another 5 minutes or so. Called the dealer and took it back. It only had about 7 hours on it. Stored in the garage. Reputable fuel station with lots of turn over so the fuel shouldn't have been an issue.

Call the dealer and he says is was bad fuel, carb was all gummed up and watering the fuel and it is yellow. I said fuel doesn't go bad in 3 weeks. So I go in and get a bill for $150. I also brought in my fuel to compare them to. My fuel out of my gas can is on the right, the gas out of my mower is on the left. They couldn't look more different. So I ask since my fuel from my can is clean couldn't the fuel that they put in it be the cause of it?

I got looking around and looked at the serial number and got to wondering if it was last years model? Can anyone verify this for me? Thanks.

Koehler 25 hp blew oil everywhere

I have a Craftsman gt5000 with the Koehler 25hp. I have only owned it a couple months but really does not burn oil as I check it regularly. Today I was mowing and it began smoking really bad at the front of the engine. It was still running fine but obviously something was wrong. Shut it down and there was oil all over the place and actually caught fire for a second. Put the fire out no problem and nothing hurt. But can not figure out why it would do that or where it came from. Have not made any changes to the engine. It was like a hose or something popped a whole in it but of course there is no such thing. Wondering if its a head gasket from all I hear about that. But would a head gasket cause it to blow oil all over up there? Any help would be much appreciated. Have searched a lot and found nothing like what I am describing. It did not really smoke upon start up except very very little. I have read those threads.

Engine running wide open

I have the Toro LX460 riding lawnmower. While mowing recently the mower took off.....engine running wide open even with the throttle closed. I took it apart and everything looks okay. Leaky intake valve - Briggs Stratton 17.5 Overhead Valve

Engine started to sound very loud and backfires at high RPM/under load. Took the head off and found carbon buildup in the intake valve chamber (could also see backflow from carburator when running rough). Cleaned & hand lapped both valves and set clearance. Doing an air pressure check when back together, seemed to be airtight. All back together and doing the same when running. What am I missing? I plan on doing air test again and relapping intake valve. Any wise words would be appreciated!

Hi,

Marp02 is my username and I'm French Canadian (Qu饕ec). My lawn tractor is Honda H4518. I recently experienced some problems with it, so the reason to join LawnWorld.

Thanks.

power grab!

My local Scag shop had no interest in doing the research; too busy, they said. Even though I was willing to buy the parts from them, they didn't want to invest the time into it.

Any help would be appreciated.

No ignition spark on john Deere m665

I have a john Deere m665 that is not getting fire to plugs. I have changed plugs, cleaned coil contacts on flywheel, and checked continuity on seat switch. Still haven't found anything. Seems to me that parking brake switch or the control leaver safety switches wouldn't cause this because it keeps it from turning over. It turns over fine. (Checked them any way. Only one I haven't checked is pto switch. I made sure it was disengaged, but have not checked switch. Any help is much appreciated! Will Travis

Bahia Grass

Ok guys, give me input on COMMERCIAL mowers and your experience on cutting Bahia grass. We see various makes our Kubotas included that string it pretty bad after it heads out. What do you do about it to make them cut it?

Even with new blades we see it doing this.

Repairs John Deere L110 clanging noise when engine is on

Just happened a few moments ago. a loud pop then clanging noise. The blade in not engaged at this time. I just turned on the engine and I hear this noise. When I step on the brake the noise disappears. When I release the brake it comes back. I think it's coming from the gear box underneath the seat. Your thoughts?

New engine for Husky YTH20K46

I've just acquired a Husky YTH20K46, circa 2009. Overall the mower is in pretty good shape but the previous owner says the Kohler Courage 20 (SV-600) motor is blown. I haven't yet tried to crank it myself, but assuming it really is toast I'd like to replace it with something a grade or two better than the Courage series.

Any suggestions for what engine makes/models will fit with relatively little modification? Higher-end Kohler, B&S, perhaps even a Honda?

Engine Honda GXV530 won't start

First off - this is an awesome website and am happy to be a new member. About me - I have about 5 acres to mow. When it gets too high for the riding mower my solution is a Stanley brush mower (with the Honda GXV530). Starting today the GXV530 will not start normally (in the past it always started right up). If a small amount of gas is put in the carb it will fire up, but stop as soon as the fuel depletes. The gas line up to the carb will drain gas out of it as expected (when disconnected) and the gas tank is 2/3 full. I found what I believe is a approx 1/4" vent hose (?) off the bottom of the carb - not sure what if any impact this may have had on the engine starting problem - assume it came off when previously cutting high brush (just now put it back on). Believe the problem is with the carb but not sure? There is a fuel cut solenoid valve that screws into the carb. Not sure what operates it or if it is even functional (California only?).

Thank you in advance for your help.

I need direction for a residential mower

I have a small lot 1/2 acre mostly flat but one section drops off to the road. Lots of things to go around and I hate trimming. I am too lazy for a mulching push mower so my wife bought me a 42" tractor type at the John Deere store. It scalps and leaves dirt spots where there are high spots in the yard. I see Zero turns, commercial walk behinds, stand ons and such, someone point me in the right direction, I Hate mowing right now.

Attachments Arm rests on ZT - Yes, No?

Always looking for excuses to buy stuff and am wondering if adding arm rests to my Raptor will make it more comfy. I only mow an hour at a time and so far not bad. I need to go to the dealer and sit on one with arm rests and see how they feel. For $109 I can get a seat with arm rests at the local farm store, but not sure about the quality.

Engine Scag turf tiger shuits off after about 5 to 10 minutes. Starts right back up

I have a Scag model STT61-25ch Ser #4310274. Starts up and runs fine for 5 to ten minutes. Sometimes will shut off again in about 30 sec Sometimes will run longer.

It will do this whether your on it or not. Deck on or off. I've replaced fuel filter and fuel lines. Any ideas?

10323 starting problems

I have a lawnboy10546 ser 7904307 with electric start, it won't start woth the electric start, but one pull with the cord and it starts right up. the electric start spins the flywheel thw same as pulling the cord. but it will not even attempt to start. does that bosh plug by the starter or that thing that looks like a stater on the flywheel have anything to do with the electric start. its not the battery before you ask. it spins fine.

Gravely ZT HD 48" or 52"

After checking out several models I've decided to go with the Gravely HD series instead of the Hustler Raptor SD. My only hang up is deciding between the 52" or 48". It takes me about 21/2 hrs to mow with a conventional 46" rider. I have a fairly steep mound system that I mow and about 10 - 12 trees, shrubs, etc. Since there is only $100 difference in price I was thinking the 52" but not sure if it will cut as good as a 48". Any sugestions from those of you that own either one would be appreciated.

Broken crankshaft end

Recently was removing flywheel off of Kohler K161 and broke threaded end of crankshaft. (Hindsight have purchased puller). Drilled through broken piece and into shaft and installed pin, and then welded. Appeared to work, but when engine was started, weld didn't hold. Any hope, or is crank junk?

Raptor SD deck won't latch in raised position

All,

Following a deck adjustment, I'm finding that the foot pedal does not raise the deck enough to latch it in the "up" position. I need to push it nearly through the footrest to engage the latch.

Anyone know how to adjust this? There appears to be a lever with an adjustment on the extension of the foot pedal mechanism (under the seat) but I don't want to go messing with it until I understand better how it works.

Thanks!

Looks like oil in cylinder

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help me with this problem. I have a Toro Wheelhorse 44" riding mower with a 500cc BS intec OHV engine. It started smoking last cutting time and when I tried to start it this cut It would not. I have checked the spark plug and initially the gap was filled with oil. I cleaned the plug good and ran the engine to clear the cylinder while I checked for spark. There was oil in the cylinder and even after replacing the plug with a new one it will still not start. I checked the compression with an ordinary compression tester and got 110lbs. This might not be the right way to test this engine but it does have compression. I also checked the gas line to the carb and have flow. With the oil I couldn't tell if gas was getting into the cylinder. I had cleaned the intake air filter as a spring tuneup and cleaned it again. So now I guess the oil in the cylinder is something that must be corrected. My question is where to look? Valve problem or broken oil ring? I would sure appreciate any help that would be offered to me in this thread and help in where to start to correct it. Thank you in advance.

Echo srm 2500 no start

Hello, and thank you for reading this. I am new to this forum, so please excuse me for any forum faux paus. Anyway, I recently purchased an older 2500 string trimmer, which was running fine but had a leaky primer bulb. Replaced the bulb and everything was fine. Today, it started and ran a few seconds and cut off. Since then I can't even get it to try to start. Tried a new plug, the spark appears ok, I wouldn't say it is blue, but it is yellowish and consistent, and kicks hard when i hold a screwdriver in my hand, stuck in the plug wire, and spin it over. Even with a new plug, it does not even try to start with starting fluid or putting a little gas in the carb throat. The compression seams fine ( I can't hold back the compression by putting my finger over the plug hole, and it pulls with the same compression as it did when it was running fine). Lastly, while pulling it I can feel that plenty of air is coming out of the muffler. The only thing I can think of is something in the coil, maybe the spark Is too weak to jump the gap with compression on the plug, or somehow the timing is off. The funny thing is the last echo string trimmer I had, given to me not running, had the exact same symptoms, and I eventually threw it out, as my best guess was a coil and they are $100.00. Anybody run into anything like this before? Really don't want to drop a boat load of cash on parts. Thanks...

Repairs toro 580d large area mower, high speed not working

any one out there know much about these commercial toro mowers? Talked to Toro, and of course they want me to bring it in, I like to work on my own stuff. It has a high speed switch, which works on occasion if I reset all faults, works until I do anything to take it out of high speed then won't go back in. is there a way to read codes on the 580, or what would cause this problem to test inputs. Has a black box under deck controls but I don't see any of the lights the manual talks about. must be an older version? I believe it is a 1999-2001 model 580d two wheel drive 85 hp diesel. thanks for any help

2014 simplicity rear engine won' start

Just bought the mower yesterday and mowed fine. I don't like the front headlight staying on so I took off the housing to get to the light and there was the 2 wires for the light and what looks like an extra ground wire that isn't hooked to anything. Now the mower will not start. If I use starting fluid in the carb it will run till it burns it then dies. It just isn't getting any fuel. I filled the tank today as it was getting low. I have looked and looked and it seems that the extra wire does not plug into anything. But I need help with whether this wire does plug into something and that is what is causing the no start.

HRM 215K3 SDA - belt pulley on gear transmission

The pulley on the transmission is flopping around. Tried tightening the nut but I believe it is as tight as it will go. Maybe the woodruff key has broken? Or is this more serious and not worth fixing? If I attempt to fix, what is the procedure for removing the transmission? I believe it is a gear transmission (3 speeds).

Kohler model number

Is there a way to tell difference between K161 and K181 is no numbers are left on engine?

Problems on starting

Hi all,

I have old Briggs and Stratton engine lawn mower, model with aluminium tank. I had this lawn mower for free and fixed its carburetor. Also I changed oil (old oil was like mix of diesel and oil.. very thin)(I used this time 15W-40 Super HPD oil because I've heard this machine smoked like hell..) and tried to start it.. But that was with the plug in extremely hard to do. First time rope braked, then after I fixed this "rope", I could get it running, but it run rough, shaked.

Flywheel is on its right position. On copression, valves are closed tightly... But, I've noticed when there is going to be compression, exhaust valve opens for a little bit.. When the piston is in the middle, and closes right after. I thought it's compression release system, to make it easier to crank it. Can it be true? On this kind classic engine, I didn't saw this compression release system... I think so..

So, what could be problem? Too short valve? Problems with camshaft?

P.S.

Sorry for bad English, I'm writing from Finland.

2010 Craftsman 917.28922

My wife and I are buying a house that is situated on an acre. Someone I know has a 2010 Craftsman 917.28922 riding mower; 21 hp, 42" deck. It has been well maintained. I can get it for $750 but I have no idea if that is a good price or not. Any input would be appreciated.

Sputter, Sputter, Zoom, then out

I have a Craftsman mower that's about eight years old, though it's been used lightly during that time.

This summer, it worked fine the first time out. But subsequently, after starting it up, the engine just sputtered and sputtered and sputtered, though the blade still turned and cut grass. Just before it runs out of gas, it revs up to full speed, then dies 30 seconds later.

I live in a small town whose only small engine mechanic is expensive and of dubious quality and integrity.

Anybody have an idea of what could be bothering my mower and how difficult it would be to repair myself?

Riding Tractor

Trying to decide on Buying the Husqvarna YTH22V46 or the John Deere D125 to replace a 2008 Toro timecutterZ with a blown Kohler Courage 21hp. Any insights would be welcomed. HRX AND HRR HARD TO TURN FUEL SHUT OFF VALVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a common problem with honda mowers ? i have both models and one is new for this year and other is 3 years old and both have awful sticky fuel shut off valves ! one even snapped and broke from trying to shut off and now dangles . this is poor quality in my book . I mean it's as if its stuck in place . anyone knows how to get these to free up ? thanks

Rebuilt Briggs and Stratton 3.5 HP engine

Well I have my 3.5 HP B&S engine and carburetor rebuilt. I have got it running, also. I have started the engine and adjusted the carburetor and it runs really well. However, when I put the air filter on top of the carburetor the engine chokes and cuts off. Also, my engine is on my tiller and if I engage the clutch (without the air filter) and try to till with it the engine cuts off.

Any idea what is wrong? The carburetor is a late pulsa jet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Buying Advice CP214012R2 Zero Turn Robin 2 Cycle

I would like some advice on purchasing the pictured mower. I is listed locally. The seller says he is the original owner and that is was used only at his residence. I have a regular commercial hi-vac I purchased new ~16 years ago with the Robin 2 cycle. Great mower and I have had no issues which is why I am looking for some more. I just picked up an 87 BBC Extra tough model with the Wisconsin 2 cycle. I aslo have 2 parts engines so spares is not a problem.

Any input on this mower. Is the zero turn feature really useful? Is this model any more or less valuable than the non zero turn models? Is $225 a good price assuming it is in good shape? Is there any resale opportunity after fluff and buff and addressing any issues?

Thanks for the comments!

How to tell if pto switch is bad?

How can I tell if my pto switch is bad? I have a Hustler Rapture SD 54". I gave it a wash job after moving. I was putting it up and tried out the pto came on for couple of seconds and just stopped. checked fuse it was good replaced any how just in case. still pto not engaging. Wondering if switch my be bad. Still under warranty but it would be just as easy to take switch to dealer as have them come and pick up mower.

Lapping Valves?

Hi, Guys. I have a 14.5 HP Briggs OHV single cylinder on a riding mower. It currently runs somewhat rough as it spits through the intake and occasionally backfires. Is this most likely the valves not seating correctly? Should I lap the valves? If so, what grit should I use? I adjusted the valve clearances and no change. Thanks for your advice.

Type of oil

Just purchased a Z920M zero turn mower from John Deere. Any of you folks have this mower and if so what type of oil do you use. I figure that John Deere oil would be the most expensive.

Are Raptor SD blades level? (deck leveling question)

All,

I'm in the process of leveling the deck on my 54 Raptor SD per the instructions in the manual. The manual has you set it level left-right and front-rear. I've heard that you should have 1/8" - 1/4" lower in the front for improved cut quality. Before I go and set it this way, I wanted to see if anyone knew if the blades themselves were level or if they were already pitched in this direction. I tried to measure them and they seemed fairly level, but it's hard to work under the deck with a tape measure. Thanks!

weird problem with the Gravely 34z

Got the mower off the trailer and cut the front yard. Shut it off to go around to the small gate and get in the backyard to open the big gate. The thing wouldn't start. I finally realized I didn't have the brake on. Started right up but as soon as I released the brake it quit. Ziptied the switch down so I coul finish the yard but whenever I engaged the blades it would stop running. I didn't have time to mess with it anymore so I cut the back yard with the Turfmaster 30. Need to figure out what the problem is tho. Obviously some part(s) of the safety system but two different circuits going off at one time seems odd. Still runs great... just won't cut.

2000 yardmachine model# 13ak608go62

Hello everone, need some help. I got this mower from a frend. He could'nt keep the drive belt on. He took the mower all apart and found the verable speed pulley was wore out, and the hole where the pulley fastened was wallowed out. I drilled the hole bigger and put a bushing in it. I found a good used verable speed pulley that was in great shape.Everthing fit good so I put two new mtd drive belts on it. The problem is it only goes slow, It won't speed up when I press the foot padel.

How old is your lawn mower tractor

You use to cut your lawn.

Mine is a 1972 JD 112 electric lift.

I bought it as a fixer upper in 96, been cutting my 2 acre lawn with ever since, it is still running like a dandy

Tractor is on its original tires but on his second kohler engine.

I have 1973 identical JD 112 as back up but it gets used mainly with the roto tiller in the garden,..i have a mower deck and snow blower for it as well.
