Exmark let me down today

Danged traction cable broke. That thing is thick... wondering how it broke. $45 including shipping... damn

Even worse... the blade brake clutch keeps slipping out of engagement. Hoping thats a cable adjustment or some easy fix. The control part is pricey and so is a clutch. Never had a clutch go out on a mower before. I suppose it can start slipping before it goes out like a clutch in a car?

ryobi tools (new 24v cordless edger)

so I have been a big fan of Ryobi's 18v one series of tools, I had bought the 18v weedeater last year and it works very well for home use, over the winter I found Ryobi's 24v edger for sale for $79 from Lowes, I finally unpacked it an tested it. I have to say I am surprised how far we have come, it has no problem cutting through the winter growth to give a perfect edging, it is not as powerful as my old standby 3.5 horse 3 wheel bolens edger, but honestly I am looking forward to not having to lug it around nor replacing the belt it seems to always eat!

Inside disc drive or outside? It's on the outside and tractor is jammed in gear. It won't roll in any gear with clutch in or out. Im not sure what the problem is. Any ideas? Thanks

new member introduction.

Hi,

My name is Gary. My tractor is a 1973 Simplicity Yeoman 648 that my Dad bought brand new for $699. I have been using it to cut my 3/4 acre lot for the past 14 years and it does a great job for such a little machine. Now I am in the process of restoring it. It is on my garage floor in about 100 pieces. During the life of the tractor, I've rebuilt the engine twice, did a bearing job on mower deck, among many other things, but this is my first complete restoration. If anybody has any tips or has any questions on my restore job, let me know.

busted kohler engine

I have a troy-bilt bronco riding lawnmower model # 13wx78ks011 with blown kohler sv600-0224 engine would like to replace it with a B&S 3319770001 engine. Will this work are just wishful thinking on my part?, heard I would have problem with exhaust outlet and wiring I am 73 years old on SS yard is too big for push mower. Would be great full for any help.

hustler not running good

have a hustler super z 30 hp kolher. runs for 10 minutes blades engaged or not. will start right up then lose power after 10 minutes have to pull choke up to keep running. Brought to shop and they replaced all fuel lines and filters, fuel pump and cleaned carb. Said rebuild was not needed. Brought home and ran good for 20 minutes. Brought back and they cleaned carb again. They said they let it run for an hour and didn't have problem. When I first brought it in it acted up and they good only keep it running with choke pulled. Mower is 2007 with 151 hours. Only used for home with 2 acres. First 6-7 years never a problem.

Any help will be appreciated

New Lawn Tractor

Just bought at Lowes a new 48 inch Husky lawn tractor. One front wheel has a wobble more than the other. Lowes wants me to bring the mower back and get a new one... Is this kind of normal? Seems like the wheel might be bent.

Need help making a decision on which Zero-Turn to buy

I have been looking at different Zero-Turn brands and would appreciate everyone's input/opinion.

I currently mow 3 Acres, which is flat.

Looking at the Husqvarna M-ZT 52, Husqvarna M-ZT 52 - Zero turn mowers

Seems like a solid mower...Heavy Duty Frame, Large Tires, Foldable ROPS, ZT3400 Hydro's, Kawasaki Engine, 10 Gauge Fabricated Deck, no too happy with the chain hung deck though.

The only thing that it seems to be lacking is a Donaldson Air Filter.

I've been looking at the Gravely Pro-Turn 152 HDX, but am having a hard time justifying the $2,480 price differnce.

I've also looked at Hustler, Kubota, and Bad Boy. I kinda want a Commercial Grade Zero-Turn to ensure long lasting durability.

Any thoughts/input/recommendations?

Thanks!

Exmark Lazer z won't start after trailering

So here's the issue. Ive got a early 2000's exmark lazer z 25hp air cooled mower. It has been a great machine all it's life. All of last season I experienced a major problem when ever I trailered the machine from lawn to lawn. When I would move the mower from lawn to lawn I would get ready to mow I'd turn the key and the motor would crank and crank. It doesn't make the normal noise when cranking. It pops and backfires and if you're lucky one cylinder will fire and it will run for ten seconds on one cylinder then die out. After repeating this process of getting the mower to fire on one cylinder the battery will run dead. Eventually (and I have no idea why) everything returns to normal, the motor cranking is normal and both cylinders fire and everything smooths out and it will run perfect all day long, until it is shut off and trailered again. I assume it has to be something to do with bouncing on the trailer. When it isn't trailered it will fire up every single time at my house. Possibly the carb is flooding? Or the magnetos for the spark plugs are bad? The motor was just rebuilt at the end of last season (rings, lifters, valves, push rods) and it didn't solve the problem. Again the machine runs perfect once it gets started. Where should I begin my trouble shooting? Any suggestions?

Craftsman DYT 4000 won't turn over even with a new battery

I have a craftsman DYT 4000 that won't turn over even when I know my battery is completely charged. It seems like the starter doesn't have enough power to crank it. Every once in a while if I turn the key and then use my hand it will turn over to the point where it will start, but it used to start up just fine. If I turn the key for too long, the starter will start to smoke. Anyone know if I need a new starter or cylenoid? Or has anyone else had this problem. I just don't want to buy a new starter if it is something else.

Toro Recycler Starts then dies (and other problems) Very long post sorry

End of last summer I got a Toro Recycler waaaay to cheap. It needed some work done to it and I knew that when I bought it. When I bought it I turned it on at the location and I turned it on when I got back home with no problem. I emptied out the gas and stored it away for the winter. Last week I filled her up with new gas and some sta-bil, and it started and instantly stopped. I tried to start it again, and got nothing. I tried some more and about a hundred more times to much failure. Maybe 1 out of every 15 attempts resulted in it starting for 1 second then dying. Spraying in some starting fluid will result in the same outcome.

It is a Toro Recycler model 20065 with a Briggs and Stratton engine. 6.50 190cc.

Ok first off, the air filter is completely screwed, the filter itself doesn't look THAT bad, but the housing that holds it up against the mower is completely wrong, its from some random Ryobi electric edger or something. The housing that holds the actual filter is stock and fine and normal, but the little door that closes on the outside is completely wrong. A couple zip ties and a long screw and problem solved (maybe). As I said the air filter could probably use a changing but to my understanding mowers will still 'at least' start up without one. (maybe im wrong). Beyond that, I took my carb apart for cleaning and it wasn't that bad either, I didn't notice any diaphragms but im not even sure if this carb is supposed to have any. All gaskets in the carb looked ok and all nooks and crannies in the carb where sprayed down and re installed. I noticed that the primer bulb didn't do anything. It basically pushes and I hear a little "hiss" and practicaly nothing happens. I cant feel any fuel in the bulb after a couple pushes or anything like that, and I cant feel any fuel moving through it. I replaced the gasket around the outside of the carb (the part that touches my filter housing) thinking that would help my primber bulb. But, after taking my janky filter and cover off to see if I got any gas moving through, I still do not see or feel any fluid moving through the bulb or carb. I checked spark plug and it looked ok so im thinking that's not the problem.

Main problem: Starts then dies, Bulb doesn't prime.

Sorry for the long paragraph, just wanted to get all the info I could for you guys, feel free to jump in and prove me wrong. If I did something wrong or assumed something wrong it will have been the first time in my life so be easy on me (joke). THanks ill be on here most of the day in anxious wait.

opening a can of worms... anybody want some? :P

I have an exmark 21 with a Honda 5.5 engine. I've owned severeal Hondas with engine from 5hp to 7hp. The exmark cuts rings around the Hondas. It cuts through grass that would bog the Hondas. Any thoughts on why? Seems odd to me since it's just a 5.5 engine.

Still seeking help on old poulan chain saw

I posted an earlier thread about problem sith my old poulan chain saw. The model is S25. I received several responses and appreciate each one. On my earlier thread titled Need Help With Old Poulan chain saw i listed all the thing I have done to the saw and all parts which I have replaced.

I had some time this morning so I went to the shop took the spark plug out and tried the pull rope. The engined pulled very easily and with no resistance completely through the pull. I replaced the plug, LEFT OFF THE PLUG WIRE and tried to pull the rope. It felt like the engine had 300 pounds of compression. By jerking hard on the starter rope it will move only a few inches. I do not understand this at all.

I have my original owners manual for the saw but it isn't much help. Does anyone know where I might find a complete repair manual for the saw?

All help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Frustrated Texan and yes we all still need rain.

Cordless electric purchase: EGO 20" 56V vs. GreenWorks G-MAX Twin Force 20" 40V

Hey everyone,

First time homebuyer, so new to the landscaping and lawn mowing world. I am strongly considering an electric cordless mower for mowing our ~12K sq ft yard. Our entire lot is a tad less than 0.3 acre (including the home and driveway), so I believe a cordless mower should suffice.

I had been leaning towards the GreenWorks G-MAX Twin Force 20" 40V mower for the past week, but just stumbled across the EGO 20" 56V mower yesterday during my weekly run to Home Depot. Both mowers have great reviews, but the EGO has a better warranty and some nice bonuses, like compact upright storage and 30 minute full charge time.

Here's my detailed product comparison:

GreenWorks G-MAX Twin Force 20" 40V Mower

  • Includes 2 4AH Lithium Ion

  • 75 hour run time

  • 2 hour charge time

  • 50.5 pounds (with battery)

  • 2-in-1: bagging or mulching

  • Energy conservation - automatically powers up when sensing grass buildup

  • 4-year warranty equipment; 2-year warranty battery

  • Non-compact storage (handle collapses, but unit is not foldable)

  • $350.99 (no tax or shipping; 2.5% cashback on FatWallet) on CPO Outlets

EGO 20" 56V Lithium Ion Mower

  • Includes 1 56V Lithium Ion Battery

  • 45 hour run time

  • 30 minute charge time

  • 62 pounds (with battery)

  • 2-in-1: bagging or mulching

  • 5-year warranty equipment; 3-year warranty battery

  • Compact upright storage

  • $471.24 after sales tax less 10% coupon + 5% ShopDiscover cashback at Home Depot (retails for $499.99+tax)

Obviously the GreenWorks is a great deal for 30 more minutes of runtime, an extra 40V LiIon battery, and a lighter mower. Tradeoff is 1 less year warranty for both equipment and battery, a longer charge time, larger storage requirement and I've heard GreenWorks customer support is somewhat troublesome (haven't heard much about EGO's customer support).

Also, for what it's worth, I have a $346 Home Depot gift card received as a housewarming gift I could use on the EGO, but not the GreenWorks, obviously.

So, with all this said, would you pay the extra $111 for the EGO or save some money (but pay out of pocket) for the GreenWorks?

Front wheels not lined up and seem bent

Went up a curb on an angle and now the front wheels are not lined up and seem bent ie; when one wheel is straight the other is angling left or right. I have a Craftsman YTZ 4000 24 HP. Its a bit of a struggle keeping it straight. Is this an easy fix?

Allergies

I haven't been able to mow for the last 30 years because of horrific allergies. Present situation means either I do it, pay to have it done or it doesn't get done. (we paid the guy who used to do the lawn around the house over $1300.00 pr year) Does anyone else on the forum suffer from this? I have been using a 3M particle mask which seems to work acceptability well unless you try to use them more than once.

Thanks

Loaded question on mower - battery or gas

Hey everyone! my wife and I moved into our first house last year towards the end of the season and just paid the local landscaper who was cutting a lot of our neighbors yards. I am not looking to keep up that expense! We are on 1/3 acre which the majority is somewhat of a slant/hill (not horrible, but decidedly not flat). I am accustom to an unpropelled gas push mower from when I cut for my parents on their 3/5 acre. The problem I have is we currently have no outdoor storage. I am trying to be monetary conscious and I don't want to buy a decent gas mower and have it rust out before I can build a shed (probably wont be able to make that happen til the fall). This is what led me to research the rechargeable battery mowers. Most are a thick plastic decking which will prevent my rust concern -it also could be brought into my basement since there wont be gas fumes (tho I guess it would smell very grassy down there). With a 1/3 of an acre I know I would need 2 batteries, but I am not positive if that will cut it. Looking at the ryobi 40v and the black and decker battery models. Would like to keep my purchase below $400.

Anyones thoughts would be appreciated

1) buy battery mower and have 2 batteries

2) buy cheap gas powered and throw a tarp over it (don't plan on it lasting more than 1, 2? seasons)

Engine 1986 John Deere 318

Hello everyone!

I need to start by saying I am at the very beginning stages of learning about all the thing a you guys seem to know so much about.

I got a ton of help from this forum last week on my leaf vac.

Everyone around here wants to fix things for me and I appreciate that but I really want to learn myself and this forum has done that for me.

Now my problem... My family's 1986 John Deere 318 that sat in the weather for the last 25 years is not getting enough power. Seems full throttle seems weak.

If has the Onan engine and the gas in it is good.

So there you have it. Now let me have it!

Thanks for any direction or suggestions!

ATV tires on a zero turn mower?

Hello!

I was curious if anyone has ever used tires designed for an ATV on his zero turn mower.

I have a Dixie Chopper XW2000, and the rear tires are size 22x11-8.

I need to replace one of the tires and have an ATV tire of the same size, a four-ply Excel Sahara Classic.

I do notice that the max load rating imprinted on the ATV tire is 340 lbs., and I believe that some replacement tires for ZTRs from manufacturers such as Carlisle have higher max load ratings than that.

I think that these Excel ATV tires are widely used on golf carts, which, I believe, are fairly heavy.

What is the main difference in the construction between ATV and mower tires, and are they interchangeable?

Thanks for any input.

Help with grass that wont green up

I know very little about lawn care other than to just keep it mowed. Much of my front lawn rarely greens up any time of the year. I'd like to fix this but I'm unsure where to start. I'm unsure of the type of grass but I have taken pics so maybe you can help me identify it and what I should do to fix it. Thanks.

HRX217HYA

I just bought a brand new hrx217hya honda lawnmower from a local dealer. I noticed the model number on the mower is hrx2173hya. What is the difference between this and the hrx2174hya? Is it last year's model?

I pretty sure it was new since me and the owner put oil and gas in it. It looked dry before adding the fluids.

If it is last years model, should I be concerned? Should I ask for the newer one?

Thanks for your help.

Toro Wheel Horse model 244-5 transmission

Can anyone tell me what type of transmission fluid to use on this type of transmission? I don't see any listing for a transmission fluid in the parts manual for this machine.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Another drive belt/transmission question

Hi all

This is my first post... I have a Husqvarna 2346XLS riding mower which I purchased new in 2008. It has the infamous Briggs & Stratton 23 HP 'Vanguard' engine and the TuffTorq K46 LD transaxle. The mower has about 300 hours on it. The lawn that I mow is a little less than an acre and the terrain is gently rolling - not really a hill.

In 2012, I noticed that it wasn't pulling as well as it had been, so I contacted my dealer (a generally useless individual...). He told me to bring it in, so in the spring of 2013 I had to take it back for the tie rod problem and I asked him to look at the drive system and let me know what repairs were needed. He did a few little things to the mower, then called me and told me it was 'fixed'. When I got it home, there was no change in the way it pulled, so I called him back, only to have him tell me that he couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Fast forward to last fall: The mower will barely pull itself uphill. If it slows down, I can lift my foot off the 'forward drive pedal' and quickly push it down again. The mower will usually pull harder for a little while. Thinking that this was simply a belt-slippage problem, I removed the 'body' to check the belt and pulleys. The motion drive belt looks OK, but it's noticeably loose. I don't see anything wrong with the idler pulleys, but then, I'm certainly no expert! While searching this forum, I've now read quite a few horror stories about problems with the fluid in the transaxle overheating.

So the question is: Do I replace the motion drive belt and see if it fixes the problem? Or - do I go to another dealer to have the problem evaluated? I know that I've waited too late for quick service this spring, but the garage has been too darn cold to work in until about a week ago!

Any and all advice is appreciated!

New Greenworks DigiPro GMAX 40 Volt multi-attachment system

Just out on the Greenworks website, the basic tool is a 14" string trimmer with .080 dual line bump-feed head with a power head that can be attached to other compatible tools such as a disc brush cutter, stick edger, pole saw and blower. It claims compatibility with gas attachments from other brands such as Ryobi and Yardworks.

Repairs Defeat / Bypass the Husqvarna seat safety switch

/RANT_ON

I understand the need for safety devices, but having them 'forced on me' to throw me in with the lowest common denominator of stupidity makes me mad.

/RANT_OFF

Instructions Step by Step (with pictures):

1) Move the seat all the way forward

2) Lift Seat

3) Unplug safety switch

4) Locate the shorting bar tabs on the plug (see picture) - both the 3 & 4 pin models SHOULD be the same:

100_0512.jpg

5) Gently pull the shorting bar out of the plug:

100_0513.jpg

6) Leave it UNPLUGGED to bypass the safety -- PLUG IT IN to turn on the safety (so your dumb cousin can use it)

DONE.

I will not monitor this thread; I will not respond to EMails or messages (they are shut off); I will not help you with other safety devices on this (or other mowers); I will also NOT be responsible for you doing something stupid (personal responsibility at its finest)

JD Lt155 Information

My son bought a JD LT155. I have a question. The speed control/forward-reverse lever is on the right fender. On all the LT155's I found on the internet the controls are on the right floorboard. Was the location of the controls an option or did JD make a mid model year change for the location of the controls?

Stihl 015 Problem

Recently I inherited a Stihl 015 chainsaw that had sat up for a long time. I dumped the old gas out and refilled with fresh gas. The saw started and ran for about 4 minutes and then it died. Since then it has made no effort what so ever to start again. I pulled the side cover off and squirted a small amount of gas into the carburetor and it started immediately and ran for about 3 seconds. At that point I removed the fuel line from the carburetor. With the saw sitting upright and a full tank of gas, there was no gas coming out of the line. I could hold the end of the fuel line lower than the saw and some fuel would slowly drip out. I have not been able to find any instructions on how to remove the fuel filter to see if it is clogged. I did back flush the fuel line with some carburetor cleaner, but it didn't seem to help. So, as a chain saw neophyte, should I see fuel run out of the line when it is disconnected? Since it does run when fuel is squirted directly into to carburetor, is it more likely that the carburetor is plugged? Because this is an old saw, but almost never used, and finding parts seems to be a bear, I don't want to disassemble more than I have to before having a decent idea where the problem is. Thanks for any assistance!

Problems with rear guard on HRS2164PDA

I just purchased a HRS2164PDA. Is the rear guard supposed to be just a flat piece of plastic that sticks out from under the rear of the mower deck? It is flat and stiff with sharp edges and it just digs in to the dirt any time I try to pull the mower backwards. I have had other push mowers with similar guards that had a more rounded profile and were more flexible.

Is there an adjustment or something that is needed?

Oil on plug

I have a craftsman 917.376401 mower with the briggs and stratton engine. I had mowed the lawn just a week ago with no problems and today I wen't out to start the mower up and it would not start. I pulled the plug and it was covered in oil. It is about 6 or 7 years old, is it time for a new mower?

Repairs 1995 725 W/Kubota Engine (HELP)

My 725 has the 61" deck and I love it. Here is what has started to happen...

The left side tire is starting to lockup and becomes completely bound up where I can only go in circles. After a while it frees up and works fine, then starts to grab and soon locks up again. I took it in to my Grasshopper dealer and he charged me $600 for a repair and it didn't fix the problem.

It feels like the brake is coming on ? Help, a need a resolution w/o spending lots and lots more money.

2009 PTO Clutch seized on shaft

Good morning. I am new to the site. I was hoping I could find some help. I have a Troy Bilt Colt ZTR mower. The PTO clutch went out. I have been able to get everything off except the portion near the drive pulley. In essence the clutch was so shot it came apart in pieces. Likely due to leaving the mower at my two acre rent house for tenants to use. My question, is there something I need to do to specifically remove the rest of the PTO clutch without damaging the upper drive pulley? Or is it likely just seized on the shaft and therefore goibg to take extreme persuasion tactics. At this point I am almost ready to trash the mower and go buy a new one.

Ride On Mower won't collect grass

Hi,

I recently bought a second hand Partner p13592rb ride on mower. It is in perfect working order but for only one problem... it won't collect the grass. I know thta it is supposed to collect the grass because it has the collection basket. I have connected everything correctly, collection chute, basket ect... but it still will not collect the grass. I think this machine is very close to the Husqvarna range, if anyone has any experience with these?

Any help/advice would be greatly apprecieated.

John Deere LT155 Speed control

My son bought a JD LT155. the speed controls/forward-reverse lever is on the right fender. All the LT155 I saw in the internet have the controls on the right floorboard. Lawn Boy 8241AE

Greetings to all.

I'm breaking my cherry, as this is my first post.

I recently scored a Lawn Boy 8241AE. It is a F-series engine, electric start only, self propelled, capstan drive, single speed model. I paid $30.00 for it and that included the original owners manual, the original Lawn Boy battery charger and several receipts for repairs and maintenance that was performed over the years. Cosmetically, it appears to be in excellent condition. I have yet to start it, but the motor turns freely and seems to have good compression. I am presently charging the battery but I have a feeling I will need to purchase a new one.

I have a couple of questions regarding this model:

1) Has anyone ever converted or adapted a pull-start on to this model? If so, can the electric starter be retained with the manual pull-start?

2) Will other F-series fuel tanks fit on this model? There is nothing wrong with the existing tank, I just like the way other F-series tanks look.

Looking forward to sharing on this forum. Have a great day!

Regards,

Jim

I just bought a used 34z and thought I'd make a post here. It's my first zero turn so I've got some practicing to do ;) It's a 2009 model with 245 hours. I'll be looking around for other posts on the 34z but any tips or advice is welcome. I haven't had a chance to mow with it yet but I've driven it a couple of times. I gotta say I'm liking it a lot so far. It's pretty fast

Looking for Lawn Care Professional

I wasn't sure where to post this, but here go's.

I always have done my own mowing, seeding, fertilizing, etc. I still intend to do my own mowing, but need a little help with the fertilizing. The growing season is when I am the busiest at work. It seems like I never have the time when the conditions are right for applying fertilizer. If I put down weed killer, a freak storm will wash it away before it can do any good. Or I'll get up early on a weekend morning to apply it, and for the first time ever, there won't be any dew, and it won't stick, etc, etc.

I started to look at the lawn care places like TruGreen, Scotts, and Turf Masters. When I look at the on line ratings of six different companies, the highest rating was a 1.6 out of 5. Three of them had a 1.0 rating, and that was with 10 or more reviews. I've never seen any companies rated that bad. Plus, these were lengthy credible reviews.

What do non-professionals do to find someone decent to do this type of work. I know I would never hire any of the companies with a 1.6 or lower rating.

Thanks,

Bruce

yamaha lawn mower

has any one ever seen a Yamaha mower we have one and its hard to find parts for it I was wondering how rare it was

Briggs and Stratton engine running slow and "lumpy"

I have a Mountfield mower (UK brand) with a small B&S Quattro motor - about 12 years old. It starts OK and then runs with a stutter, or "lumpy" as we say over here. I have:

a) Replaced the plug

b) Cleaned the air filter and re-oiled

c) Cleaned the carb and replaced the diaphragm and gasket (dang - I thought this would be the issue but apparently not)

d) Emptied the tank and replaced with fresh fuel

e) Topped up the oil

So what's left? Maybe the valves are sticky? If so, is there any way to fix them? If the remedy is to take the head off, any suggestions about where to find instructions for that?

husqvarna doesnt want to restart while hot

My ztr with Briggs motor runs great and starts easy, however once it gets hot it will not start once shut off not react at all when the key is turned. It acts as though a safety switch has been activated. After 30 minutes(exactly) it fires right up. Could use some help.

Anybody Have a 48" Pro-Turn?

I'm going back and forth with the Pro-Turn, HD and even the Kommander. Of the three, the Pro-Turn seems much better quality than the other two in a few respects but I have one concern. As a matter of background, I noticed that the 48" Pro-Turn deck sits further back from the caster wheels than its larger deck cousins since they use the identical frame. My concern with the 48" deck is that there may be an issue when cutting into corners and going into bushes since the deck sits further back from the wheels. Has anyone who has the 48" Pro-Turn noticed this being an issue? The HD's caster wheels are about 3 1/2" closer to the deck.

Bought another mower

It's a Gravely z34. I got tired of waiting for someone to sell a Ferris or SnapperPro cheap. I saw a z34 at a mower shop and thought about buying it but it was $1800 and I kept thinking. Then I saw this one posted on CL last night and it looked better and was $800 less. It runs great but there wasn't enough grass to get a good sense of how it cuts. Damn this thing seems so fast. I'm going to have to learn how to drive it... well ;) And set it up properly and do maintenance. This should be the main mower now. I'm open to advice and I'm sure I'll have questions. I don't have any pics yet but here's a couple from the ad.

Honda 2113 Harmony

Hullo all, This is my first post. Last month I acquired a Honda Harmony 2113 Ride On. We are on 7 acres with about 1 acre of mowable scrubby grass (not lawn). I have always used a push mower and now, I can get the job done in double quick time. However, the Honda doesn't seem to cut as well as I would like. I have it set to the highest level and even in long grass, the cut seems to be average to say the least. I don't expect it to be bowling green smooth but if it could approach the quality of a push mower job, that would be nice. Living in Australia, our grass is very tough and tropical so am I expecting too much?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

HRC216K3HXA Front Wheel Replacement

Does anyone know if the front wheel kit on the HRZ216TDA will work on the HRC216HXA mower? The HRC is a sweet unit but Honda does not offer a kit for this mower. It sure would make it a lot easier with swivel wheels. I know that EAZYMOW offers a kit but I am not sure if the EASYMOW kit would stand up to the weight of the mower. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Dixie Chopper XT3200 parking brake not holding

Hello, the parking brake on my Dixie Chopper XT3200 will not hold the mower on hills even when making the adjustment very tight. I thought the brakes were crystallized so I pulled the hubs off and sanded the pads a little. This didn't make any difference. Is there a way to adjust the pads so they are against the drums more? Thanks!

PS - the mover has been great

New MX5060 Owner

Took delivery of shiny new MX5060. (Unlike some family members, I plan on keeping it looking shiny new)

Reading the manual, I have some questions:

Oil Change. Manual calls for straight weight oil? This area sees temps in the 90's to low 100's during the summer. Toro says use 40W.

What's everyone doing in this case? I use 20-50 in my Shelby so I keep plenty of it. Any advantage to using Mobil 1 or another synthetic?

Filter. Manual says to change every other time oil is changed. I would be inclined to replace the filter every time, correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

Plastic cover on the mowing deck

Hi everyone from sunny France.

I`ve just had the deck off my MTD 36inch cut rideon to prepare it for the cutting season.

Its a pain to remove with the plastic cover in place, also grass collects under the cover. Can I leave the cover off because it certainly does not stop grass clogging round the belt pulleys.I cannot think of anything detrimental to doing this, anyone any ideas as to leaving the cover off.

Raptor with mulch kit - clippings escape?

Hi,

I'm looking at picking up a Raptor with a mulch kit and my wife is concerned about the amount of clippings that escape from under the deck in all directions. She doesn't want her flower beds full of clippings. Right now I push mow up next to them and still get clippings over the 2 and 3 landscape blocks high edge. I don't know of a mower that doesn't do this, but thought I'd ask before we purchased. Can anyone give any feedback on this? Does anyone stay away from flower beds due to the amount of clippings being thrown in? Or are most of them kept under the deck and you don't hesitate to mow close?

Thanks,

What size mojack?

I just purchased a brand new turf tiger 52". Id like to get a mojack for changing blades and maintenance. Just not sure which mojack to get. Can someone help me with this? I already have a mojack that's rated for 300# that I used for my cub cadet lawn tractor. Will this be big enough or do I need to step up to the 500#.

Cub Cadet zforce sz54

I've been pondering the cub steering wheel version (zforce sz 54) of the zero turn for probably 2 years or so. I have test drove a couple times in the past and liked it. I posted here about it and folks had concerns over the hydros, engine and deck which were great points and made me think about longevity here. Looking at this years version it looks like cub has addressed some of them.

Now has a 24 hp kaw fr series

2800 zt hydros not the non-serviceable ezt variety now

the deck is now fabricated

Wanted to get some thoughts with these changes any concerns? Also see it has two gas tanks now not sure if this is really a pro or con. It now has a price tag on the site of about $5500 to go with the enhacements. Really want the zero turn, but need the steering wheel because of the land i mow.

Husqvarna MZ6128ZT, One blade Not turning

It is about 18 months old with about 70 hrs on it. I'm out of town at the moment and my BIL was mowing for me and sucked a plastic tarp under the left side. The engine bogged down and stopped. He cut the tarp off and it started back up fine, but when he engaged the blades, the middle and right blade turned OK but the left blade does not turn. He can turn the blade freely with his hand and it is a little stiff as normal. Looking at the IPB I don't see a shear pin anywhere so it's not obvious what to look for next. Any suggestions are appreciated.

REASONABLE OFFER FOR FASTRAK SD....

I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on a 2013 FasTrak Super Duty. The price the salesman quoted me was $6,500 cash or $6,629 if I finance. I will definitely need to finance.

My question is this: What is a reasonable offer to give for this model of Hustler? I talked to a guy who has a small landscaping company, and he said he would offer him $6,000 out-the-door with financing. But then again, this guy has done business with this dealer before and bought 2 (or maybe 3, I can't recall) Super Z's from him. I'm sure that amount of repeat business would give him much more bargaining power than that of a first-time customer like myself. So what would you say would be a reasonable offer to submit?

Scott's 2348 Lawn Tractor Transmission?

I used the tractor a couple of weeks ago and it worked fine. Transported on trailer.

When I unloaded it a couple weeks ago, I didn't bother to push the transmission disengagement "thing" back in... didn't think about it.

When I got on this AM to knock out a patch of premature growth, I cranked her up and after warm-up, pressed the "forward" pedal.. and nothing. Of course - I remembered the disengagement "thing" and pushed it in. I press the forward pedal and it sounds like a standard transmission being shifted without a clutch. I stopped and shut machine off. I check the oil through the "peep hole" (which is such a horrible design - it is VERY hard to see anything). I pull the cap and see that the reservoir is essentially empty.

I look up online that the tractor came with 5W30 in the hydro transmission, and the manual says to put in 5W50 Synthetic when adding... Well ok...

I run to parts store, grab a bottle of the only 5W50 syn they have. I get home, add oil until I am fairly confident that the level is right. Get on machine, crank it up and press the forward pedal - a very brief grinding again, but then it immediately quiets down and runs smoothly. I make a couple of passes and it is running along nicely.

I get to a point I need to back up to turn around - I come to a stop, and press the heel/reverse lever and machine begins to move backwards as expected... for a couple of feet then a puff of smoke from under the tractor, and the machine stops moving (engine still running). No forward or backward pedal does anything at all - no noise, no nothing.

A friend suggested I check the main drive belt. He said I will likely have to pull the deck off (fun fun).

Anyone have any thoughts? Is it likely just a belt? Or could something have gone south in the tranny?

Youtube reviews

They seem to be pretty much useless by and large. Guy talks about things that aren't really helpful for the most part and then maybe cranks up the machine. One thing that pretty amazing to me is these 12 and 13 year old kids with commercial machines I'd love to have.

Snapper P21507BE Repower help

I have a self propelled Snapper Mower with model number P21507BE. The engine information is Model: 124707, Type: 3114-01, and Code: 90031325. While the engine is shot, the rest of the mower has many good years left, I believe. I have been looking on multiple sites for a new engine for this mower. The real problem I am having is that I know from hand-me-down experience (my dad repowered basically the same mower a couple years ago, the only difference is his is not electric start and mine is) that I have to have an adjustable throttle or the self propelled feature doesn't work (or else you use the transmission and the blade doesn't spin with enough speed/force to cut your grass), and I am having trouble telling whether a motor has an adjustable or fixed throttle. Some sites don't even mention the throttle, they only mention the governor. So my question is, is a mechanical governor a nonadjustable throttle? Do the two even relate to each other, or are they completely separate specs?

Engine 729BT

My 2011 729BT (Briggs) is acting up. Sometimes it starts fine, then other times it just coughs until the battery runs down. All filters are clean, fuel is fresh, etc. Any ideas? Also, is there an easy way to adjust the steering sticks to get my mower to run true and not drift? When I'm running flat out with both sticks full forward, my mower wants to turn slightly.

A John Deere 316 Rescue

Hello Guy's

Six weeks ago, I answered a local Craig's list add in my area that advertised a John Deere 316, 50" Mowing deck, extra floor pan and Power flow bagger attachment $200.00. I called the seller who had it and sight unseen told him that I would take it. I set up a time to get it and travled 120 Miles one way with my truck and Trailer to get it. The seller had no Picture's of it in his add but he told me that it had spent most of it's Life in Florida so the body panel's had some rust on them. That was an Under statement as this Tractor was super rough. I asked if he minded if I checked the engine out. I noticed that it was a later made 316 as it had the Onan P-218 engine in it. I hooked up my Jumper cables and tried to start it, but only the dash light's came on, it's starter would not engage. I did Hear a clicking noise while I had my Jumper's hooked to it and noticed that it's engine hour meter was working and showing to have just 349.2 Hour's on it. I saw where the engine did not have any Oil leaks and also notice that it's steering wheel had the pebble Grain design around the outer edge of it, which told me that it may very well be a Low hour machine. I asked the owner what his best price was on it as he too saw that it would not even turn over and he said that he would Take $75.00 for it. I countered with an offer of $50.00 and he accepted so we Loaded it up. Once I got it home I found a starter wire cut that is why it would not turn over, so I fixed that and it's engine started up and Ran fine. I stripped it to the rolling chassis painted all of it and just got it all back together. it will be for my Son in law I will be delivering it to him this weekend. I painted it's Mowing deck yesterday afternoon and will be placing it under the Tractor this afternoon. it was a Lot of hard work but as it sit's now he has just $632.00 in it total. Here is how it looked and how it turned out I will add Picture's of it later on with it's Mowing deck back under it and the restoration completed. Regards, Hammerdown

The day that I brought it home...

Strange case of evil

Hello all,

I have Bolen 158cc with B&S 10T800 series push lawn mower. Well I used it 6 year before I have noticed that it drop in power and start chocking.

I was sure all is OK (oil, gas, filter) so only things would be bad will be valve problem.

I was right, I have adjusted valves as per specification, put all back together and my engine want to fly. Started like a charm, no problem. Run for about 2-3 minutes during which I have check if all was OK.

Then I decided to change oil. I checked oil amount specification, I got 10w-40 oil and poor into engine. Prior that I have empty out old oil.

All, good. Decided to run baby again.... and I couldn`t turn it. I feel so strong resistance. I couldn`t start engine. Engine has high compression point where wont turn over.

I ask my self... what a heck. Let me check valves setting..., no all OK, springs OK. All is OK. Still can turn baby. Looks like oil pressure is building up and not allowing to engine in order to start.

I should mention that during intake valve removal on the valve I saw small o-ring with spring in side. i have check this part and is called Retainer-Valve. I assume that it was located on the same place as shown on the engine diagram.

So... engine started after adjustments. Engine is not working after oil change? I can turn engine with both hands but not with starter line?

Any idea what is wrong?

Thank you

Where to sharpen blade?

Hi guys, simple question here:

I have a FWD self propelled Craftsman lawnmower (model # 917376395, B&S engine 126T02-1443-B1). Nothing fancy. It's about 2 years old and never been serviced. I decided this year to start learning about it and tuning it up.

I was wondering -- what's the best place to get your blade sharpened and balanced? I'm sure a lot of you do this on your own, but for the sake of understanding my own limitations, I'm just interested in having this done for me.

The blade itself is $20 -- so if the service costs anywhere close to this, it seems like maybe I should just buy a new one. In terms of how much the blade gets beat up on a year to year basis, I don't have a very big property (6280 sq ft, 0.15 acres).

Learning to clean carburetor

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I've spent the season over at snowblower forum, and this is my first year playing with and learning about small engines. Now that I've been learning, I figured I'd try doing some basic stuff on my Craftsman lawn mower (model # 917376395, B&S engine 126T02-1443-B1). I've had it maybe 2 years but never changed the oil or spark plug, drained the fuel, or cleaned the carb (I know, shame on me, but I'm trying to redeem myself now).

So this year after putting the snowblower to sleep, I drained the old gas on the lawnmower, replaced with Sta-bil-ized fuel, and changed the oil with new 5W30. Before all this, the lawn mower would start/stop two or three times or so, before finally starting and staying running. I figured what the heck, I might as well try to learn how to take apart and clean the carb (I am in no way a mechanically inclined person, but I do have YouTube!).

I took the carb out last night and ran wire through and sprayed carb cleaner through every hole I saw. I did not follow with compressed air or let it soak due to limited time. I was more interested in just learning how to take it apart and put it back together. This morning I ran the lawnmower again (~ 30 degrees outside) and it still exhibits some symptoms of starting briefly and then stopping a couple times, before finally staying running. The lawnmower has an auto-choke mechanism, so I have no idea if the carb still is a little dirty or if it's just a matter of being cold.

A couple questions:

I got some Gumout carb/choke cleaner on the carb bowl gasket. I didn't soak it but some of the runoff spray did come in contact with it. Probably a bad idea right? It seems a little more stretched than before.

What about the needle seat? I didn't have a carb tool handy to pull it out so I just ran a fine wire through it and then sprayed carb cleaner through it. Would carb cleaner damage the seat?

I am considering taking the carburetor out and apart again, and then soaking the parts in Pine Sol. Other than the bowl gasket, is there any part I should take out and not soak? Like the needle seat?

Finally, for those that have soaked carbs in Pine Sol, do you use 100% Pine Sol or do you tend to dilute it with water? And how long do you soak?

Also, although the start and immediately stopping symptom seems to be primarily a carb related issue, can this also occur with a fouled spark plug? I ordered a new one anyways, but I was just curious.

Thanks in advance. As you can tell, I have a lot to learn!

New Stihl Ms 251!!

I am really bad at this....

let me start by saying that I am way out of my league on this subject but I'm excited to learn.

I have a 900 series Briggs and Stratton 9.0 engine that has sat out in the weather.

I have changed the spark plug, Cleaned the carb and drained the gas tank.

So many ZTRS im confused

Hi All,

I just bought a 3.6acre block with 2 acres clear and flat and 1.6 hilly terrain small hill ranges to 24 degree slope and larger hill is 20 degree (used a phone app to measure)

I have been looking at mowers for 3 weeks now and am stuck on these models in my price range

Scag Freedom Z - $8500 (Briggs) Pros - Heavy duty looking build, ROPS as standard Cons - Briggs motor, small width (less traction on hills) 48 inch deck

Ferris IS600Z - $8800 (Briggs) - Pros - Hydros, Rops as standard Large width and tyres, 16kmph Cons - Briggs motor, 48inch deck

Hustler Fastrak - $8900 (Kawasaki) Pros - Good build quality can get as 52inch Cons - No ROPS, ZT-3100 hydro

Bobcat Fast Cat Pro - $getting a quote (kawasaki) Pros - Hydros, Large width and tyres, 16kmph Cons - 48inch deck, No ROPS

From what I can work out on my own Bobcat and ferris seem the go as have the best hydro's (Dual Hydro-Gear ZT-3400) proving the highest torq which makes me think it would tackle those hills, Bigger wheels and faster (if that makes any diff)

Apart from that im new to this and this will be my first ride on. suggestions welcome

I can not find a quality pushmower. I bought a quality Snapper two seasons ago and it is junk now. I mow about a half acre and part of it is on a hillside and I have to use a push mower when mowing the hill. I do not like a self-propelled mower, too hard to maneuver when trimming under my trees and bushes. Here is my list of wants in order of importance:

Great looking cut and mulch capability. I do not bag my clippings.

Solid Construction, quality ball bearing wheels and a strong handle that will not break after a season or two. You would not believe how many times I have had to have handles welded and braced to make them last.

Power, good reliable engine with power to mulch and cut.

Thanks,

Rob

What is up with this craftsman weedwacker? I cant get it going to save my life.

Hey guys, so i picked up these 2 weedwackers over the summer (you might remember the thread I posted about them) and I still cannot get them running to save my life. I knew it needed a new carb so I bought one and replaced the lines on it too. Now it wont start. I know it runs because I can get it going off of starting fluid. Its getting gas and priming now but it only runs on full choke. It dies as soon as you move it from full and it wont start on half choke. I posted some pictures of the carb and the lines if it helps. Also I noticed after i tried starting it there was like a brown liquid that smelled to me like gas but looked like motor oil by the spark plug (i know its not because its a 2 stoke) Could that be like a gas and carbon mixture? If you could give me any info that would be awesome. Thanks

So I finally bought a trailer

Sit back and listen to a long screwed up story. After looking and waiting I finally found the exact size I needed at a reasonable price and it was in excellent shape. The seller could only offer a bill of sale. So I checked the TX gov site on the requirements for registration and title. No title necessary on trailers under 4000lb GVW. To register and get plates on a used trailer under 4000lb GVW you need a bill of sale and an old registration. This trailer came from Oklahoma which doesn't require titles or registration on personal utility trailers and the PO had never registered or titled the trailer. I figured there would be no problem getting registration and plates. I was way wrong. The clerk said she had to check with her supervisor on this. She comes back and says I have to get a title. The GVW is 3500lb but their rules (not on the site) say they assume you will be carrying something on the trailer that weighs at least 1/3 of the trailer. That bumps it up over the 4000lb limit. Gotta get a title. There is no previous title or reg so it has to be a bonded title.... about $400.

Have to get an independent insurance appraisal done to establish value... $100-$200. Then have to pay the TT&L. A little over $100 depending on what the appraisal value is.

So... about $600 to $700 to be able to put the trailer on the street legally.

What a load of crap. Especially the "assumed" part which requires a title. That just doesn't make sense. If that's the law then put it on the site. I'm basically screwed.

It's a nice trailer for what I paid. New lights & wiring, new jack, new ramp, not a speck of rust.

Engine LT 1045 repower

Hello all. I have a 6 year old LT1045 with a cracked Kohler SV600. I was looking to replace the engine and was considering the Briggs 33197 Intek. However, the Briggs engine has a 9A alternator compared to the 15A in the Kohler. Would this engine work anyway? If not, does anyone know a good replacement engine other than the original Kohler (I really don't care to pay an extra 300 or so for the same engine when this appears to be a fairly common problem with this engine)? Thanks.

New Scag Owner!

Purchased today. 2013 Turf Tiger. 29hp Kawasaki. Water/liquid cooled. 61 inc cut. <200 hours on the meter. ROPS. It still has about a year's worth of warranty left. $9000.00. I hope I didn't pay too much. Any recommendations?

Need Advice on A Mower Purchase

I find myself with newly acquired 1.5 Acres of lawn to mow and I need the appropriate mower. The lawn is flat and fairly open, (3 trees). I have decided on a zero turn model with the idea of using it around the house also. Here is what I have looked at so far:

A Hustler Fastrak 60"

A John Deere Z445 48"

Going to look at Toro today, I am leaning towards the John Deere but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

Ferris DDSKAV23 Backfire

While cranking over to start this Kawasaki FH680V 23 hp, it lets out a big bang thru the exhaust. On cold start, I use about 1/3 throttle and full choke. After about 8 revolutions, it lets out this big bang from the exhaust ,then starts up in another revolution or 2. Once it is running, it runs great. I don't know if it will hurt itself doing this, but it does scare women, children and livestock. Thank you for any suggestions on fixing my big bang. gregjo1948

Lawn Tonic?

Has anyone had experience with home made lawn tonics or compost tea? The tonic I've read about the most is soda/beer/soap/ammonia/mouthwash sprayed with a 10gallon hose end mix sprayer.

Toro pushmower

Have an older Toro push mower a neighbor dropped off the other day. He said it starts up no problem but if you shut it off after it's warm it's impossible to get started back up until it cools back down. Where do I start my diagnostics. He thought maybe ignition coil. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will post engines numbers soon as I am not home now. Do know it has a Briggs on it. Thanks in advance!

Wanted: Broken Riding Mowers/Parts San Antonio,Tx Area

I'am looking for old non running riding mowers in the San Antonio Area. The mowers that I'am looking for are complete broken units, parts mowers and pieces. I'am looking for all brands of riding mowers. I can be reached at 210-843-9063. I have a large trailer and will pick up all riding mowers that you have. I'am also looking for newer non running units.

Engine over revving

I recently bought a used rer 30,it starts just fine but when you move throttle from choke to run there is no adjustment, it just runs wide open is this a serious problem?

Pro-Turn Lengths are all the Same????

I'm looking at the entry level Pro-Turn and noticed that it looked a little peculiar in that the caster wheels are placed about a foot away from the deck. I contacted the Gravely dealer and he thought that maybe all of the Pro-Turns use the same frame. I checked the specs and yes, all the Pro-Turns from the 48" to the 60" are of the same length. I'm thinking that having the caster wheels so far ahead of the deck will affect its maneuverability. My question is this: Do you see any disadvantage or advantage for having the caster wheels so far from the deck? I looked at some photos posted by jonesandjones and the distance of the caster wheels from the deck do look awkward. Any comments???

Company names

What are some of your guys's lawn care or landscaping company names? How did you come up with them?

Still looking... Encore?

I googled this and like all brands some love them and some say they are junk. Looking at this one. Not knowing a lot about hydros and belt drives so I'm guessing this is a hydro since I don't see any belts like the Toro I had.

New here in Halifax

Hello, new to the site. I have a small collection of mowers that I'm going to be turning into a smaller number of mowers... I have a few with good engines, a few with decks that are turning into orange dust. I intend on making them usable to sell as sort of a hobby. Right now, I mostly have craftsman mowers, a couple of MTDs and a rough Toro Recycler in rough shape but with a solid, although flaked deck. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade so I don't suppose mowers will be too tough for me to figure out. I'll post pics when the snow's gone, we're expecting a big blizzard tomorrow.

All but one of the mower's I've collected from various sources for free since the fall. My handy grey Craftsman was my first gasser, I got it for free when somebody said it wouldn't start after the winter. I turned it on it's side and gave it a few gentle kicks, and it started first pull. I've kept that one for 4 years now trouble free. I'd like to get the old Toro working, but it doesn't look complete, missing the gas cap for one thing and it had been out in the rain before I got it so the tank's had water in it. Who knows what shape it's in, but if the rest checks out I may try to swap engines.

93 Lowes MTD rear tine tiller help

I hauled this out of my Dads yard. It is MTD model 213-430-062 and it says Lowes on it and is blue. It is a rear time tiller with a 5hp Briggs Stratton motor. I had to pull the tank to get the crud out of it and now I'm trying to figure out exactly how the governor and throttle were connected. It has the throttle cable under the tank and a governor spring which I never removed so the loop end is still hanging on the governor. The throttle cable has a slotted plastic end and is held on with a screw that when moved slides a part that when slid all the way contacts the kill wire but it doesn't have any connection to the top where the carb is other than a governor linkage that moves the throttle. So if someone has an old tiller like this maybe they can clear this up or send a pic, you can't even see the governor or the spring connection unless you remove the tank and carb, its tough to work in there cause its so tight. I will try to get some pics tonight. Before I brought it home I sprayed starting fluid in carb and it fired right up for a couple seconds so I know it will run once I get fuel to it but need to figure out these connections. I have searched hours online and some are similar but not exactly like mine.

Pricing commercial lots

I am bidding on a job for a small town. It has 8 differwnt locations. These are the locations and how much I would charge as if they were separate residential lots

Small cemetary...$75

Small historic home $35

Fire station...$35

Rescue squad building ..$35

water tower $40

Boy scout building $30

community building $40

vacant lot...$25

This is my first time bidding and I really would like to get it. I feel I could do these in one day if weather permits. I have time built up at my job so if I need to leave a little early a couple of days out of the week it won't be a problem. During the summer we are off on Fridays. Do I need to quote the numbers listed above or do I need to add in gas, taxes, equipment..etc? Thanks in advance...

If I buy a Raptor instead of a Raptor SD, will I be disappointed?

Hi all, we just bought a new house - the yard is amazing! It is about 1 acre and has about 40 trees to mow around, mostly in the backyard. I've only owned a push mower so looking for my first ZT/riding mower for the yard. I've been looking at the Hustler and it checks out - the price compare to the others is right and it looks to be solid. I'd really love to get the SD, but frankly I've spent all of my money with the house. Sales tax here is 9.25% so the $3000 52" Raptor becomes nearly $3300. The $3900 Raptor SD becomes about $4250. This is the only yard I'll be mowing and my neighbors have told me most of the backyard doesn't grow much grass due to all the shade. If I go with the regular Raptor, will I be disappointed? I'm thinking about the finance option....doing so makes the price difference not as bad, however I have no intentions of having a balance on the loan after 6 months...will pay it off as quickly as possible, even if it's 0%.

Thoughts? Besides the transmission differences, one of the main things I see is the armrests...how important are those on a ZT with an acre yard? From your experience, are the dealers willing to bargain at all? If not on price, by maybe throwing in free service of the mulching kit?

Thanks in advance!

Engine Kohler oil breather/separator leaking

First time post. I am trying to maintain my late Dad's Lazer Z with the Kohler Command Pro 18 (CV18S) engine. It has been leaking oil and looks to be coming from around the oil breather/separator. I suspect that it just needs a new gasket, which I have found.

Just curious if there is anything else that I should pay attention to when I pull the breather off to replace the gasket?

Exmark Lazer Z slow left hydro

I have a 2008 Exmark Lazer Z. I just replaced the left hydro and wheel motor and now the left side barley turns.

Repairs Old Snapper RER Comet Model 306X restoration project

I have an old snapper rear engine rider comet model 306X that I have had for years. I have replaced the original engine with a Tecumseh 10HP electric start about 18 years ago, still runs great. The clutch/brake spring broke yesterday so I am trying to find one of those. I also decided I would go ahead and do a complete restoration while I was at it. I need decals, and it has the deck spindle cover but I really need to replace it too. Does anyone know of a good place to find parts for these old RER Comets from the early days of Snapper? Thanks for any help.

Walk behind 33" cub cadet walk behind 10.5 hp

I have a 33" cub cadet walk behind with the 10.5 hp engine. Wondering if I could attach a valke and some weights on front to stabilize it. Would it still perform well?

Walk behind Need replacement engine

I need to replace the engine on my troy bilt 12av565q711. Do I have to replace it with the Honda that's on there now or can I use a Briggs and Stratton since Troy Bilt uses both? Also have never done this so any advice would be really appreciated.

Hustler X 1 motor on 54"vs. 60"

Good evening,

I have the chance to buy a new Hustler 60" X1 for $150 less than a the same mower in a 54" model. The key point being they both offer the same size Kawasaki FX730 engine My question is directed at the motor. Will this be enough motor for the 60 inch deck? I'd rather have 6 more inches of deck for less money but don't want to have an underpowered mower. Can someone with this motor combination give me some feedback on performance. Is it going to bog down regularly. Would you drop back to the 54" and pay the extra?

Thanks

Solved: grass was not getting into the bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last summer, my grass was not getting into the double bags. It would clog up at the mouth

of the grass tubes.

Just last Friday, I cleaned out both tubes with a wire brush and then wiped them out with

paint thinner.

I then used Glyptal on a small microfiber pad I had and coated the inside of both tubes.

That was Friday (3/21/2014), Today (3/24/2014) I mowed the entire lawn and it worked

beautifully! Gyptal is used to coat electricaL windings. ALL the grass went into the bags.

When I was done mowing, not a blade of grass was inside either tube.

It is called Glyptal 1201 Red Enamel (Insulating Paint).

You can get it cheapest here:

Ex mark Hydro questions

I bought a used Exmark Turf tracer 52 (older model 1998-2000), when buying it I knew it had one wheel that didn't turn at all under hydro power but will roll and move. I need to get this fixed w/out taking to the dealer.

The right side works great and doesn't even leak, the left side is the problem. There is plenty of fluid in the reservoir, all the lines are hooked up. The Left side wheel motor does and has been leaking fluid.

My question is this: Should I replace the wheel motor first and see if that fixes the problem or the Hydraulic pump? On a side note the "free wheel" bolt is all the way in on both pumps.

Does anyone have a cross reference as to what wheel motor fits what, the model # on the current motor is Ross toromotor MF140925AADD, I have seen a lot of similar motors online but they have different numbers.

What type/brand of fluid should I run?

First time 2014

Well I did it. I started mowing today. I started by trimming around the fence and stuff. Echo started on third pull. Tried to crank the Honda but it would not start so tried the Z-turn it ran the battery down. Put charger on the thing and an hour and half later it was running. Made one pass and the front tire went flat. Got that off and aired up and just finished the back yard. Guess tomorrow I will finish the first mow of the season. Then I get to go to town and buy some oil, oil filter, plugs, and air filters and service them all.

John deer 180 stering

My john deer 180 only turns about 2 inches. To the left side the right side turns normal how can I fix this

Mower deck John Deere 345 Deck Throwing Grass over operator.

I have a JD 345 with a 54" deck I believe. Every time I mow, it cover,s the machine as well as me in dust and grass. When I bought it new it had a metal piece with a rubber insert on the bottom of the deck , up near the front. The rubber piece wore off in a couple mowings and I never replace the rubber . Well the metal under the mower hits on roots sometimes . So I removed it and now I get covered in trash . I tried gator blades and no luck so I went back to the original blades. I really don,t think that taking off the metal piece had anything to do with all the dust and grass because it was doing the same when it was still on . I have checked the blades to see if they were on backwords but they were fine. Any idea what could be the problem? You cannot mow over 5 minutes without having to clean out the radiator screen it is that bad. Thanks for any help Darrel
