JD 415 Yanmar deisel fuel issues

Got a JD 415 powere by a Yanmar 3007D002 3 cyl deisel stuck in a customers paddock.

Deisels are not my forte but I can generally stumble my way through.

Now I am not getting any fuel flow to the pump , at the pump and sifting throught the parts book do not see a lift motor.

So am I correct in assuming the fuel pump is a two stage unit ?

I also could not see any manual priming pump, do they have one ?

Cracked the injectors and only get bubbles so am assuming a lift pump fault.

Customer says he was mowing & it just cut out.

Fuel bowl is full clean & has no water visible.

This mower is not in a well maintained state there was 3" of dust all over the printed circuit board but removal made little difference.

The glow plug light goes out after about 10 sec, is this normal for one of these & the plugs them selves do not get warm to the touch at the terminal end . I am used to plugs that get quite warm if repeatedly turned on .

I would like to get it running at least well enough to get it out of the paddock and the hydraulic lift mowing deck out , Gees these are heavy.

Any idea where I could lay my hands on a wiring diagram & or fuel flow diagram ?

Thanks

HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to everyone !!!!!!!

I'm a new member but I work on a lot of small engine equipment and sell a lot of used (and some new ) parts. Lawn mower forum is a great site. My parts business is a side job for me right now but I'm working on going full time soon. Hopefully I can check in fairly often and maybe even help some people with there troubleshooting or parts. Just wanted to say HI to every one and thanks for having me.

walker dies out

I just bought a 2003 md walker.it ran fine for a month but now dies out now and then when mowing.everything just stops can restart straight away sometimes or have to wait a few second.when it did it yesterday lost power to dash and ghs chute stopped oscillating.all help much appreciated.

New member and ventage 1950's Lawn Boy Collector,

I will try to post pic's soon of 3 1950's Lawn-Boy mowers. I sold a large collection 10 years ago but kept 3 of my favorite year machines that are unrestored that I was going to do a complete restore. I had a accident in 2008 and damaged my spinal cord so it is unpractical for me to restore the mowers. Being a incomplete quadriplegic I am unable to push a mower any more. I have the parts to zero time the engines to new condition and hope I can sell the mowers to a true collector that is capable of finishing the projects.

Briggs and Stratton no oil change

Its about time that a manufacture came out with this idea. I have seen it many times a person buys a mower and never changes the oil. I can see this coming more all the time with the newer synthetic oils coming out. They say the engine runs cooler so the oil doesn't break down, time will tell??

600 vs 700 series

looking to by a used grasshopper and would like some input whether i should go for 600 series or 700 series. i want a 52" deck and have about 1.5 acres. also would like to know what is considered high hours. i have a chance to buy a 2000 720 with 2015 hrs or a 2004 618 with 598 hrs. the 720 has a grass catcher and i could get it for $3000. the 618 is in better condition but only comes with the metal grass hopper and tube for $3500. both have 52" decks and both have kohler. the 618 has almost new kohler command 19 h and the other is 20 h just rebuilt.

3.75 HP Briggs Label Kit

Does anyone know if B&S has a label kit for the 3.75HP engine (Model 9B902-1652 E1) like they seem to for other models? I'm rebuilding a power-washer which has heavy surface corrosion everywhere, and the labels are pretty gnarly too. I really don't want to put erroneous 3.5HP or 4.0HP labels on, and I'm not a good free hand painter either.

Thanks,

What's the best barter you've made on small engines?

I'll start this one off.

I had a guy call me and tell me he had a Troy-Bilt Weedeater that he and his brother tried to fix (Words that make me laugh, kind of like "It ran great 4 years ago, the last time we used it"). Anyway, this guy said "Just come get it, it's yours."

I go to his house and he left it of the front porch with a bag tied to it.. Uh-oh me thinks..

I got it home and looked in the bag and it was all the plastic parts that covered the engine. I put them all on and had to dig through my parts stash and find one screw.. Put fresh gas it it and it ran great.

The next day, a guy calls me, he ran a house cleaning business on foreclosed homes.. He had 2 4000kw generators, one fairly new, one old Tecumseh.. Had 3 Toro mowers, 3 weed eaters, a compressor (Never got that working) and a chainsaw.. I was seriously doubting I'd be able to come up with enough cash for this deal but, I asked him what he wanted..

He said "I want a good weed eater.."

An hour later I had my pickup truck and my 4x8 trailer overflowing with new goodies..

Sold the newer generator after putting gas in it and locating the fuel shutoff (He didn't even know it had one) and it ran like a champ..

Kept the other 4kw for my mobile van.. Gave the compressor tank to my buddy for a fuel cell for one of his custom cars, sold two of the mowers for $100 each, the weed eaters needed some work but, I think I might have put $20 in parts in them and rebuilt the carbs, all sold for $65 each..Still have other stuff left over for parts..

If I can find a couple of deals like that, I'll be in the plus column every week..

Grass seed

We drove trucks around our backyard again while doing construction this fall, and now my yard is a mud pit. I'm going to buy a giant bag of grass seed as soon as the ground thaws. Does anyone have any tips as to how to help it grow quickly? My main concern is that I have 5 dogs who run around out there, and I guess I'm afraid the seeds won't take if they're trampled alot, but I have zero experience growing grass LOL

MS-280 Parts/Service

Does anybody have a parts breakdown for the MS-280. Trying to analyze the easy start mechanism.

For future reference, would like it for the whole machine

Greetings from Michigan!

Hello, I joined this forum a couple weeks ago when doing some maintenance on my snow blower. I wasn't planning on sticking around, but then I stumbled on hanyoukimura's mower repair thread. Wow- talk about bringing back memories. I used to repair and sell mowers when I was a teenager, so I could really relate.

So it has inspired me to work on a few machines I have around here:

- 80's Toro S-200: Replaced the directional vanes, back cover & choke assembly, belt, tensioner, and a few other odds n' ends

- 90's Craftsman RWD mower: Deck was rotting out so I replaced it with one from mower where pretty much everything was ruined, except the deck

- 77 Gilson / Montgomery ward snowblower: This is the vertical shaft model and I decided to swap out the engine with a Quantum. Works! Too bad the machine's design isn't better, lol.

- 89 Meijer mower: I've actually used this one almost since it was new. Parents bought it in '90 and I rebuilt it around 2000. It's in need of some loving now, so I'm basically restoring the thing.

I have a few other things I'm going to work on (namely a planet Jr two wheel tractor), but I'll probably do it in the spring.

There is one thing I have been running into though- I am noticing that it's difficult to determine what decal sets are for each Briggs & Stratton engine. Everything seems to show up as "KIT-LABEL" and most sites don't have pictures or a description of what they are for. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find the decal sets I need?

-Robert

Charging circuit

Just bought a 52" Great Dane Super Surfer with a 23 HP Kawasaki motor. There appears to be no difference in Battery voltage before the engine is started and after it is started. The voltage should increase if the alternator is running, I presume.

Any tips ??

Snapper Downunder

Picked up this Snapper by accident on Evil-bay for $300au

She runs and mows!

Snappers seem pretty rare here, obviously someone must have imported them here in the past.

Its a Model 28113S, Series 3 1980?

Re-powered with a Tecumseh 12.5HP

Disk drive as a Stens sticker?

Motor compression tested at 100psi which is good I think? It needed a new ignition coil, the 36344 doesn't fit!

awaiting a 35135?

Needs a new muffler and pipe, can anyone suggest a replacement?

Needs new shaft boots and blade. It has a John Deere steering wheel and shaft welded on!:confused2:

Nice Bluegrass lawn, but two patches of different grass (longer, lighter green)

With thanks to the posts here, the 2,000 sq. ft. front lawn is fine, except for two areas approximately one sq. ft. each. The Bluegrass in these two areas has been overgrown or replaced by grass which grows faster, has a broader leaf, and much lighter green. Vaguely recall that there's a grass which is temporary during winter and fall.

What to do about this ? Dig it up and reseed ?

Pressure washer spray tips

Does anyone know if the K舐cher 4000g pressure washer came with any type of spray tips for the wand, or any other accessories? If so, what did it come with?

I have a copy of the parts manual and don't see any extras that may have come with it, but the plastic handle has grooves that to me, seem to be to put extra tips in for storage.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Howdy from East Tennessee

I stumbled on this forum researching all kinds of small tractor/big lawn tractor type stuff. I have got into this a year or so ago looking for small capable tractor to help keep up my 6 1/2 acre patch of ground. Do a little gardening, 1/4 mile of gravel driveway up keep....and in the last week or so of terrible weather some tree dragging from ice storm and snow damage. I actually found this site from researching a MTD tractor I saw on a LSN sale website. TractorData only listed one late model so I googled it wound up here.

Before my new bad habit started I only had a Cub Cadet LT1046k. Oh and Dad`s original Snappin` Turtle from the 50`s-60`s. Now I have Shibaura 14/1400 , Ford 1500 4wd, a Gravely Li walk behind with sickle, tiller, blade, a Case 444 Demonstrator, Case 446 and a`41 Farmall Model A. I really don`t know what I`m doing with all this but hope to eventually trade around to my final needs for my Patch. Not sure what that is yet. I`m thinking I could do what I need to do with something along the lines of 1200-1700 Ford with a loader.

But I love learning about all this stuff I never realized was even made . Never knew there was so many different LT/GT and compacts made.

Kind of surprised there was no Case Forum here though....very popular up in the snow country.

Looking forward to spending some time here and maybe contributing a little bit!

Swap blown kohler for briggs??

Not too worried about it bolting up. I can drill holes if needed. What other complications have you guys run into doing these type of swaps.

Psyched owner of a new MZ52

This site helped me make the decision between a Hustler Raptor SD and my new MZ52 (Kawi / Fab Deck). Thanks for that.

I'm VERY fortunate to have a great dealer near me who was able to work with his rep to hunt down and secure exactly what I was looking for at a great price.

For a little while I was really bummed that I'd have to settle for a MZ52 w/ Kohler or the Hustler RSD (w/ Kawi). Kohler may be as good or better but my mind was set on the Kawi.

I liked the RSD but felt the MZ52 was just a little heavier duty in the right places.

Can't wait to pick it up and blow some grass.

Troy-Bilt with Kohler won't stay primed

I have to pour a little gas in the carburetor to get it started. After it starts it is fine. It will run. If I turn it off and start it back up within 10 minutes or so it will start. If it sits longer than that it will not start. It's a Troy-bilt Super Bronco Hydrostatic with the Kohler KT735 engine.

Snowking 8/27 rough running

Good morning!

My snow king has a HMSK 80 engine on it and it was running rough. It was not a smooth idle. The plug was getting black pretty quick. I bought it that way thinking I would just buy a new carburator, and the price was a real deal. New carb. and same thing. I'm now at the point it will only run on the primed gas. I started taking it apart to check valves and other things and this is the first "problem" I saw:

magneto rust.jpg Is this a good indication of running poorly? I took my wire wheel to it and cleaned it up.

After I took the head off, my unexperienced eye thought the valves and piston look to be hardly used. piston top.jpg

Any opinions and direction appreciated.

Hi from Melbourne!

Hello everybody!

My name is Chloe, and I am very excited to join this amazing forum. I live in Melbourne, Australia, which I guess is on the other side of the world for most of you, but I would still be very happy if I meet someone from my side of the planet in here. I am a very energetic person, who loves spending time outdoors and working on different projects, which keep me busy. I also really like taking care of different plants. I find it amazing how life grows from almost nothing. I guess these things are the reasons why after I graduated college, I decided to become a landscape gardener. Shaping the outlook of an outdoor area brings me lots of joy. Most people around me always complain about how tiring and stressful their jobs are, but I never got to experience such things by myself, fortunately. My job is my passion, which means that I am completely devoted to it, so there is no chance I could feel stress while doing what I do. I hope I can find more people like me in here, who are passionate to achieve their dreams and not afraid to take risks. Well, I think that's enough for now. Hope to meet you all soon,

Chloe

LT133 shifting hard (5spd)

Hi everybody,

Total newb here, looking for help. Thanks in advance.

My Dana/Spicer 4360 105 5spd is shifting stiff. It was shifting fine when I parked it last fall. Mowed for the first time a couple days ago, now it's super stiff putting in various gears. Disconnected linkage, linkage is fine. Before I pull the transaxle and pull the cases apart I thought I might get on here in case all of you have some sage advice. It's a sealed unit, but is it rebuildable? Again, thanks in advance.

17 HP kohler with broken rod. Worth rebuilding??

Just picked up a toro zero turn with a kohler CV492s. Has a broken connecting rod. Took it apart and found that the cam was broken in half and the rod took out a piece of the cylinder wall at the bottom. Im thinking it could be rebuildable. The rings dont go that far down and it just knocked that out, no cracking up the cylinder wall. Anyone ever do any rebuild like this? Curious how others have handled this. Thanks

Honda HR-21 Restoration

I'm restoring an early 1980s Honda HR-21 mower. Last weekend I was sanding the deck to paint it, and it occurred to me that this aluminum might polish up nicely. I have a 1962 Airstream camper that I polish regularly, so I've got lots of practice doing that. So I spent a couple of hours cleaning it up and polishing the deck. It's not a great job, but I figure that a good job may take around 20 hours. It is definitely not worth spending that kind of time on. I was hoping that some of you folks who are passionate about mowers would give me your opinion. Does this just look stupid, or is it kind of cool? Should I just go ahead and paint it silver like it originally was, or spray a clear coat on it like it is now to keep it from corroding?

Any ideas what may cause this or have anything to try?? Appreciate any input you might have. Thanks!!

Oil shooting into my carb

I have a Kohler "courage" 20 hp on a Husquavarna mower. After running for about 2 minutes, oil shoots through my carb, blue smoke emits from exhaust and it shuts down. Engine john deere 160 starts to surge after 20 min and then stalls

I have a 1985 JD160 lawn tractor that will run for 20 min or so and then starts to surge (sort of like when a load is put on a generator). At first it keeps running and surging just slightly, but eventually it will stall out completely. When this happens I can get it started by putting the throttle in choke but to keep it running I have to move the throttle all the way down to full slow. This is happening wiith the plow blade on and the deck off. I have taken it in for repair once and they have not been able to fix it.

new head is smoking

my machine is in a carpet cleaning van. drives a pump and blower. changed out the left head. motor has never run better, but it disburses an occasional cloud of oily smoke. went back to the fellow that changed it out and he replaced the gasket. still puffing out oil. it winds up on the floor of the van, and kind of a lot of oil.

the unit is a kohler commander 20. probably at least 10 years old. i bought it used so i am unsure or how old it is. when it was replaced there was a clearly evident divot in the outside edge of the old one. does not appear to be a crack in the cover.

any comments will be deeply appreciated.

Heavily worn pushrod.... bad guide plate?

20 hp briggs intec gold (31c707)

During a tear down of my motor to replace a cam, I discovered the aluminum pushrod (intake side) was worn A LOT about an inch from the end. I am guessing the push rod is wearing against the guide plate? Do guide plates go bad? or do I have another issue that needs to be addressed? thanks for any input?

Repairs Husqvarna 125L Starter Repair, need some help please :(

Hey Guys,

I have a Husqvarna 125L line trimmer (aka weed wacker, whipper snipper etc..) that I was trying to repair (starting issues) though as I was pull starting it, the starter assembly 9with the pull cord) popped off due to a broken screw. As a result, the Starter Cup Assembly came apart, but I'm not sure how to put it back together, I can't seem to find a diagram & am not sure of what pieces are required. Is anyone familiar with this part/trimmer or anyone have an idea how to get it back together?

Purchasing a new one isn't really an option as the cost I can probably buy a used working trimmer, I might only really be just after the white clips that connect into it (maybe.

Hope you guys can help :)

Thanks,

I'm here and not on a deere

Hello everyone I am a 16 yo who has recently picked up some lawn service skills by my dad. I work with him and my grandpa in the business. I have recently taken an intrest in mowers. I have been around them all of my life and I have done some minor stuff blade changes, oil, fuel filter, deck removal, and more. The mowers we have are poulan pro with the briggs and straton engines. I like Massey Ferguson and ram trucks:thumbsup:.

TRIMMER HANDLE EXTENSION for tall operators - how to solve?

Is there a trick to using these trimmers if you're 6'4"? Just wondering if there is a longer handle or maybe a longer shaft to the head. Any ideas out there? My back hurts after using my Shindaiwa T231 for an hour and I wish there was a way to keep it at the lower angle without stooping over...

26 HP 917.273323 Popped clutch!

I have a 917.273323 50" and I usually leave it at hi on the throttle and let out the clutch in neutral and then operate the speed with the right hand lever---my wife on the other hand leaves the right hand forward all the way and stops and starts by pushing the clutch in an out with her left foot. Well she turned it off in that position and I later started it and when I let out on the clutch (popped the clutch) I think I may have hurt the tractors ability to run---it will start----but it will not go forward or in reverse. Did I break the transmission or a gear in there?

Hey

Impact to Cylinder Head Cover While Running - Backfired to a halt, now won't start

Hello All,

I very stupidly slammed my couple year old Craftsman 917.370950 mower into the fascia/front board of my deck this afternoon. I was using the self-propelled feature which suddenly caught traction while I was simultaneously pushing forward. No one to blame but myself. :ashamed:

Anyway, it seems the cylinder head cover (labeled DHC - it's a Honda engine) took the brunt of it, and is dented in perhaps 1/8 of an inch, maybe more. The mower backfired and died instantly on impact. If I try to start it now it just backfires loudly. Did I destroy my engine? I can't imagine there is a lot of extra room in there for a big dent to not horribly damage things, but is there anything else I should check first before taking the the engine apart?

Thanks in advance.

Spring question

No, I don't mean the season. I mean like a spring. Like a compression spring.

I have a Black and Decker Wizard rotary tool. Inside, the spindle is connected to the motor by means of a spring and 2 cogs (for lack of the correct word). The spring broke. It's a short little spring. It's a little under 5/8" in length and just under 3/8" outside diameter. The special thing about this spring is that each end is bent in such a way that it crosses the center point of the inside diameter, if that makes sense. The "cogs" are "forked" at one end and this forked part slips over the bent ends of the spring. This entire assembly forms a coupling. The other ends of the cogs fit into corresponding slots of the motor and the spindle.

Anyways, this spring is no longer available from Black and Decker. I can either try and modify some other spring I either have or can purchase that is close in size to what I need or I can try and make my own spring (instructions on the Internet). First, I want to see if I can find something that might work.

What I'm having trouble with is identifying the name of the "end" configuration of this spring so I can do an effective search for one. It's a compression spring. That part is known. They further describe compression springs by the way the ends are finished. There is "open" end and "closed" end. There is "open ground" and "closed ground". Something like that. None of those end configurations is what I have. I'm hoping someone here might know what to call it. I'm going to try and attach a picture so you can see what I mean.

In the first picture, the part on the left is the cog with the fork in the end that fits over the end wire of the spring. The second pic shows the forked end of the cog fitted over the bent end of the spring and the other half of the broken spring fitted onto the cog in the spindle. Thanks.

I was going to start out with just a walk behind. toro time master 30" commercial mower but after buying my 16 foot long trailer i am thinking i need a riding mower to go with it : )

The real reason i want a riding mower is because i think it will open the door to some larger properties. I am a landscaper/sprinkler guy/salesman but i want to get into mowing so that i might be able to lock in customers and get some more steady work right off the bat. here is the mower i was looking at. the price is the main attraction at $2600.00 us.

Honda hrg536c5 service manual

Fastrak deck changes?

Looking at possibly purchasing a 54" Fastrack for just over 1 acre tall fine fescue, sloped property. Have been trying to compare deck mowing qualities, as I typically mulch and mow every 4 days. Was looking between a Scag with a velocity deck (more money than want to spend) or a Hustler. Thought I was sold on a Fastrak, but now questioning a Raptor but like the wider base of the Fastrak for the slopes. Local dealer pulled a new old stock 2012 Fastrak out of warehouse and shot me a price 1200 cheaper than 2015 model but said the deck on the 2015 was newer design, (taller) as well as the minor changes that were obvious between the units. Any input on the cutting performance between these decks? I do not like to leave trails or clumps, shooting for that manicured look I got with my old Toro Commercial.

What year is it?

How do you determine the year of a Simplicity 7016H?

I miss mowing :(

This winter is really starting to get to me...

The mowing season ended pretty early where I am at, I think I mowed my last lawn towards the end of October. Usually the last lawn gets mowed around the middle to end of November.

It is now getting close to the end of February and I feel like I'm gonna go nuts. I miss the sound of the lawn mower and the smell of freshly cut grass along with the smell of the gas burning. Snow removal gets old really fast to me. Lawn mowing never does.

It just seems like an addiction, lol . I love cutting grass. It has never gotten old and I've been doing it for 5 years now. I just can't wait for spring to start again.

Introduction

I got an alert to introduce myself, so here it is. I live in Buffalo, Wyoming. I found this forum while researching a Honda HR-21 that I'm rebuilding. The serial number suggests it was built somewhere between 1980 and 1984. It is a sweet mower, much better built than any other mower I've ever seen. It was given to me about 20 years ago with a bad head gasket. It's been sitting in the garage ever since. My old Toro is about worn out, and I don't like the newer mowers, so I figured I'd fix this one up. I've also got an old 1980ish John Deere 111 riding mower. I don't use it much because it bogs down badly. I have to go really slow to make it work. I'll rebuild it someday. Additionally, I've got a Kubota BX-2200. I don't have a mower deck for it, but I'd like to get one. They're pretty rare in this part of the world. If anyone has one sitting around that they're not using......

I'll probably be looking for advice occasionally.

I almost forgot. I've also got a Swisher 60" Trail Mower that I pull behind an ATV to keep the weeds down in the pasture.

Keeps coming

Here we are coming into the last of February. We just had another snow storm last night and its still going strong this morning. This is my first year of cleaning out my driveway with my ATV and a plow. I was working at it this morning and its getting to the point the piles of snow are getting so deep I can't do anything with the snow anymore. I find with the plow that when I keep packing the snow into a snow bank that after so much the pile turns into a solid wall of ice and snow which can't be moved. I guess I will have to just get the old snow blower out and really move some snow. The only thing I don't like about the snow blower it uses a lot more fuel then the ATV and plow.

Ariens 1336 Questions

Hi All

I am new to the blower world (never owned one before but used them for years). I just bought a new home (moved out of the city finally) and got my hands on a 6 year old 1336, and if anyone asks I am not compensating (look at my driveway below). Only took me about 90 minutes. Anyways, I am trying to confirm if the Friction Plate that raises to come into contact with the disk is supposed to rise up or tilt. Mine seems to tilt. I had an issue with the drive no engaging so I adjusted the wire and all seems well but when I had the cover off my Dad mentioned it seemed odd that the plate seemed to Tile and not just rise up. Which is right??

Bronco mower not starting

I have a 2012 bronco that I'm having issues with. It will not turn over at all at the ignition, but will turn over slightly while jumping the solenoid... or the starter. The starter usually makes one attempt to turn then it binds. Any ideas anybody?

Craftsman 917256543 transaxle blew

Is my problem the park Plug Gap? Mower manual says .040, engine manual says .030.

I have a fixer upper YTH2348 Husqvarna mower (Model 960430035 00 - Serial 120806B002718). It is powered by a Briggs and Stratton Intek 23 HP engine (Model 445577 - Type 0755 E1 - Code 061117YG).

It sat at a friend's house for a couple of years with a rusted out deck, oil leak, and flat tires. He replaced with a Zero Turn Snapper and gave the Husqvarna to me.

The Husqvarna manual I downloaded reads that the spark plug gap is to be .040"; the B&S manual I downloaded says .030"; the old ones I replaced had a gap that when measured was .026". Go figure. Which is right? Could they be too close?

Both call for the Champion QC12YC, which I think is an "Electromagnetic Suppression (EMS)", whatever that means....

Anyhow, I am having trouble. I fixed the oil leak, just replaced the quick change plug with a standard nipple and plug. The thing cranked and ran like a sewing machine. I put another deck and tires on it from a donor machine I bought off Craig's List. However I have a problem with the machine shutting down after about 15 minutes of mowing.

I replaced the paper and the foam air filter, fuel filter, the fuel line from shut off valve to fuel filter to fuel pump, and the spark plugs. I took the machine and drove it around and mowed a little around neighbor's grape vines, doing fine, but, yes, it seems a little underpowered, even when cold.

Yesterday, while cutting in another yard, it resumed same patterns. Again, it also seems a little underpowered even when cold. I could delay it a little by pulling the choke partially out, but that helped only for a few seconds.

throttle speed

My Toro mower has single speed throttle but for some reason it seems to have dropped down to a lower speed.

I think it happened when mowing around a bush. Could the throttle cable have gotten caught somehow and become

out of adjustment for the correct speed? How do I adjust back to the correct speed?

Engine Cub Cadet LT1024 - Trouble cranking

When I bought a used LT1024, it initially hesitated to turn over but I thought the battery was just weak since it was a cold day and the tractor hadn't been used since the summer. I've only had it start once since then. Flywheel makes 1-3 revolutions but seems to be too much pressure to keep it turning. Voltage at battery and solenoids reads 12.5. After I adjusted the valve gaps to .004 it seems to make a few more revolutions but now I hear air releasing on each revolution. I also tried to jump the starter but it still only turns 1 - 3 revolutions. Thoughts?

Strange lawnmower issue

I have a 10yr old Craftsman push lawn mower (model #917.377091) with a 6.5hp B&S engine that I haven't used in 3 months. Pulled it out yesterday and put some clean gas in it. After a few pulls, it cranked up and I was able to mow the front, sides, and a few rows in the back yard. I noticed it didn't seem to be running a full speed and would not fill up the bag with shavings (I had to run it in mulch mode). Even then it would occasionally stall unless I tilted the front up. I let it sit for about 20 mins and then when I started it, it would run very rough (like it was misfiring) - even when idling on concrete. I decided before doing the remainder of the back yard to replace the spark plug (it was still the original) and air filter (it was filthy), but the condition was the same (i.e., running rough). The strange thing is if I tilt the mower up it sounds perfect. As soon as I lower it, the rough sounds return. And as soon as I start mowing it stalls before cutting hardly any grass. I checked the fuel line and gas tank, but there are no obstructions. I took the air filter compartment off and intake on the carb looked good. I took the carb casing off and the float&hinge look good and I didn't see any debris. I also tried starting without the gas cap off, but same issue. Any ideas? I haven't taken the carb completely off to insepct it thoroughly (only the casing), so I'm wondering if there may be something else. It's just strange that if I tilt the mower's frot off the ground about 45-degree angle it sounds great (no rough noise, more RPMs - perfect), but as soon as I lower it, the issue comes right back. Like there's a leveling issue of some sort??? Thanks.
