Hello, my name is Don, from Eastern PA., and this is my intro post. I presently have two Craftsman Riding mowers, and just picked up a Cub Cadet 1864, that isn't running, which is one of the reasons I signed up for this forum, since I am not at all familiar with Cubs. I hope I'll be able to pick some brains here for some info. Thanks for acceptinge into your group!

Riding Mower Blades

Hello Folks,

Quick question regarding blade replacement for my 46-inch Craftsman riding mower......I'm poking around e-bay and found a set of blades from a company named: AYP. I am wondering how decent these blades are compared to the sears OEM blades. Anyone ever try the AYP aftermarkets? Do they hold up as good as OEM? In my situation they are half the cost.

Any information is appreciated!

Small time...

I'm new to the lawn care business, started last year with a handful of clients and have 2 commercial and about 12 residential. I know I might be in the need of more equipment soon as I am using consumer grade craftsman products! They are good I must say, never let me down but I know a few commercial properties I was looking into signing a contract with required me to have a commercial mower! I didn't want to shell out the cash yet if my clients are happy and I am as to this is a just a side job for me! I make decent money on my night job just doing this to past time with something I love, GRASS, MONEY! (Giggles)

I'm not sure of brands and what I need to look for or stay away from any advice! Thanks in advance! ;)

Briggs Quantum shaft diameter

I recently acquired a free Troy-Bilt 21" mulching mower. It is missing the blade, adapter, and bolt. My question is, are all the shafts on these Briggs Quantum engines the same diameter? This one is 1". Lowe's sell a MTD adapter kit for 6 bucks, but I'm not sure it would fit...

Need new engine

I have a Craftsman "Turbo Twin" 42" Riding Mower (Model #917.270968). It has a Briggs and Stratton motor (Model # 461707-0145-E1) that is toast (crankshaft). I would just like to find a replacement motor that would fit on the Craftsman chassis. Any ideas what might fit or where I can find information regarding replacement motors for this mower?

Murray Weedeater Won't Start

Okay, so I have a 2013 M2500 Murray Weedeater 41ADZ01C758. I have cleaned carb, gaskets and jets look good. Have changed fuel mixture, and lines/primer bulb and such are fine. Have also replaced with known good spark plug. Guy said it was working fine one day with no troubles, and then just wouldn't start the next. Just for the experience, I decided to dismantle entire thing, to check spark plug line and the shutoff wire inside the unit. However, I am stuck at the clutch assembly. I cannot get the piece apart. Is there a screw in there or is it supposed to pop off? Also any other ideas are welcome

Need Buying Advice: 42' deck - Cub vs Husky

Hi everyone,

I'm down to a decision between the YTH22v42 Husqvarna and the XT2 42 inch by Cub Cadet.

As of now, it seems like a toss up.

The Husky seems to have a better deck (since it's reinforced) and the Cub Cadet seems to be more user-friendly in terms of routine maintenance (something I'd like to start doing on my own to save $. The cost of both is identical.

Thoughts or opinions?

Troy Built Mustang RZT built 2007 Hesitates to go forward

I have a question regarding my 2007 Troy Built Mustang RZT: I have tried researching why my mower hesitates to go forward when I push both levers at the same time? I have noticed that sometimes it will move forward if I move the levers slower forward and will go faster over time. I just want to know if there is something I need to check or adjust before we get into summer?

Surging When Hot - Replaced Carb, Plug, Coil, Air Filter - Video & Pictures

Hi Folks.

So when my Lawnboy model #10627 gets hot it starts surging. Here is a video of it.

http://ift.tt/1UX1Dg2

Here are some pictures of it.

I have replaced the carburator, have good fuel, and good fuel flow.

I have replaced the coil and plug and air filter.

I have tried running it with the gas cap very loose (so no vacuum).

Suggestions? Could it be a auto choke?

Thanks for your advice.

Messed up low idle adjustment

Kohler Courage SV610-0212. New Spark Plug set to recommended gap, Fresh Oil, Oil Filter, New Air Filters, Running rough. I adjusted the low idel screw and got it running smoother, but wanted to set the low idle speed to 1500 rpm. got a no-contact digital tachometer, and it registered high. I turned the screw further clockwise, and egning is running rough at all speeds again. I did not hae enough weight to put in the seat while I turned the adjustment screw. Is there a starting point that I should turn the screw to, such as midway between the stops, in order to be able to set it properly, or should I just follow the instructions in the repair manual, which I have downloaded to my computer?

Cub Cadet-Engine Racing

Hello!
Just had a troubleshooting question for a cub cadet 760 33 inch walk behind. Non-electric start.

I noticed when mowing yesterday that the engine started racing out of nowhere. Even when I cut back the throttle the engine remained the same intensity.
What could this be? Linkage issue? The engine would calm down when I engaged the blade but when I let go of the blade the engine revved up. I just continued cutting the grass for another 5 minutes or so because I was afraid of hurting the engine. No odd smell or smoke either. Just had it serviced a few weeks ago (changed oil, new spark plug, etc.).

Thanks!

RZT 50 and RZT 42 Left Hydro Gear Compatibility?

Howdy all. Recently picked up these 2 mowers to repair and flip  The 50 had the left hydro removed and partially disassembled, the 42 has a blown 17hp Briggs. So I checked Cub Cadets and this is what I determined. First here's the model numbers RZT 50 17BA5A7P712. RZT 42 17BA5A4G709
According to Cub's parts website the RZT 50 left hydro part number is 759-04144. The RZT 42 left hydro is part number 759-14142. All the same except the last digit. Next I checked the left side Hydro Gear part numbers that are on the tags on each mower. Which are both the same ZA-DFBB-3D7C-2DEB. Hmm. Very interesting. So I'm thinking that the hydros are interchangeable according to Hydro Gear but not Cub because of the different part numbers. Anybody know the difference or if this can be done? Thanks again

New member, Hello

Recently retired and looking forward to cleaning up a couple of pieces of equipment. One is a Dixie Chopper x 2002 and the other a old wheel horse. Long ago, I hate to admit, the seat safety switch quit working on the chopper. Mower kept running when you got off the seat. Appears wires came loose. Anyway need to re-wire and am not smart enough to understand wiring diagrams on line. Any "stick man" drawings out there to show what wire goes where? Thanks, JF

Kohler CV730S-0029 Nikki Carburetor Problem

Howdy all. 25HP Kohler in a Craftsman GT5000 rider. This mower had been sitting a couple of years before I bought it. This is what I did before attempting to start engine, removed air filter, removed plugs and verified spark on both sides, noticed plugs where very a dark brown, checked compression, 165 psi + on both sides, put a gallon of gas with 1 oz of seam foam in tank and fired her up. Started within 5 or so seconds with choke on. Pushed choke back in and let her idle for a few minutes. After warming up I took her for at test drive. Started surging right away and had to keep the choke about 1/2 way to keep it running. At this time I sprayed carb cleaner all around intake and carb to determine an intake leak and found none. Removed Nikki Carb and disassembled, it wasn't all gunked up and pretty clean looking. Went ahead with cleaning all the passages with small copper wire, carb cleaner and compressed air. Reassembled, installed and another test run. Started easy enough, and no surging this time. However, from idle to full throttle it bogged the engine down, like to much fuel. At this time I verified that the choke was operating properly and ruled that out. I had my son go from idle to full throttle while I watched the carb. I can see gas vapor coming out the carb intake while doing this. Definitely to much in my opinion. If I slowly increase throttle from idle to full it won't bog down and seems to run good. Also when I engage the PTO at full throttle it will bog the engine down and die, but if I engage it at half throttle and slowly increase throttle to full it'll keep running and mow like it should. If anyone can point me in the right direction to fix this problem, please do. Thanks again ya'll

Advice on $5k ZTR - Kubota, JD, or Scag

I have an almost 2 acre lot and looking to get a new ZTR mower to replace my 11 year old JD LT120 lawn tractor. I borrowed my nephews Scag Cheetah while my tractor was in for service and cut my mowing time in half. My lot is sodded thick Bermuda open and level with an acre of open coastal Bermuda grass. I have narrowed my choices to these mowers because of the dealers that are close to me. I want a mower that will last me 15 years.

John Deere Z540m $4900
FS 730 engine 54” deck
The JD Dealer is 5 minutes from my house and great to work with. I’ve bought several tools from them and they have serviced my old mower. They are bringing a demo to me to use.

Kubota Kommander Z121s $5000
48”
21HP Kubota engine, not sure what it is.
Hydro-Gear ZT-3100

Dealer is about 15 minutes from me and also carries Scag, never used them but are a big dealer with several locations.

Scag Freedom z 52” $5200 or Scag Liberty z 52” $4500
Both come with same Kohler 7000 and Hydro-Gear ZT-2800

Also considered a Gravely but the dealer is across town in traffic, about 45 minutes away. Don't really want to use them when I can take a back county road to these other dealers unless the mower is that much better.

New to this Forum

My name is Chris and I am new to the B&S forum. I have a Craftsman 21 Hp mower about 7 years old. Recently experienced major popping and erratic running. Realized one of the pivot posts on the intake valve had backed out and bent the intake push rod (aluminum). I replaced the rod, set the valve clearances and cleaned the cooling fins on the block and head. Still had excessive back pressure and engine was slow to turn. Disconnected the exhaust manifold and engine cranked over just fine (loud). Finally, drilled some relief holes in muffler and now it runs great. Has anyone else had a similar issue with back pressure?

Murray Riding Mower with Briggs 11hp will not start

Hello All,
I came here hoping for some help. I have a Murray riding mower with an 11hp briggs engine that will not turn over. Not sure if it is seized. I bought it from a friend of my father in law back in September when we bought our house. It ran fine when we got it and I used it for a few hours one day trying to get used to it (never mowed a lawn before, never rode a mower, and wasnt sure how to navigate the hills, levels, and rocks in my yard). It was running fine and then I shut it off to refuel. When I went to start it, it let out some black smoke and died. I haven't been able to get it to run since. There is plenty of oil. (Edit: Is it possible that with out an oil pump the oil wasnt being circulated when I was on the hills and uneven parts of the yard?)

I shot some video of the no-start condition in the hopes that someone can help me diagnose and possibly repair. At this point, I do not want to buy a new engine for it as I am already $350 into it. Any more and I can just buy a new self propelled. It wont be as fun to use but will do the job for my yard. Video here: https://youtu.be/7T56P7QNNVQ.

Thank you all in advance!

Chris

Repairs John Deere STX38 transaxle problems.

A friend just bought an old STX38 yellow deck tractor. He knew it was stuck in gear but decided that "we" could fix it. The seller said that one or more of the shift keys were broken. Upon disassembly of the transaxle, they all look intact. Does anyone have any ideas about what else might be wrong? Also, once we figure out the problem, what type of lubricant do we put in the transaxle? It's a Tecumseh/Peerless unit.

Low Idle Adjustment on Kohler Courage SV-610

I have a Husky with a 21 HP Kohler Courage SV-610 engine. I have changed oil, oil filter, air filters, fuel filter, and sparkplugs, replaced two carburetor gaskets and the heat deflector gasket, put in fresh fuel, and the engine was running rough. I adjusted the Low Idle screw a bit, and it made the engine run smoother at full speed, I am working alonme, and did not have enough weight to put in the seat to keep it running so I could perform the recommended procedure. I have adusted the screw several more times, and the problem is now worse instead of better. Is there a strting pint for that screw, such as 1 & 1/2 turns clockwise from the furthest position it will go counterclockwise?

releveling a back yard

I have been asked to relevel a back yard. When it warms up she would like the grass killed off and it to be releveled. I have never done anything like this but I'm not afraid of a challenge. I guess my question is how much do I charger her? It is a75x75 ft square (probably more like a 50x50 tho). Its had a few low spots and would probably need 10-15 yards of soil. Then reseed they yard. How do I kill the grass? Round up?

Noob help with model verification please

I recently acquired this mower and I can't figure out how old it is or exactly what model. The previous owner gave it a paint job and removed any useful decals. The motor runs fine, but on its inaugural run I was having issues with it going up hill and essentially had to push it. Appears to be the belt between the motor and transmission needs to be replaced as I couldn't get it very tight even after moving the tensioner pulley as far as it would go. Any help any of you wiser gentlemen than me could give would be greatly appreciated so I could get a new belt ordered . Thanks.

Wife can't mow, need assistance please.....

Hello, I have a 10-12 year old Exmark laser Z 54" or 60" I honestly can't recall, I am a disabled senior and my Wife has been mowing our 3.5 acres since my injury in 2005, but anyway when she engages the blades the belt comes off every time regardless of how gentle she tries to engage them. We purchased a new belt late last summer but it has progressively gotten worse, to the point the blade belt comes off every single time and she is 66 years old and does not need to push mow this 3-4 acres of lawn and very fast growing old pasture with nothing but trash grass, sage, amoung several other fast growing grasses/weeds. Also the charging system does not work and she has to use NAPA 1500 amp jump starters, it will pull one down and kill the engine before she completes all the mowing so she has two and its requires both, and then they get weaker and weaker from such a deep discharge so we have to purchase a new one every spring and continue to use the strongest of the two from the prior season, that is cheaper than having it repaired although it is very aggravating. As I stated earlier iam a disabled senior and my wife is retired and we survive on very limited monthly incomes and can't afford to take it into the Exmark dealer for repairs, any and all suggestions/recommendations/help is very greatly appreaciated, given the proper troubleshooting and repair instructions our son in law hopefully can make the repairs. Thanks in advance for all that may contribute, not much I can do as I am 98-99% bedridden. Ancienly awaiting your reply.

Thanks

Hello,

I'm GSW from Belgium. I have a 16 year old Honda HRH536. I think there are some problems with the hydrostatic system. The speed is very slow. When I pull back the lawn mower, I must push to go nearly forward.

Soliciting Help for new purchase on Zero Turn Mower

Things I know... I have about 3 acres of grass to mow and I previously owned a Ariens Zoom Max 48" deck with a Kawasaki FR691V motor tagged as 24hp. I liked this mower but after 6 years of use I gave it to my son-in-law to buy me a new mower but now I am having a hard time deciding what to buy. For some reason that same FR691V Kawasaki motor is no longer on a new Ariens and that same motor is no longer rated 24hp, either 23 or 22, not sure. My yard is rough, old pasture land.

I am considering a Ferris IS700z with the front & rear coil over shocks, w/ B&S Commercial Turf Series 27hp @ $6,099 or with the Kawasaki FS691V 23hp @ $6,599... both with the 52" deck. This Ferris model has ZT3400 hydro and a pivoting front bar axle. What concerns me is the B&S Commercial motor being good enough? And aluminum cast spindles? Is it worth $500 more for the Kawasaki motor and is that even a good choice? It weighs 1059lbs and has 22x11-10 rear wheels.

I could step up to the IS2100z that starts at $8,499 that gives you ZT4400 hydro, independent front bar axle suspension(much nicer), 24x9.5-12 rear wheels.... Vanguard 810 26hp / add $500 to get Vanguard 810 EFI 28hp / or add $600 to get Kawasaki FX801V 852cc 25.5hp... still has aluminum spindles in the 52" deck width

Other mowers I am considering cost less like the Dixie Chopper Magnum 2250R 22hp Kawa FS motor 50"deck $4,947
Bad Boy ZT Elite 54" deck 26hp Kohler motor $4,703

Or maybe a Husqvarna M ZT52 or something else in the $5k-$6k range?

Is the Briggs Commercial Turf Series motors okay? I hear good and bad about all but a lot of information I have found to read is dated back to 2012/2013 and I know things change from year to year. Some for the better and some for the worse.

Are the cast aluminum spindles okay? Is it better to get greaseable bearings or sealed bearings?

Any and all suggestions welcome. I am not going to spend more than $9,500 but would just as soon spend just $5,000 if not able to really justify spending more. I tried a Dixie Chopper mower that had ZT2800 hydro and did not like the power output. I am pretty sure my Ariens mower had ZT3100 hydro. I live about 10 miles south of Chattanooga in Rock Springs, GA

Nearby dealers are Chattanooga Tractor Supply, Skyline Power Equipment, North Georgia Equipment Sales, Tas Equipment Supply, and some others

Dixon ZTR wont stop

I have a dixon ram ultra that wont completely stop when the arms are in neutral, it continues to creep forward. I was told that I needed to replace the wheel motors. However they are over 400.00 dollars each. Is this my problem or could it be something else.

I have a Craftsman 536-270320. The spring rod (part 165x165) that attaches to the brakes has broke. After purchasing a new one I cant figure out how to get it on as well as if any other springs are missing. Does anyone have a repair manual or insight on this mower?
Thanks,

Hydro Gear EZT 2200 Rebuild

I am in the middle of rebuilding a Hydro Gear EZT 2200. Left side, out of a Husqvarna RZ5424. It started going out around 90 hours, but was out of the 3 year warranty by a couple of months. I mow 2 flat acres and knowing what I know now would have bought something with a 2800. The Husqvarna tractor itself is a very nice well built unit, and I opted for the Kawasaki engine. I bought a new one (so it was claimed) and it isn't perfect, but I can get the job done. It overheats after about 10 minutes and I suspect the fluid is contaminated. I read that these are sealed maintenance free, but found a rebuild manual from Hydro Gear. I printed it out, and bought a seals kit and internal filter for it ~$40. I figured if it is shot and if I do nothing with it and at worst I threw away $40, but could save a lot of money, plus it might be fun. I am hoping to find some people who have had these apart at least and who have re-built them possibly.

So far, I think I made a good decision, the gears, shafts, and all critical components look great. The oil doesn't look too bad. The one problem, and a good one I think, is the filter. It seemed to be full of aluminum dust. What I think and hope is that the "center section" that the filter bolts to was just poorly cast and/or poorly machined. It looks rough, and I suspect that in my first 90 hours, the oil moving through the pump has collected and transplanted enough aluminum dust into the filter that now the transmission of power is not possible. I don't have it exactly in my head how this thing works yet, so who knows. Once I started noticing issues with it, it was only about 10 hours later and it now has no power. This is not the issue with good power when its cold either.

So, does this sound reasonable to anyone in the know? What else should I really look at while I have it apart? I don't see any scoring or broken/chipped gears in there, but I haven't cleaned it all up yet either. I haven't read these forum rules yet, but do have pictures I could post if that is possible and would help any.

JD Z445 Hydro Bypass?

How far can you safely pull (JD Z445 ZT) to put on a trailer with a dead engine before opening these bypass valves, if it has them. I have read not to pull them. SCAG Patriot

Does anyone have experience with the SCAG Patriot (formally the Liberty Z Pro)?
- Kawasaki FX Series engine
- ZT-3100 hydros
- 52" deck
- Sealed ball bearing spindles
- 22" drive tires, 13x5 caster tires

I'm a homeowner with about 2.5 acres, various terrain, some debris. Looking for something that will last and fairly easy to maintain. It's a little more expensive than what I wanted to spend for home use unit, but I'm finding you really do get what you pay for.... Also hoping that resale will be easier/better.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8"

For those looking to purchase a Tablet: Last week I was at Office Depot and purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8" (The next Best Thing Going) According to Samsung. It's a great little tablet. it also comes in a 9.7" if your looking for something a little larger. Galaxy Tab S2 8" is the 8" QXGA (2048x1536) AMOLED Display that's fantastic, easy on the eyes, the color and clarity are amazing.

Runs the Android 5.1, Lollipop OS and has a 1.9GHz+1.3GHz Octa-core Processor with 3GB of Ram with 32GB of memory but is expandable to 128G with a microSD card. It has one of the best cameras I've had yet on a tablet or phone it's a 2.1MP front and 8.0MP auto-focus rear camera, great if your into taking and keeping a lot of photo's.

The Samsung Tab S2 is about three times faster than the Kindle Fire I am using now and comes with tons of apps, Microsoft, Galaxy, Google as well as Google play app store. I don't do games so that part I can't comment on. The 8" runs $399 and the 9.7 is $499 which is a little more money than the Kindle Fire but well worth the extra if your looking for a Tablet that really works.

Grasshopper 718

I'm a past avid IH Cub Cadet collector. Still have a couple machines from my collection.

I farm, and have a couple farms to keep mowed. Decided it was time to buy a Grasshopper. Just picked up an older Grasshopper 718. '92 model with an M18 Kohler & 61" deck. Seems like I might be getting bit by another collection bug. Wouldn't mind having another Grasshopper, or three. Either way.

Anyway, here she is...I just added the quad-wheel wide-stance rear axle. It had a single tail wheel originally. Anyone else keeping these older machines running, and using them?

Stihl FS 56 with bike handle converting to loop handle

Hello,

I can buy a 1 year old Stihl FS 56 trimmer from my neighbours (this one is 50% cheaper than a new one in the shop so a very good deal). Due to health issues they have to move to a house without a garden.

The FS 56 is featured with a bike handle. Because I will use the trimmer for edging around my lawn I think a loop handle will be better. Is it possible to convert the bike handle to a loop handle?

What do I need, a loop handle, new throttle cable and covers with the throttle-knob?

MS270c Chain and Bar question

Hi I've been running a Ms270 for several years now and its time for a new bar and chain(s). I run a 20"bar and the stock Stihl chains that are .325......... I have been told that I could upgrade to the bar that runs the .500 chain & then run those chains on this saw.. Said to be faster cutting or at least they stay sharper longer. My Question is will this work ? without further modifications to the saw.
& is it a good idea. Thanks !

22hp into a 13.5 hp mower

Aloha,

I have an older John Deere with a 22HP B & S motor. The only usable part is the motor. I also have a newer Yard Machines with a 13.5 HP B & S motor that dropped a valve. That machine is in great shape.

Has anyone swapped in a much larger motor before, and if so, how difficult is it.

Yes I am new to this thread and I have not searched for other posts, please point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

2004 Dixie Chopper XT3200 60" 32hp Generac

I have a 2004 Dixie XT3200. I was mowing yesterday in grass about 5.5" tall and cutting it to 4 to 4.5". The mower was running at 3700 rpm but the blades would slow almost to a stop and just puke the grass out the exit shoot. I looked at the tach and it showed a decrease to 3680rpm's. Anyone have any ideas to why this would happen?

Huskee Steering Problem

Well, I got my starting issues resolved, thanks again to everyone!

I now have another issue I want to throw out there. My steering wheel on my Huskee Premium Model 678, maybe a 2002 has alot of play in it, by alot I mean I start to turn the wheel and I turn it about 1/2 full turn and then the wheels start to turn. I looked at the gear and the teeth all seem to meet at the same time.

Have anyone else had an issue with steering wheels????

Sprung replacement seat for ride on mower- any advantages ?

Hi
I am guessing this comes under operation or mowers, especially as it involves operaror comfort ?

I have an MTD ride on, basic model, which is a great little mower but has no suspension and solid seat. I am fine with this but my wife likes to cut the grass but gets backache from being thrown around.
Ground here is about3" of clay soil on stone so not easy to level, I am trying but new tank traps appear regularly.

I am looking at seats with a gas ram as suspension, but would they help. Even helping a bit would do.
I guess being thrown side to side will not improve much but may take out the sudden drops. Not a huge amount of extra height can be added, hence the smaller seats would fit I think.

Anyone tried these ? Any advice appreciated, I will probably buy one anyway but perhaps there is something better (apart from buying a bigger and better mower....)
John

Setting up a new YTH 24V48 (Fast tractor)

Just thought I'd throw this here in case anyone else needs it.

I had the YTH24V48 dropped off the other day by my local dealer. I chose to throw them the money as opposed to the big box stores in the area. Anyway it was a very simple process. First off you need to download and print out the owner's manual from Husqvarna.com. After reading that and the supplement that comes with the machine you need to purge the transmission. Easy. 5 minutes lost from your day. Next, insure all the grease zerks are greased. All (about 8 or so) are clearly diagrammed in the owners manual. Mine were greased, if they were not that may have added an additional 5 minutes or so. VERY easy. Next check your tire pressures listed on the tires. Mine were a few pounds over whats recommended so I let some air out. Again easy. Next, level the deck. Again very easy. Make sure the side to side is level first, as described. Luckily mine was. If not, very simple leveling process, there are two adjustments. One on each side. Easy to get to. The next step was to level the deck front to back. The manual calls for the front to be 1/8 to 1/2 of an inch LOWER than the back. Mine was level. Again, very easy fix. I just followed what the manual advised and lowered the front a bit. There is one adjustment at the front of the deck. The hardest part was measuring the blades. Once you measure the side to side, the front to back is only one measurement. All of this took a grand total of about 15 minutes. I'm not a lawnmower mechanic, I can BARELY read and follow directions.

This site has helped me out so much I hope this helps someone.

Bob

Throttle Lever won't stay on Fast, keeps slipping to Slow

I just bought a used Honda HRR216VXA (on Craigslist) and used it the first time today. Got it going fine but every 30 seconds or so, the throttle lever would slip back to the slow position. It was extremely annoying--I kept having to push it back up to Fast. Is there a possible quick fix for this or does it need to be replaced?

Huskee won't turn over

Hi everything.

I have an older Huskee Premium Model 678 20hp mower. Back in August this mower ran fine and had no issues. Well, the mower sat for a few months without use. I went to start it and nothing, the engine wouldn't turn over. I just put a charge on the battery and that reads fine. I thought it was the solenoid (located by the 20 amp fuse, which is good) under the seat. I was taking the 'bad' solenoid off and accidently connected the bottom terminals and the tractor turned over. I disconnected the battery and took the old solenoid off, I put a new one on and connected everything back up. Still nothing when I turned the key. I tried bridging the posts with a wrench again and the tractor again turned over. I even just replaced the ignition switch and the tractor still doesn't turn over. When the key is turned, I get no clicks, no lights, nothing. What in the hell am I missing?????

series 760-770 won't start

I have a MTD that on the manual just says series 760-770. This was given to me, so I don't know a lot about it. I have tried starting it, new battery, new solenoid and fresh gas. When I go to start it, there is just a clicking sound coming from the area of the solenoid, under the seat, left corner. It was doing that, so I thought that maybe the new solenoid was bad or I had hooked it up wrong and shorted it out or something, so I replaced it and still just get a clicking noise. Any ideas as to what to try next to get this thing going?

john deer 265 starting....

I have a John Deer 265 mower that will not start and/or run without starter fluid. I checked the fuel pump and it is working, fuel is getting to the carb. If I take the air filter off and spray fluid in there, it will start but it will only run for as long as I am spraying fluid. I have ground the point off of the solenoid that goes in the bottom of the carb, so that shouldn't be causing any problems. I am stumped as to what else I can do to get this going. I also replaced the spark plug, and the igniter. Any suggestions?

Husqvarna HU800AWD with Honda GCV190 engine will not start when cold

I have a three year old Husqvarna HU800AWD walk behind mower with a Honda GCV190 engine (manual start). It's been a good starting mower (usually first or second pull) up till this year. I've checked the spark plug and air filter, and filled it with fresh gas.

The only way I can get the mower to start when it hasn't been started recently is to take off the air cleaner, drip a few drops of gas into the carburetor, and replace the air filter. It will start on the first pull after doing that, and will run and restart just fine.

The engine has an auto choke. Is it possible that the choke is not working correctly in this engine, and if so, what is the fix?

Thanks,
John

craftsman riding lawnmower wont start - please help

I starter her up today, no problem, stopped it a minute later and now she won't start. Just a clicking sound but engine doesn't turn over. Hi All,

I have a Slt1554 cub cadet with a Kohler Command 27 engine. I can get it to start fine. I cant keep it running unless the choke is almost fully engaged when you put any load on it it dies it almost seem like its running out of gas. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter the new filter fills with gas so i do not think that fuel delivery is the issue. If anyone has any suggestions or direction i should look in it would be appreciated.

Diminishing spark Tecumseh H50-65410L

I bought a 1970's Roto-Hoe tiller a couple months ago for $20. image.jpgThe previous owner said it had been sitting outside for 2 years, so I figured it needed some work. I pulled the flywheel off to get a look at the ignition components, and the condenser was smashed, so I changed it. No spark. image.jpg The condenser I bought came with a set of points, so I changed them too. Gapped to .022" and still no spark. I changed the coil, and still no spark. After all this, I pulled off the internal magneto, and sanded the contact points to make sure I was getting a good ground. I finally got some spark, but it diminished little by little after about 10-15 pulls. Now I'm back to no spark. I did the screwdriver test on the flywheel magnets, and they seem to be strong. I pulled the magneto off again to sand the contact points, and nothing. I don't know what to do next. Please help.

I've been having problems with my mower lately, not starting from the key so I rewired it using my steps below.

5 prongs on the ignition switch- SBLMG

B- Wire straight to the battery with a 20 amp fuse
L- Red Stator Wire and Grey Wire from Carb
M- Black Wire from Coil/ Magneto
G- Ground

Mower starts and Run fine using my steps above. But the "B" Wire Straight to the battery and 20 amp fuse was very hot and then melted at the fuse. My Question is WHY?

One blade on my deck cuts lower than the other two

Greetings Folks:

I found and joined this website because I have a problem you guys may be able to help me with.

I have a Stanley (Murray Select) 21 hp Garden Tractor with a 42" deck. O bought it new over 10 years ago and its a been a great machine.

Right before last mowing season ended, the center blade of my mower started cutting the grass lower than the two blades on each end. As a results, this center blade often scalps the ground if I go over a small hump in the yard. I haven't dropped the deck yet to flip it over, but I thought I'd ask you guys what to look for, or even if you heard of such a thing.

Thanks!:newhere

New member from across the sea

Hello, I'm from Northern Ireland. I'm currently working on a 1978 Flymo DXL that my Grandma bought for £2.50. A few years ago the engine that was in it got sent to the scrap yard and I just threw on a smoking 2002 3.5 classic to get me going again.

Now, I'm gonna try and fix her up properly so I bought a 1985 Briggs 3.5hp engine from my local lawnmower repair shop for 40 quid. It come with new recoil rope and handle, new oil and a new plug. It also had a newer primer carb but I plan to build up an automatic choke carb for this one. I believe the engine is from a Mountfield Empress 16 due to the B&S stamping on the shroud and the side-ways pull start.

I'm having problems with the blade adapter/shaft lengths and I've posted a thread on that subject. I'd like to strip the smokey 3 1/2 Briggs to see what is wrong with it and maybe build it up and sell it. I'm going to start repairing buying/selling mowers aswell.

Anyway, here are some photos of my Flymo. The deck is made from cast aluminium. I'll try and find some pictures of it when I got it. The engine was brown and had the vertical pull start.

18.5 hp intek connecting rod

Anyone know the part # for connecting rod for 18.5hp intek motor? Mine broke - piston broke the spark plug as well but seem to have damaged little else. Hope someone out there has that part number - Thanks

Mower deck Where does the GX21582 Spring attach to on the 54" mower deck?

Got a used LA175. The previous owner had jury rigged a vise grip to keep the tensioner in place. Said there was some time of nut under the pulley that kept coming loose. What does the spring attach to? Want to fix it correctly. Thank you.

New to me lawn, Let's make it better! I need your advice!

Hey guys. So I recently bought this home. It was built in early 90's and I know the prev. owner. He didn't really do anything except cut it for the past 20yrs.

So, I'd like to of course make it nicer with a budget minded approach.

Here's the current state of the yard. It's almost an acre.

As you can tell, the front of the yard near the street is at the highest elevation.

Here's the area's and their visual soil samples

Grass in area 1 is by far the best, but still has weeds.

Area 2 is weeds and just dirt....

Area 3 is a mix.

Back yard is random..

Some better photos of the front that kind of show elevation etc...

So, I know I need to Aerate and over seed for sure.
I didn't want to 2D4 because I wouldn't have much yard with grass. lol
Figured I would try and overseed and feed as much as possible this year and spray 2d4 etc... next year.
I was going to also lightly dethatch (a pull behind drag, not a powered)

I have tons of moles so I need to put something down in general to kill everything including the grubs.
Home depot has this for pretty cheap, on the right. It's $6 a bag. Only need a few bags.
Is the one of the left better for twice as much>

Im cutting with a Scag 3 wheel at around 4", also what the prev. owner did.

410 cultivator not running right

Hi all, my neighbor brought over his little bolens 410 cultivator and it will only run on full or half choke and that is wide open. I checked the throttle cable, spark arrestor, plug and it is not burning rich, you can adjust the idle screw and nothing happens. I think there is something wrong with the carb? I think they still them for this model? I know it was made in 2004 and it is a 31cc, and the only other number I could find was 4mtds0314ra em. Plus the idle screw was the only adj I found unless I missed it somewhere? I thought maybe someone else may of had a problem like this. Also the fuel was fresh too.

Stuck blade adapter

Hi! New member. I will start a thread on this mower, it's a 1978 Flymo DXL (5?). It's went through 2 engines and I just got a 3rd one on Tuesday. The problem I have is the blade adapter. The engine sits quite low in the deck so the crank would be too long. I cut it down to roughly the size of the previous engines shaft. I then tried fitting the adapter to see how everything lined up but it was really stiff and needed hammering on. Once it was on, I discovered that there was no threads in the shaft, only a hole. But now, I cant get the adapter back off again. I think it was some rust on the shaft that is making it stick. I've tried my jaw puller but it doesnt work either. Any suggestions?

R7268 re-birth

I am trying to fire up a Lawn-Boy R7268 that my neighbor gave me that sat for a long time. I cleaned all the mouse nests out of it, cleaned the exhaust, ignition and carb. I replaced the spark plug and fuel line and it looks new. When I try to start it, it will fire up with a gas spray down the spark plug hole and will continue to run if I keep priming it. When I stop pumping the primer it dies. I see in the manual the carb has an altitude adjustment but I don't see it. I believe the issue is in the carb but I did mess with the gap on the fly wheel. The motor has about 80 psi compression but it leaks down Any advice
Thanks

My McCulloch is backwards!

Hello!

I had to join a forum group like this one because I have a rather unique problem. When trying to identify the motor I have, every photographic example I find is the reverse of what I have.

In my photo album I have two pictures of McCulloch weed eater motors. My motor is the one labeled as "Motor2."
If you look closely, you'll notice that my motor is the exact opposite of the other motor pictured.
The problem is, every search I've performed results in motors opposite of mine. It's making identification of my motor very difficult.

If there is anyone out here who might be able to identify "my" motor, I would really appreciate it as it needs work done on it and I need to find the correct manual for it.

Thank you in advance to any and all who offer to help.

(PS. For some reason I am unable to use the "insert" option for placing photo's directly into this post.)

I may have lived too long

I tried to let this one go, but then I remembered this site and its members....

Within the the week a TV announcer presented a word on the latest Nike product. Sneakers with batteries that lace themselves...No, this is not a joke. The TV dude said
"what a good idea . I could see paying $400 to $500 for a pair of these." WTF, in a nation where many young people have to dress in MCDonald hamburger costumes @ $15/ hr? Look soon for a "nose picker" app near you.

Turf Tiger won't stay running

Hello all, I'm new here with a new to me Turf Tiger (STT61) that I can't seem to keep running. It's got a Kohler engine. It seems like I can only keep it running if I put a hot jumper wire from the battery right to the fuel shutoff solenoid on the carb. If I just use the harness wire the engine will only run for a second and then shut off.

Another thing I noticed is that it sometimes doesn't seem to be charging the battery. Behind the control panel I notice there is a yellow wire with a female flat connector that doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Then even if I keep it running with the jumper wire, as soon as I pull in the steering control levers the engine will die even with me sitting on the seat.

I'm new to all this zero turn stuff so bear with me. Thanks.

Difficulty cold starting mower

Last season I started having trouble starting my mower between cuts. I found a problem in the ignition switch and I replaced it. I continued to have problems with starting the mower between cuts. I replaced the starter, problem continued. The battery has tested good. The mower typically starts easily if I turn it off and turn it back on within a couple of minutes. But if it sits too long sometimes I have to click the key 100 times before it gets a connection and turns over.

I'm hoping to find someone with a similar issue that can save me some time. It sounds like a lose connection. I'm guessing as it heats up the metal expands and makes a better connection (this would make sense with issues on a cold start). But I have not been able to find it anywhere.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Buy Last years Lawn tractors Best prices

Hi guys, just thought I put this message in here on what I did to buy my first lawn tractor. I called around a few dealers various makes & models. Ended up on a 2015 John Deere D125 for $575.00 less than 2016 prices with Zero hours on it & with full warranty. So I suggest anyone out there looking to buy a new lawn tractor any make or model, to call around & see what's available, almost bought a Craftsman but decided on the John Deere.
Just my 2 cents worth but it worked out good for me. One drawback for me just cause I wanted to take it home with me right away I will loose a few months of warranty as I can't use the tractor till May as I have 2 year warranty. I live in the big white North still lots of snow here, kinda hard to cut grass with the snow on top. LoL I'm sure many of u guys or lady's have done this but some may not think of getting a last years model of lawn tractor. I even looked into to seeing if there was anything new to the 2016 lawn tractor & there was none. Can't wait to I can cut the grass. Yuk did I really say that??? Hope this helps.

Dys 4500 deck

I have a 2006 dys 4500 26 hp 54"cut mower. With the deck fully raised the front caster wheels of the deck stay on the ground. With the deck in the lowest setting the mower will just spin tires. Is there a way to adjust the height of the front of the deck? It's a pain to load on a trailer and gets easily hung in ruts/ditches/ uneven yard. The only adjustments I've seen are on the arms that lift the deck or adjust the cut height. Any help/advice is appreciated.

Hi! I am from the Kansas City area of Missouri. I was born in the southeast area if Missouri in the river bottoms in a house that was less than a thousand yards from the Mighty Mississippi River. I grew up on John Deere tractors (johnnypoppers). So of course I mow with John Deere equipment. I presently have two John Deere 318s, one is for mowing and the other has a 44 loader on it.:newhere:

About a two years ago my shift lever was starting to get hard putting into forward gears and finally the lever broke. I put on a new one but shifting got harder and finally would just go into reverse. Quit using it all together but need to figure out whta the problem is that it wont go into gear anymore.
Any ideas??
Thanks,

bagger for fabricated decks

I took delivery of a YT48XLS yesterday and was informed by my dealer we ordered the wrong bagging system. I need the one with an internal blower motor at over double the price. I went on the Husqvarna site and noticed it only received 1.6 stars out of 5 in the review section but I couldn't read the reviews. Anyone here have this particular bagger or know anything about it?

Thanks

good way to level your mower deck?

I have a 54 inch mower deck on this 425 John Deere that my neighbor gave me. Just got the deck on it the other day is there a good way to see that it is level before trying to mow? Do I need to get the ht adj first then lower or raise my gauge wheels? I don't have a book on this but I think I will try to find one.

Thanks Gary Mac

Need advice on hydrostatic transmission

I have an old Scotts 1642H riding mower with a Tuff Torq K51A hydrostatic transmission. This past weekend we put a cinder block under the transmission and took off both rear wheels. After putting them back on and removing the cinder block, the transmission has no power. The mower will not move in forward or reverse but it is obvious that it is trying. Only one of the wheels has a wheel key (my helper says it was already like that) but even with the wheels off and the mower jacked up (properly this time) the axle has no power at all. It spins when you put it in gear but even the slightest touch stops it from spinning. None of this was an issue prior to putting the cinder block under the transmission and removing the wheels.

After reading up on the transmission on the internet and watching some videos I was convinced the issue was in the transmission. The oil level was fine and there was only a very small amount of metal particles found in the oil (for some reason there were no magnets at all in the transmission). I spent the last couple of days tearing it apart and cleaned and inspected everything inside but cannot find any problems. All of the gears look good and show no unusual wear, all of the splines (both inner and outer) look good on all parts (no damage or uneven wear). All bearings and surfaces that they contact look great and work perfectly. None of the parts with splines are loose and seem to be within tolerances, including the pump bearing assembly that attaches to the fan/drive-belt that so many people have problems with (splines getting worn out - mine are fine).

The Center Case, Pump Cylinder Block, and Motor Cylinder Block all seem to be fine despite one (or all) of these being the suspected point of failure (as per Tuff Torq). The pistons are all tight yet slide fine, the springs all seem to be fine, there are no blockages, and both swash plates look pristine. These are the parts that make up the repair kit sold by Tuff Torq (including a seal kit) but, frankly, it is just to expensive for me to buy without any evidence that there is something wrong with any of those parts (other than the fact that SOMETHING is causing this). I'm at my wits end and am about to put it all back together and see what happens. This may be a case of having put the cart before the horse and missing some obvious linkage problem before starting in on the transmission. I just want to be thorough and inspect everything inside the transmission while I already have it apart. Any advice on what else I should check inside the transmission would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have everything cleaned and organized on the garage floor at the moment so I can provide pictures of any of the parts in question.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I have a 2006 ZForce50 that I am having trouble with one of the hydro transmissions on. The right side is sticking and not driving as well as the left side. It is usable, but very frustrating. I am looking for any advise on servicing or repairing the hydro, part number I have from the online manuals is Cub Cadet 01008193. Any help would be appreciated. I saw a thread about changing the gear oil, is there a procedure available for doing that? Thanks

Need advice choosing new Lawn Tractor

Let may say first that I am not very knowledgeable about lawn tractors. The only one I have ever owned is a 2006 TSC SuperHuskee SLT4200 (MTD?) 42" with an 18.5 hp B&S Intek engine. It has done the job over the years and I've only had to replace blades, belts, batteries and one set of spindles. It is not a comfortable machine, the steering is sloppy, the deck is hard to keep level, and the cut is not smooth when moving anything over slow. It's time for a new machine.

I (or my wife) mow about 2 acres of bumpy yard with some slope, several trees, parked farm equipment, a pond bank and a couple of drainage ditches. I don't think a Zero Turn would work for us. I have been doing some research on the internet and think I have narrowed it down to either a Husqvarna YT48XLS ($2800) or a Cub Cadet XT2 LX46 FAB ($2500). The Husq has a 26 hp Kohler 7000 series engine, while the Cub comes with either a 24 hp Kohler 7000 series or an 18 hp Kawasaki engine (same price). Both have fabricated decks, diff locks and comfortable seats (i have sat on the Cub but have yet to find the Husq, but it looks good). I think they have the same transmission.

I would appreciate any advice or opinion regarding either machine or perhaps about a better choice given my situation. I would also appreciate any advice on the engine choice for the Cub (6 hp difference sounds like a lot, but maybe not?). Thanks in advance for your time - Steve.

Craftsman 550 simple carb Fix + THANKS!

I purchased this tough little Craftsman 550 FWD push mower for $68 out the door. brand new in October 2009 Last Floor model just missing the gas cap..Is that really the Price? Yes. I’ll take it.
I Just bought a house the year before and my bestman let use his gutsy 7.25 torque for 1.5 seasons – so I wasn’t really wanted to down grade in power..but @ $68 bucks! Sold and I only have 3/8 of an acre. ½ hr of mowing.. Cleaned up my friends mower and returned it with a $100 gift card.

model 917.375610
Engine: 10T802 0708-E1 code 06081655

2010 A new neighbor moved in without a mower and I figured I’d return the good deed so I let him use it as well. He only had a ½ arce and was a renter.
It was 2 years of hell for it..
He beat the crap out of it. He would run over anything.. Broke the shaft. Broke and bent 2 blades. Mowed the grass too high , too wide until it stalled and asked what’s wrong with the mower?. Mowed in the rain and got it so soaked that the air filter that it was filled with water until it wouldn't run… again..something is wrong with the mower. broke the pull cord.
left me with no gas once..once. The lesson learned ..Love thy Neighbor just don’t lend them anything you aren’t willing to part with.

So it’s a few seasons later and carb troubles arouse. The 1st real running trouble I’ve had beside Conan the Destroyer.
I was researching here on Surging and Soot conditions on the Spark plug. Found all the info I needed and then some.
-Pulled and cleaned the carb / tank .
-Replaced the diaphragm
-Changed the plug
-Changed the oil
-new air filter
And still surging and racing..
Finally came across a thread here about the Governer and a brand new mower not running right..
racing and stalling. Smoking after it stopped , Gray oil.
– Hmm. after a week plus of trying to figure it out.. searching.. I never noticed that the governor had slipped past it’s stop..HA ! so simple. Fixed.
Now it runs like a champ. I was just about ready to sell it and buy a new mower.
I did already buy a new carb . but its $15 bucks well spent as opposed to $300+ for a new one. A small Part of me still wants that 7.25+ power and RWD for the big hill in my front yard , the larger part is ecstatic that I fixed this reliable simple mower.

Many Thanks – without places like this to come to for advice. I would be lost. Thanks for the confidence to fix anything.

Now How difficult is it to change the pull cord? And the blade shaft?

Have a great spring...it snowed 3" here yesterday...

B&S 10 hp vertical shaft starter question

I just completed overhauling this motor and had it bored to .030. After assembling it I tried to start it and the starter was dragging. It did manage to give it enough turn to start it but it only ran about 20 seconds before dying. The starter was dragging extreamly trying to turn the engine and running the battery down. I hooked up jumper cables to it and using the car battery it started again. Once again it ran about 20 seconds before dying. Trying once again the top of the starter broke. (It was the original B & S starter that came with the motor in 1990) I put a cheaper knock off starter on it and it dragged as well not turning the motor fast enough to start it. I pulled the spark plug removing all compression and the starter turned it much better but after putting it back in the starter would not turn it enough to start it. I tried until the knock off starter actually started smoking a little bit.

Does a B&S starter have more torque than an off brand?

Can I get a higher torque starter?

What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Chuck

HYD TRANS REBUILD/RUNNING GREAT FOR 20 MIN THEN LOOSING PPWER

HI YALL,
I am a first timer looking for input with some of the more seasoned techs out there. I gave a small shop my left trans from my RZT 50 CUB CADET to rebuild and $450.00later, he said it was done, after having torn it down and rebuilt twice. When I picked it up, it ran worse than when I dropped it off to him. Plus, I footed the bill for all the parts of which were 2 filters, one for my trans, one for him to keep in stock, as well as the 4 thrust bearings (2 of which went into my trans and 2 for his stock). Having forgiven him and picking my mower up, I decided to tear it down myself. After dis-assembly, I discovered he had not even changed, not to mention, clean the existing filter. Sooo, I proceded to order the 2 new pumps, after carefully inspecting all other parts, and reassembled it. After loading it with 40 wt non detergent and 1/2 pt tranny fluid, I purged it, adjusted the linkage and took off mowing. It ran like a new machine for about 20 minutes then started slowing down in the left with the right being ok. I'm not sure of what I can do to make a fix and thought I would reach out. By the way, the small retainer pin in the mail pump shaft was installed properly, after I got the heck of how to keep it in place. I'm confident of reassembly, but am looking for guidance on how to keep the trans running consistantly. Any ideas?

Raptor SD stalling when blades are engaged

5.0 hrs on my new SD. It has been flawless. Today when I engaged the blades at half throttle the engine choked down and stopped. I was able to engage at a slightly higher rpm and keep running. What is causing this? Bad Fuel?? This motor has always sputtered at little on initial startup when the choke is applied but cleans itself out rather quickly. Any harm to engaging at 3/4 throttle? Thanks for any help. - JP

Ariens 46" 20 hp riding mower with auto trans. problems.

Well, purchased a new Ariens 46" 20 hp riding mower back which was manufactured in march of 2015 and bought in the late summer of 2015. Mower has auto transmission. Cut fine in 2015, put it away for the winter and left it in neutral. Few days ago went to get it going and it started up and ran fine, but had a little trouble getting the mower in 'gear'. This mower has what they call a free wheel control lever, it allows the transmission to be put in neutral to push or put in gear to operate and move. I got the mower back in gear by reaching underneath where the lever is attached to the transmission and moved it manually. Lubed up the area, now goes in and out of gear like it use to.

Problem is, the mower wont move now ether direction, but motor and blades operate fine as well as getting in and out of neutral. The mower utilizes a pedal to move forward or back. Things I have noticed and worth mentioning.

1. area has been cleaned of all grass clippings.
2. pedal lever seems to operate on the transmission just fine. nothing binding etc.
3 free wheel lever ( long stiff metal bar ) operates freely with some resistance ( I believe as it should)
4. this mower has a cut in reverse feature that in order to use, the ignition key is turned to a particular position. this still works, if I push the pedal without the key being in the correct position, the motor will cut out. ( like it is suppose to.)
5. everything seems to operate, except the pedals allowing the mower to move.

Any help would be appreciated.

EX Mark Commercial 30 Drive problem

I have an EX Mark Commercial 30 with a drive problem. No matter how tight I adjust the drive lever cable, the mower either drives at full speed or does not drive at all. The mower pulls heavily to the left under full power. The problem is pronounced on steeper grades. It worked fine for two years with minor cable adjustments. The manual says nothing beyond tightening the drive cable as an adjustment. What other adjustments can be made?

New buggy

I am the proud owner of a new 3200 with the 37 Kaw.I have a few questions regarding the proper setup.Since I had a older John Deere I had to get something with a softer ride, hence the Ferris. While attempting to find a way to soften the ride with the JD a fellow forum member suggested a few hints using the tire pressures as a way to improve both the ride and the damage to the turf while turning.
I only used the Ferris one time, and was a little surprised at the stiff ride.I would like to think that the ride can be improved using both the suspension and the tire pressure.Does anyone have any suggestions regarding either?I did take a look in the setup manual and found that somewhat confusing. The adjustment they refer to appears to be in the reverse of what one would think. The front set of shocks are set to the middle setting and the rear are set to what appear to be the stiffest setting. However according to the manual it appears to be set on the softest setting. The thought I have is that the shock set at the longest setting should be the softest.Am I incorrect? Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the tire pressure?

Problem servicing Mikuni carb on Hondq GCV520

Hi Guys,

I was servicing the Mikuni twin-choke carburettor from a GCV520 engine (GJAKM-1053057) which is installed in a Honda lawn tractor HF2315 HME.

After disassembly I noticed that the two rubber caps on the main bleed pipes were broken off - perhaps it happened when I inverted the carb to remove the air vent cover. (I found the remains of them on my bench and the rubber was very brittle.)

Problem is there's a bit of the rubber cap still stuck in the main bleed pipes which I can't get out.

The main bleed pipes are not removable so that's not an option and I don't want to poke the remains down with cleaner wire because I'm not sure where they'll end up. It looks like the bleed pipes go into the centre of the carb and curve out into the venturis - can anyone confirm this? If so, it might be worth taking a chance on poking the remains straight down the tubes into the venturis where I can easily extract them. My concern is that there could be passageways not visible that they could get jammed in.

Can anyone advise me on this please?

Thanks,
Chris

CV20S quit running

Hello,
I have a 1994 Dixie chopper 50 " mower with a cv20s motor. I was mowing today and it suddenly quit running. The key switch is dead. It has a new battery. There is a wire with a 20 amp fuse coming off hot wire on starter. The end to starter is connected. The other end is loose and I can't tell where it goes. If i touch it to side of solenoid and turn key it sparks. Would that make it quit and where would broken end of that wire connect?

Thanks
Hal
