Engine Engine issue

Hi, I have an old sears, 18 hp lawn tractor. Was going fine, shut it off and a few mins. later started it up. Went 10 feet and it stopped. It starts, but when you let the clutch out it stops, even in neutral; like the seat does when you get off. Does it have another cutoff that is connected to the clutch? Anyone know about this? Thanks, frank

Honda Harmony 2013 SA Transmission pulley

Hi,

The drive belt on my Honda 2013 SA shredded at some point then broke. I have removed the remains of the old belt and I have a copy of the service guide instructions for replacing the belt but (and this is the big but) the transmission pulley seem to have been split into two halfs along the perimeter in the root where the belt seats. (To clarify, I'm talking about the pulley becoming two disks, both on the transmission shaft, one spins freely, the other is locked in place by the woodruff key). My question is, how does the pulley come off? Do I have to drop the transmission? A copy of the relevant pages of the shop manual would be much appreciated!

Best,

David

Question about john deere 214 lift mechanism

I have a john deere 214 garden tractor with electric lift, and i was wondering if i could leave my rear lift assembly on the tractor all the time? Even if i wanna use other attachments like a snow blade or mower deck. I don't see how it would harm anything so i put my snow blade on, and it worked and lifted and lowered the blade. But it was a little slow lifting it and when lowered on the ground it seemed to be tilted too much forward. I have never owned any attachments besides a mower deck, so i am new to this. Ultimately, i'm just wanting to know what it harms to leave the rear lift assembly and rear lift rod hooked up while using a snow blade? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks. I use the model 43 snow blade.

Vintage Briggs, need info

I just picked up a vintage B&S and I'm trying to date the engine if someone could help me. The Model is "6", the Type # is 105175 and the serial number is 48182 and I'm pretty sure there is a sixth digit in the serial number after the 2 but I cant make it out.

Snow blower

My lawn tractor takes a 190-032 or 190-823 snow blower attachment. Is the blower portion the same on the particular year MTD built tractors but the frame rail mounts specific? I ask this as I can get a new 42 inch cub cadet blower housing minus the mounting rails for my tractor. Thanks

Low speed surging on LB 8231 Not fuel related?

Hello All:

I have a Lawn Boy 8231 that has a low speed urging problem that I do not think is fuel related. Instead of fuel related problem, I think that I have found the trouble to be caused by slack in the spring that is connected to the governor.

The speed of this engine, 640, is controlled by turning a knob in the rear of the shroud about 90 degrees. This knob is connected to a wire that has a dog leg in it that adds tension to a spring that is connected to the governor. There is a bit of free play between the dog leg and the loop in the spring. I think that this is what is causing the engine to surge at low speed. In the past, I think that I cured the problem by making the bend in the dog leg larger to remove any free play between the spring and the dog leg.

I may have found that when the engine is running, there is no slop between the dog leg and the loop in the spring but that was decades ago. Is there any slop between the loop in the spring and the dog leg when the engine is not running?

To work on this problem, I may have to remove the engine from the deck to gain access to the governor rod which is a real pain! There is one slotted head screw holding the rod in place but I will bet that it is almost impossible to turn with a screwdriver with the deck attached! This why I ask the question concerning the free play in the dogleg/loop in the spring. Does this spring have free play in it while running and not running?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Tia,

Franch

Briggs & Stratton V-Twin Nikki Carburetor #303447

I have a B&S V-Twin Nikki Carb #303447. Had to choke it to start it and leave the choke on to get it to run. Was blowing snow and the engine stopped. I sprayed carb cleaner in it, it would run until it ran out of carb cleaner fuel. So I pulled top off of carburetor and cleaned the jets and the stem from the carburetor top down (it has little holes in it). Float and float valve OK and working.

The engine will only start with carb cleaner sprayed in it. Gas line has gas, its filling the bowl and raising the float, and shutting the gas off. But, can't seem to get any gas from the float bowl to the engine.

I removed the idle jet screw with the spring on it and NO gas came out. Don't know if that's an error or gas needle.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Put everything away for the season (with pictures)

I am officially done for the season. I spent the morning yesterday prepping my mowers for winter, cleaning them, running them out of gas, taking things off my trailer, putting new oil in my snowblower, etc. Now the snowblower is ready for action, although I will be perfectly fine if it doesn't get used.

Here are some pics of the garage setup now. What goes on my trailer for snow removal is the snowblower, shovels, gas, traffic cones, and a toolbox that includes knives to get a newspaper out of a snowblower auger, an ice scraper, as well as straps to secure the snowblower.

If you're wondering why some of the pictures look weird, I had some mowing yard signs hung up on the wall that I Photoshopped over (at the trimmer/edger).

Blades How to level grasshopper 618 mower deck

My mower deck manual for my 618 grasshopper with a 52 in deck states that the back of the mower deck should be .375 in. higher than the front of the mower deck, That would make the front of the mower blade lower in the front and higher in the back, that I believe is correct, However the front of my blades are are .750 lower in the front than the rear. Are these the correct dimensions? and if not how do I adjust the mower deck? I have 21in. tires and use the 2nd mounting hole on the mower frame.
thanks Dave T

Trouble charging what I'm worth

H I every one, just joined today. I've been landscaping for 3 years now. My fall clean ups been mostly small residential homes. This year my lawyer highered me to do his fall clean up because the man who normally does it sucks. This property is at least a acre or a little more, filled with trees every where. I work with my father, I have 2 stihl magnum back pack blowers, 29 hp monster leaf loader. I know I should buy a walk behind blower and a leaf plow but not sure if it's the right time for that investment (don't want to buy those things for one job). Most of the leaves on the property I had to blow into piles untill I couldn't move them any more, then I would step over that pile and start a new pile. All the while moving towards the main dumping area in the back of the property. I then had to rake the leaves onto tarps and drag them and dump them. The final step was to blow all the leaves on the hill down to the street( because I thought it would be more efficient then trying to blow them up the hill and dragging them) I then sucked them up with my loader and filled that to capacity just one time. I usualy charge $40.00 per load. Ok so I was there 2 days total of 16 hours. I was thinking to charge 30 per man per hour so that would be 960.00+40=$1,000.00 total for 2 8 hour days of very difficult work. So my questions are, am I over charging? If I had the walk behind blower and leaf plow would I of saved that much time? If I did have those other tools should I charge more because more equiptment on the job like 40 per man per hour etc.? On a last note my father and I work are butts off and we maybe stopped for a coffee and a power bar 1 time all day. Sorry for the length of this post hopefully I can get some feedback. Thanks

Help what engine do I have

I got an MTD mower from a friend and the engine does not have the original shroud on it so I dont have a model number. is there any other way to tell what model engine I have so I can buy parts for it. I have reason to believe that it is either a 14.5HP OHV IC or a 16HP OHV IC and not the 18HP that the shroud says because the breather is different. any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Echo SRM 1500 starts but then dies, New Carb ???

Hey, I have an older Echo SRM 1500 trimmer. It has given many years of great service, but now it will not continue to run after it is started. I have put in fresh non-ethanol fuel mix with a touch of Seafoam. Should I also replace the carb? I'm thinking yes. In thinking this through, my SRM 1500 does not have a primer bulb. Is there a way to add this to the trimmer? If so who would have such? Thanks so much for the help!!!

Can / Will a Black & Decker SPCM1936 work on Zoysia Grass

I have researched cordless electric self propelled lawn mowers and really like the Black & Decker SPCM1936 model. Based on reviews, it looks like it will do a nice job on our mixed fescue grass. However, our front yard is Zoysia and I'm curious if anyone has had any experience using the SPCM1936 either positive or negative? I have been using a very old gas powered lawnboy for the last 15 years, but it is getting really hard to push that heavy mower up the hills and through the heavy zoysia. The yard isn't very big, we have about 1250 sq ft of zoysia followed by another 1750 sq ft of fescue for a total of about 3000 sq ft total of lawn to cut.

Will a cordless electric cut the zoysia effectively?

Craftsman ZTS 7500 issue when trying to start.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I have an issue a Craftsman ZTS 7500, BS V-twin 24hp, 50" cut. First, it has been starting and running great for years. Last year, sometimes when I'd try to start it, The starter kicks in but won't turn the engine... sometimes. IF I hold the key for a few seconds, it might kick, maybe not. If I turn the engine by hand a revolution or so, it might start. If I pull the plugs (new ones), and hit the starter... the engines spins like a top. Put the plugs back in, same thing. Most times when I hit the starter, it will spin the engine about 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn, then stop. Sometimes it will crank and start right up. most times I have to turn the engine by hand to a sweet spot then it might crank. The starter has been swapped with a known good one. Any thoughts??
Thanks.

Toro timecutter Zero turn deck noisy

Hi I have a Toro Time cutter zero turn mower that has a mower deck that is very noisy when engaged. The original Briggs & Stratton engine I believe was a 16.5 hp engine that went bad. The Toro dealer replaced that engine with the B&S model 310000 19hp engine because the original engine is no longer made. The dealer had to use the old engine stator, engine clutch and pulleys on the new engine. I have about 2 hours run time on the new engine. It runs beautifully and is quiet. On the other hand when I engage the deck it is very noisy. The deck was quiet before the new engine was installed. I have not been able to contact the Toro dealer because they are closed for the Thanksgiving holidays.
Does anyone know what might be the reason for the noisy deck? I have looked at it closely and do not see any obvious problems.
Thanks,
Bob

Meijer Mower Resto

Figured that it was time to show off the mower I've been working on for a while now. It's not a "vintage" or desirable machine, but it has some sentimental value, since my parents bought it new in 1990 and was the first mower I used. It was also the first mower I learned to fix, eventually being seriously upgraded by me around 2000.

In any event, this was not going to be a "restore it back to original" project. The idea was to restore the components that I used in the 2000 build & sneak in a few upgrades. Without further adieu, here is a "Before" picture:

As you can see, it is a Meijer-branded machine, which is basically identical to Rally mowers of the same era. The condition was beat up, but solid & running. Its engine plastics had turned from a bright yellow to a sickly pale yellow/gray color, while the bag had suffered a similar fate. So, it came time for some disassembly;

Ugh...

Now, back in "the day", I only had a couple lawnmowers with yellow plastics, and since a lot of time had passed, I expected replacement yellow plastics to be hard to find. This was partially true - I easily found a new fuel tank, but have not gotten a new rewind cover or air filter cover. At this point, I'm probably going to have to find some paint:

The deck was in need of some TLC, so I opted to have it professionally powder coated. Now, I didn't have them remove all the "battle scars", but it turned out really nice:

And finally, The key to this rebuild was that I did not want to redo this if I could not get replacement decals for it. Now, I'm not sure if replacement decals were ever available for these things, but thankfully, I found someone willing to repro them for me (hope you don't mind the plug):
http://ift.tt/1NeTFWw

The new decals were great! Here it is with the main decal + serial number sticker on:

And a current picture (not the best quality) with a NOS Briggs engine sitting on there temporarily & and the protective film still on the decals:

I still have a few parts on order to finish it up, but once it's done, I hope to get a little photo shoot of it next to the bone-stock Meijer I picked up.

I know it's not a particularly exiting build, but I hope you guys like how this one is turning out.

-Rob

Engine wont prime gas

people,

have a push mower, Troy Bilt, 6.75HP B&S engine, and red push primer button appears OK (pressed it onto my palm, and felt to create pressure), cleaned carb well, Ive cleaned many carbs before, but geez- primer does not suck in any gas. You can feel it and hear it when it sucks in, and it does NOT suck in any primer gas.

I did replace the paper gasket behind the black plastic housing too, just in case, but it was a waste of $2. Still no sucking gas. ideas appreciated.

Kohler Courage 19 ACR/Starting Problem finally solved

I'm new - this is my first post. Just wanted to share this information as it took me a long time to fix this issue with my Toro mower.
Symptoms - nearly impossibly to start cold. Sluggish starter - slowing down (fighting a closed exhaust valve). I set up a car battery on a trickle charger that I would then hook jumper cables to my mower battery.

Anyway starting this mower kept getting worse. I would throw a tarp over the engine and even run a space heater thinking it was just not going to start if it was below about 70 degrees.

Finally I started finding out about the ACR system. I went through the valves, looked at the valve guide, set and reset the lash, figured out the little set screw that goes in the rocker nut was never installed from the factory. Didn't matter.

I pulled the flywheel and opened the engine compartment and finally found the problem.

The mechanism that activates the ACR feature was broken it two pieces. This is the "weight" that rotates a little shaft attached that lives in the exhaust cam gear. By 'in', I mean the flat part of this part sits on the top of the gear, it's round section passes through the gear, and the half round section extends down into a slot machined into the cam. This part adds an extra bump to the cam surface while the engine cranks. This leaves the exhaust valve open longer and provides the compression relief. Automatic Compression Relief - and this part is the key to the whole thing working right.

So I pulled gear and found only the top half of the part in-tact. The bottom of the part - the half-round section had broken off and was down in the bottom of the crank case. I found it with a couple of bamboo skewers after fishing around for a while.

The fix - less than ten bucks on ebay. I picked up a set of gaskets, the little set screws, a new exhaust gasket off another site.

Put everything back together and she started right up. It's rainy and cold today - there's no way this machine would have started on a day like today...

The fracture on the part looked like it started at the reduction in material - right where the half-round section starts. The fracture was brittle - it started as a crack and worked back and forth over time. This explains the gradual onset of the problem - maybe. Part of that theory doesn't make sense to me but the part did not fail suddenly. The fracture slowly progressed across the half round section. Once it broke, I don't see how the broken section could have stayed in the cam slot but maybe. If it managed to ride in there for a while it could explain why it would suddenly crank like normal sometimes - but only after the oil was warmed up. Still - I don't think this explains everything.

My mower - 8 year old Toro Z4200 purchased new at Home Dept - Courage 19 SV590. You can find the manuals on line in PDF form, the parts websites have excellent drawings. I found this solution by going in after it. I didn't know what I was going to find, and everything I read on-line pointed to fixes that didn't work in my case.

Hope this helps someone else with the same engine (or similar). I ran with this problem for several years until it finally got bad enough to keep the engine from starting except in rare moments.

Steam Pouring out of the Air Intake

Hi everyone,

I have a Countax lawn tractor fitted with a Yanmar 2V78 V-twin diesel engine.

It has started to throw a load of steam out of the air intake when I turn the engine off and my first guess is the head gasket. I have recorded a video so if any one with knowledge of diesel engines or Yanmars can help me then that would be greatly appreciated.

The oil seems okay still, no milky oil.

Kawasaki on my John Deere 345 Dying

Wondering if anyone can help me here. I have a JD 345 with a Kawasaki 20 HP motor. About every 5 minutes after she heats up it dies. Then after a 5 min cool down starts right up again and so On. As its dying I can keep it going faintly for few more seconds by pushing the choke all the way but it still dies which made me think it was a fuel issue. I've changed the carb, fuel filter, fuel line, governor & carb springs and linkage. Still the same. Then I thought it may be electrical so I changed one of the coils thinking it was heating up and dying. No dice. Then I changed the ignition delay module. From what I read on the forums This gave me hope. Still nothing. Today I pulled the igniter and did a continuity test on it. There were two spots where I was getting resistance where there should be none and the other no resistance where there should be. Before I go and spend $275 on an igniter I want to make damn sure a couple of bad spots could be the cause of my problems. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Marty

Craftsman riding mower Engin/Electrical problem help

Hell all,

I have a Craftsman 17.5 B&S 42" 247.203734. Today I went through some pile of grass where there was a small anthill (which I did not see.) After hitting it with the blades, the tractor jumped back a bit, the engine chocked and shut down. After that I have not been able to start it.

When I turn the key, the only thing that happens is a faint click coming from somewhere around the carburetor. During this click, the Indicator Light lamp blinks once red. Nothing happens. (The Indicator Light is ON when riding backwards with the blades engaged. I believe that is its only purpose.)

I checked the fuse initially and it looks OK.

Any ideas?

Thank you for all the help!

John Deere Mower Deck - Hot dip galvanized housing?

Hi again,

my 48" mower deck is currently beeing sandblasted (it was sure needing it... see pic). There is some welding work to do on the deflectors and I thought I'd give it a thorough cleaning before I start. When this is done the normal way would be to apply corrosion inhibitor (primer) and a top layer(s) of nice JD-Yellow (RAL 1018). The guy from the sandblasting company however gave me the idea to have it hot-dip galvanized instead of using a primer.
This would of course stop corrosion once and for all but wouldn't the heat cause deformations in the housing?
If anyone of you guys has experience with this topic (hot-dip galvanizing of sheet metal parts) please let me know...

Thanks in advance...

48" mower deck on LX188 - Bearing and Seal issue

Dear all,

my 98 LX188 has a 48" mower deck with badly damaged bearings. After disassembly i found out that the bearings used are of type 6204 (open type). The bearing housing is normally sealed with shaft seals on the top and bottom. The bearings are easy to get and cost only few Euros on the aftermarket. With the seals however, it's a bit more tricky. I contacted my local JD dealer for pricing of those. Result: For the price of one I can get all six ball bearings including shipping.
So my question is: Can't I just use closed-end-bearings (Type: 6204-2RS) instead of the open type and forget about the seals in the bearing housing? Those bearings have a lifetime fill of grease and are protected against splash water and dirt.

Has anyone ever tried this? Did it work?

Thanks in advance!

Carsten from North-Germany

Need help and advice with buying a lawn mower

Hello everyone,

I am brand new to these boards seeking a lawn mower purchase. We own a 1/2 acre lot and I am tired of mowing that with my small electric Black and Decker mower. I am approaching 50 and I have to take two days to mow the entire yard with that little mower, although it has lasted my 15 years, I feel it is time to make a switch. We don稚 have the money for a Riding mower.

Our yard is relatively flat with little to no hills, just a few small humps here and there - nothing major. My main issue with using our electric lawn mower is having to worry about the cord and that takes me longer than I really want to spend mowing the yard. I thought about Push Mower (Gas of course) with no self-propelled, but I have read that these mowers typically are no longer made using the best parts. The Self-Propelled mowers I have read have more parts that can potentially break. In short, I need some help and advice. I want to be able to mow the entire lawn the same day :)

I have so many choices with the top two are not self-propelled, but I am not sure how much they weigh or if they are easy enough to push around the entire yard. The rest are all Self-Propelled. All my wife wants from me is to get a mower I can use to mow the entire lawn the same day :) I知 not 100% certain I can do that with the top two.

I would like a lawn mower that will last a good long while. Looks like I narrowed my choices down to four Troy-Bilt, three Husqvarna, and one Poulan. Does anyone have any insights on these mowers? Are the good solid mowers that last? Is it really that much easier using a Self-Propelled instead of a push mower since the Self-Propelled are more expensive?

Need help and advice with buying a lawn mower

Starting issues...got a weird one

(Cross-posting, just to make sure I hit all the bases!)

Hi all,

I'm helping my friends get their Cub Cadet 1330 going. It was running when they bought it two weeks ago, but when they tried their first mow last week, it ran for 10 minutes, made a popping sound (it sounds like they mean backfired), and then wouldn't start. I went over, found badly deteriorated fuel lines and some minor rubber debris in the bowl. Well, when I say minor, I mean it was quite a few particles, but small in size, still easy to see, though. Anyway, I pulled the carb bowl, cleaned it out, checked the float, it's solid, checked and replaced the needle (I had one from a rebuild kit for the Walbro that wasn't used), and sprayed out the passages I could get to with the carb intact. Checked the spark plug - it's older, but in good shape, so cleaned and put back in. Oil was recently changed - still very clear.

I put it back together, charged the battery and after a few seconds she started and ran like she should. I ran it for a good half hour, mowed some, stopped, waited a minute or two, and started again. Did this three times, all was well. I packed up my tools (about 10 minutes or so), and thought I'd try one more time - now it takes a minute or two before it sounds like it wants to start, though it has strong turn-over. Once it starts, it runs great.

Update since yesterday: When it sat overnight, it started with almost no problem. Ran it for 10-15 minutes, let it sit for maybe 5-10, and hard starting again.

What am I looking at here? Should I break the carb down, remove all the foam and gaskets, and give it a good soak in Berryman's? It seems like it HAS to be a carb issue, but I'm no pro, so I'm asking you guys who are!

It's a Cub Cadet 1330, 12.5 hp Kohler. The mower is in absolutely grade A condition otherwise - no paint scrapes or chips, no rust, only the most minor deck rust, all original paint as far as I can tell. The only things wrong besides the starting issue is a missing headlight lens and the blades need a sharpening.
Any help?

Thanks,
Jack

2 barrel Nikki flooding

I'm flooding gas in the carb; can see a puddle in the intake. I put a new needle in it and checked that the float does indeed float level in a container of water.

The float is plastic. I don't see anything in the manual for float adjustment.

I gravity feed from the gas tank, if that makes any difference. It's on a 20hp Vanguard.

Any suggestions to cure my problem?

Problem with surging

A buddy asked me to winterization his 06 John Deere x300 with a Kawasaki. I asked him to starting it to reach operation temperature. I noticed at slow rpms the engine was surging but fine at high rpms. So, I sprayed some seafoam in the air intake while at low rpms and the surging stopped but only while I was spraying. Once I stopped spraying the surging came back. I gave a few more quick burst of sea foam then sprayed until it stalled out. Let it hot soak for 10-15 minutes and restarted. After the white cleared the engine is now surging at all rpms. Did I or sea foam make matters worse. I read on here it might be a vacuum leak?
I then fogged the engine, changed the spark plugs, put in new air filter, changed the oil and filter and installed a new fuel filter. I did notice the plugs were out by.005-.007 inch. So I properly gapped the new plugs, sprayed fog oil in each cylinder and installed those. And the fuel filter was quite full of debris. Oh, I forgot to say that before I sprayed the sea foam we drained some oil out and put in marvel mystery oil and put in 3 oz of sea foam on the gas tank with 3 gallons of fresh gas.

Thanks,
Tom

B&S 6.75 126M02-1031-F1 suddenly backfires, will not start

In July, 2013, I replaced a blown B&S on my Toro SR 20055 with a Briggs and Stratton 126M02-1031-F1 190cc 6.75 Engine. Have not had a single problem, at all, until last weekend. I used it, let it sit for an hour or so, then tipped it slightly onto the side (gas tank was virtually empty) to scrape off some gunk that had built up on the kickers. Added gas. Went to start it back up, and nothing. Pulled a dozen or so times, and nothing. Not even a sputter. Then, bam ... sounded like a *very* loud gunshot. Not your average backfire. A dozen more pulls, and the same thing. Seems to be coming from the muffler, not the carb. I didn't hit anything. It hasn't been banged around. Already changed the plug a few months back. I can't understand why it would suddenly die like this after only being tipped on an angle?? I tried today, a week later, and the same thing. Even tried starter fluid. no luck.
I haven't checked the flywheel key yet. Any other recommendations? Sticky valve perhaps? Aside from ripping apart the engine, any way to remedy that?
Thanks in advance!!

Husqvarna 223L spews out line

I have a Husqvarna 223L trimmer which served me well for several years. I eventually wore out the feeder head and replaced it with a head I bought at Tractor Supply. I think it was a T35 head, and it worked okay for year or two, then, if the end of the string hit a rock or something, it would spontaneously feed out line until it wrapped around the head.

I got a new T35 head at Tractor Supply and it shortly began doing the same thing, only worse. It does this with .085 Stihl line and with Echo .095 line. At this point, the trimmer is unusable. What do I need to do?

Stihl BG 56

Hello, new to this forum hope some one can help. I just bought a leaf blower shedder last week. Started using it today and was really careful not to suck up any branches. Well One got caught up in the turbine area. The machine automatically turned off. I took the blower/sucker tube off and cleaned out the blockage. I then put the machine back together and now can not get the machine to start. The pull cord will not allow me to pull in order to start the machine. Any suggestions?

Ethanol in gas

Had my Echo pan pack blower survey for the first time since it would not run when squeezing the throttle. The shop said it was the ethanol in the regular gas that attracts water and then gums up the carburetor. His advice was to use high octane gas and it is only good for some 2 months and fuel stabilizer is virtually useless.

I guess this is true??? I have read much about it on line and also read that there is one stabilizer that works Star Tron ??? Is this true??

Model 113-011A (1983)

Does anyone remember if the 1983 18" side-discharge model 113-011A (not to be confused with the original 113-011 which was sold in 1973) came with a Tecumseh AV520 85 cc 2-cycle engine like its predecessors? Like all 1983 (and later) model year mowers it had a blade-stopping device, this in the form of an "extended rope start" dead man's clutch.

The 113-020A was similar, but had the common Briggs & Stratton 92502 series 3 HP 4-cycle engine.

As far as I know, the 2-cycle engine model should read "AV520-653011M."

Mowers like this would have had the Lawnflite series name. 1983 also seems to be the only year the 2-cycle model (011) had the dead man clutch, while the 4-cycle version (020) continued up to 1989 (as 020R).

Please let me know what you remember.

Thank you,

Ben Edge

Best rider for my needs?

I'm purchasing a house with 1.1 acres of land, the front makes up about 2/3 of the lot and is gently sloped. The back is a moderately sloped and about 1/3 of the lot. It also has a two lane asphalt driveway about 100 ft long. I may need to remove snow on occasion. I have JD, Cub Cadet, Toro, and Husqvarna dealers very close, all within about 2 miles, as well as Lowe's. Sears less than 10 miles. TSC, Northern Tool and an independent that sells Honda as well as other brands. The independent is probably the largest parts dealer around, metro area of about 250,000 people.

Honda 3818 starter issue

I have a Honda 3813, I pulled the engine and replaced the starter about a 1 1/2 years ago. Has run great till now. Now when I turn the key to start, I only get a buzzing noise from the starter solenoid. Some times when I turn the key I get the buzzing noise, and a spark comes from the positive post of the battery. I've checked all the connections. I've replaced the battery and starter solenoid, but still the same buzzing noise. I disconnected the solenoid and starter connections, ran a wire from the positive connection on the starter and touch the positive post of the battery, and the starter engages, and turns the engine over. Is this a starter problem, possibly shorting inside the starter? Any help would be appreciated.

Your Ideal Mower?

I work for a mower OEM manufacturer. I'm getting my feet wet with this app and wanted to ask a question. As you can imagine, we do a lot of thinking about mowers around here, both for pros and homeowners.

One thing we'd love to know is... If you could design the perfect riding/zero turn mower, what three features would it have? You could include specific features about safety, electronics, power, high-tech - the sky's the limit here.

I'll check back periodically to see your ideas.

Thanks!

Mower Repair Equipments

Hie..
Through this article I will suggest you the basic steps of repairing Mower-
You should disconnect the spark plug lawnmower before you start with the repair so that their are no chances of the engine starting. It is good to wear working gloves, because engines have sharp blades and dirt which can give you an infection. For Eye protection wear glasses so that gasoline and dirt do not end up in your eye.
I hope you are comfortable with this tip.

Hello,
Just joined the site. I have 917.28870 Craftsman Professional 24 H.P. Intel ELS engine and a 42" deck. Purchased this lawn tractor in 2008, it has 625 hours of heavy use mowing up hills and on rough terrain 1-2 acres. I have serviced it myself religiously. Major repairs has been replacing a broken cast iron axle, mower deck spindles and spindle assemblies for the tires. Last week while chopping up leaves with my bagger the HST went out in reverse. I was able to drive the tractor forward but no go in reverse. I'm figuring the Tufftorq K46BT finally wore out. The engine has had no problems. It looks like I'm looking for a new lawn/garden tractor with a heavier duty transmission. Any suggestions? Any market for a awn tractor in this condition? The local LS dealer I bought a LS XG3037H tractor suggested a Ariens.
Thanks, this looks like a great site for lawn and garden tractors

cast iron briggs

hello all , please can anyone help ....I foolishly took the rings off a piston with out noting which groove they came off .....I have looked at many picture of different ring types and fitting instructions but have not identified my type ....so

the engine is 10hp horizontal cast iron (old style) 243400 ....the piston has 3 rings compression , wiper , and oil

1.. ring has an internal chamfer easily 2/3rds the thickness of the ring ...that finishes with a small flat at the bottom of the ring

2...ring has an internal chamfer only 1/3rd of the thickness of the ring that finishes with a larger flat at the bottom of the ring

so 1 ring with a large slope and 1 with a small slope , there is no steps or grooves just slopes

if anyone has seen this configuration what ring is fitted the first from the top of the piston (main compression ring)

Fuel valve shutoff

What is the part number for the fuel shutoff valve gasket for the 10515 f series?. you know the kind with the open and close lever?: Seems to be a hard to find item. They look pretty easy to make but is there another way to modify the tank to go with a more modern trouble free shutoff valve? No turning the gasket around is not the solution or is it?

Vanguard 31hp problem

I am using this engine on a custom vehicle and have run into a problem where I am apparently running on only a single cylinder. We noticed the exhaust note was different (running dual exhaust) from one side to the other. Upon closer inspection the exhaust from one cylinder was cool all the way up to the header pipe. That side is getting spark and sparkplug is working. Also checked compression on both cylinders and both are at 120 psi. So it appears there is some sort of fuel issue in the carb. I am still using the anti-diesel valve in the carb and am using an external electronic fuel pump. Is it possible the carb could be blocked so that fuel only flows to one cylinder?

Thanks for any insight before I tear into the carb.

GCV 160 Engine does not start.

Two attempts ago I managed to cut the lawn, but the engine took forever to get started, and ran weakly upon mowing. I read up on the problem (google is filled with problems on the GCV 160), and i, indicated that the spark plug was the problem. I changed this and started the mower in my basement and it ran just fine for 30 seconds or so before I shut it off thinking it was fixed. I go to do the final cut of the season, and low and behold, it its the same problem; starts up after a battle and dies seconds later. This machine was bought this past spring, pretty disappointed.

I have the thing apart and am working on it, but don't really know what direction to go in? Carb, fly wheel? Anyone have any ideas? I'm not a complete newbie to lawn mower repair.

B&S Vanguard spark problem

I need some help on this problem. Engine is a stock 20HP Vanguard, horizontal shaft, Nikki 2 bbl carb, model 351447-1180-A1.
I bought it used. It would start and run.

After getting it home I pulled the spark plugs. #1 was black, smelled of gas. #2 looked good - nice light brown color.
I put a spark tester between the #1 plug wire and plug - plug was firing. But, if I pulled #1 plug wire off when the engine was at idle, the engine ran at the same rpm - no change at all. If I pulled #2 plug wire off the engine stopped.

I switched spark plugs from side to side. Same conditions applied, except the black plug changed to light brown when put in #2 cylinder.

I tested #1 magneto: 5.8K ohms.
Valves are adjusted to 0.005"
I checked the diodes in the kill wire and both are good.
The magneto is set at 0.010" from the flywheel magnet.
Carb idle mixture screws are turned out 3/4 turn.
Idle speed is 1200 rpm.
Compression is 140 psi in both cylinders
I have cleaned the carb (ultrasonic cleaner), new float needle, checked that the float does indeed float level in a container of water.

With the muffler off, I can see occasional blue flame at #1 cylinder exhaust port. Not so much at #2 exhaust.
Engine rpm wanders, some times increasing, settling back to idle.

So, I'm asking for possible solutions to my problem. I think it's ignition related. Other opinions?

Scag Turf Tiger Won't start

I have an (approx) 2004 Scag Turf Tiger with 61" deck that won't start. The mower has about 360 hours total (averaging around 30-40 hours per year) and is used to cut grass at my home. This non-starting issue has been going on for a couple years now and has frustrated me and the Scag dealer who seems to be at a loss. I'll give as much background as I can piece together from memory and service records. .

Episode #1: Two years ago I was mowing on the backside of my dam and the mower stalled in some thick grass on a pretty steep slope. I tried to restart it, but the mower was dead and would not turn over at all. I checked the fuses under the seat and found the bottom 20A fuse blown. I replaced the fuse and tried to start. The mower was still dead and I found the second fuse blown. I did this two more times with identical results. Hauled mower to Scag dealer and they replaced a relay somewhere and the mower ran fine.

Episode #2: Last year I was mowing, cut engine to talk to someone and the mower failed to restart. Identical symptoms to previous episode...blown fuses, no turning over, no sound, just dead fuse. Back to dealer. Again, no clear "smoking gun"...they replaced a wiring harness (#483440) and the mower ran fine.

Episode#4: A month after Episode #2, I experienced the exact same symptom...mowing like a champ, turn it off to talk, then dead. Fuse blown. Dealer changed out battery and could find nothing else wrong. Mower ran fine after this, but neither dealer nor I thought we'd really gotten to the bottom of the issue. .

Episode #5: Identical to Episodes 2&3, except the fuses were NOT blown. But mower was completely dead. I decided to let mower sit in my driveway overnight and see if a cold start gave different result. It did! So I mowed for 45 minutes, pulled it onto the trailer and hauled it to dealer. Mower would not reproduce the symptoms, it ran fine and dealer was at a loss for what to do since nothing was wrong (apparently).

Episode #6: Two days ago I ran the mower for several hours successfully, though I never turned it off until I finished working. Yesterday, I tried to start the mower cold and it was dead, no fuses blown. I happened to have a guy here who works for a big landscape company and he tried to trouble shoot the mower. Battery tested at 13.5V. There does seem to be a faint "clicking" sound when the ignition was turned on. The guy held a screwdriver across the starter terminals and got the motor to turn over, but the exhaust was very "gassy" smelling and I could see what appeared to be unburned gas. It sounded as though the engine was turning over but not firing...which I thought explained the visible and gassy exhaust.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for sharing what you know,

Bob

Cub Cadet ES 760cc rear wheel drive

Hi all. I'm a new member and have a question or two regarding the Cub Cadet 33" walk behind mower. It's the Es 760 cc. Can anyone tell me if both rear wheels have traction of their own. Do they both turn with power independently? In other words, if you jack the rear end of the mower off the ground and engage the gears, will both wheels turn on their own with equal power or does just one wheel do all the driving and the other just follows?
Thanks.

Recgarge G2 mower questions

I have a Recharge G2 mower that a friend gave me and even though I figured out how to get it running I am looking for a wiring diagram. Also maybe someone knows what the 2 green lights and on/off rocker switch are that are on the control panel. They are not shown in my owners manual. One of the lights is for the controller error codes but not sure what the other one, or the switch, is.

CMM1200 starts, but runs very slowly

I have a CMM1200 that was a warranty replacement for a CMM875. The CMM1200 portion is seven years old. I've replaced a hinge pin on it and nothing else... so far.

This mower has always worked consistently for me. I tend to mow every 2nd or 3rd weekend - usually the front yard one day and the back the next. I always keep it plugged into the charger when not in use. All of a sudden, I went to start it after a slightly longer break (5-6 weeks) and it was running very weakly. I managed to mow for about 15 minutes before the blade wasn't turning fast enough to cut grass. I plugged it in to charge overnight and got the green, fully charged light. But the mower is still running extremely slowly. It sounds like nothing is happening and after a few seconds you can hear (and see) the blades moving very slowly.

Today, I opened it up and took a multimeter to it (as best I could). Each individual battery measures right at 12 volts at rest. In series, they measure 24v at rest. When I pull the handle lever, the motor starts, but it runs extremely slowly. I tried measuring the voltage through the brushes to the motor and it went from 0 to a max of about 5v after 15-20 seconds.

I'm at a loss on what else to diagnose to figure out what might need to be replaced. Any thoughts?

Scag Freedom Z 48 won't start

I didn't want to jump into others that seem to have this problem so I started my own thread. My freedom Z is now just out of warranty with 37 hours on it. It's in the G19 serial number series. Has the Kawasaki 600 motor. Last year under warranty I replaced the starter solenoid as that had gone bad. With that you could hear the relay click but it wouldn't start. Dealer had a new and improved relay as the original was a known problem. Now when I turn the key there is no clicking down on the starter relay. In fact there is no clicking anywhere. I jumped the 2 posts with a screw driver and it starts and runs well. I saw on other threads about a relay next to the starter switch. I pulled the starter panel and don't see a safety relay on this mower under the starter panel. There are 2 20 amp fuses next to the box and they are both good. I keep the mower on a battery tender 24/7 so I know the battery is not the issue. Probably a safety switch some where. Any guidance on how to proceed with my multimeter?

Snapper RER wouldn't start

I have an old Snapper RER, Model 3314518BVE, that I bought in 2001. It has been quite good, with only routine maintenance, etc. A few days ago, I ran it for a couple of hours to mulch up a bunch of leaves in the yard, and when done, I cleaned it off with the leaf blower...as I always do, before putting it back in the shed. When I went to drive it back into the workshop, it wouldn't start. I horsed it into the shop, and did some basic troubleshooting. The starter solenoid wasn't "picking", so I figured it had gone bad, and ordered a new one. I got the new solenoid this past Thursday, and installed it...Same results...the engine would not turn over. So...I did some serious troubleshooting.

The engine and starter motor are ok...I pulled the plug, and ran a momentary jumper to the start motor, and it and the engine spun up properly. I checked the ignition switch and it was putting 12V to the "pick" coil on the starter solenoid, but the solenoid still wouldn't "pick". I then took the meter, and using the operator owners manual wiring diagrams, etc., I checked the interlock switches, metered for any opens or shorts in the wiring, and basically went through the entire electrical system, and found nothing. It seemed that the only thing that would operate with the ignition key was the carburetor solenoid. After a couple of hours of this routine, I put everything back together, and tried it One more time...And it fired right up. I have no idea what I did that might have fixed it. I ran it around the yard for about 15 minutes, and put it up for the day. Yesterday, and again today, I tried it, and it fired up ok, both times. I'm going to leave it sit for a few days, and try it again next week.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I might look for, beyond what I've done? Are there any better wiring diagrams available...the owners manual schematics seem to be written by someone who probably never actually saw the mower. I checked the Snapper web-site, but they have nothing for this old mower. I have saved up some money to buy a new riding mower/tractor, and if I have any more troubles with this old beast, I will probably opt for a new mower next Spring, but If I can keep this old Snapper running good, I'll save my money until I absolutely have to spend it.

Thanks, in advance.....

Buying Advice Walker Mowers

I had a demo with a new 14 hp Walker S model. It is a carburetor Subaru air cooled engine w/ splash oil system. It has the small 7 bu bin, a 12.5" fan and will take a 42" deck maximum. I have also found a 2008 model 31 hp with larger 9.5 bu bin, 52" deck (I would like a 48") with 1,800 hrs on it. The smaller new one is $8,000 and the used one is $6,500. I will be using it for personal use on about 1A of grass (level). I favor the used unit because I like the idea of wide width tires (less footprint) + being able to use a 48" deck.
I think the used 2008 model has a 10" fan. I would like your opinions on which might be the best way to go. Thanks, Frosty

raptor SD blower bagger

Hello I'm new to the sight, and I have a few questions about my mower. I bought this mower new last month to mow my newly seeded lawn, I did by the bagger but it doesn't bag the grass well at all or hardly at all would be more realistic. It just cakes up underneath the deck and then giant clumps fall out all over my new lawn. So my question is , has anyone here ever found a blower bagger system for this mower? Im pretty discouraged even when it kinda works it blows leaves and grass out from under the front of the deck as if the shoot was plugged up. I contacted the hustler and they said they thought I either put the wrong high lift blade on or didn't put it on at all. wrong! does anyone have any advice for me? thank you

Must have tools?

Hello guys, its been a long time since I have been on this forum but I was hoping I could get some information from you guys. I'm interested in getting into small engine repair as a sort of hobby, but I own absolutely no tools. I have a bit of spare money and I was hoping I could get some general information on what the "must haves" are that would allow you to pretty much do any job?

Thanks.

Frustrated, trying to get Weedeater to run.

I've got a few older weedeaters I'm trying to get running, and I am having some difficulty. Take for example, a couple of featherlite models of different vintages. Both have 120lbs compression, as measured via a compression tester replacing the spark-plug, both have good spark, as indicated by a visual in-line spark tester. One has brand new carb, the other has a rebuilt carb. New fuel lines and in-tank fuel filter. Both will pump up gas into the primer bulb. Neither one will go. Very frustrated at what should be solvable. I have had great success with Lawnboy 2-cycle lawnmowers. What am I missing here?

Power problem on my i1046

Hi, new member here!
We have 2 cub cadets and the i1046 is having power problems. It is about 6 years old. The motor doesn't bog down, but it just doesn't have the normal power it used to. For instance: cannot make a climb, loses power on turns, and doesn't have the get up and go it used to...(sounds like me:laughing:). Could this be a drive belt problem?

muffler full of grass

Well I have stopped with old snow blower( 1964 bobcat) and decided to take a closer look at my long neglected old faithful that showed signs of smoking this fall. I've had this mower for many years and originally bought at a lawn sale. I don't know what year it is but the model no. 5126 and sn is 9364475. I took the muffler off which had a hole in it and inside was loaded with oily grass clipping which I assume entered the muffler through the hole and might be the cause of some of the smoking. If anyone could give me information, like the year or where I might get parts, etc. that would be appreciated.

Pull Cord barely retracts - Briggs & Stratton, Snapper mower

The Pull Start Cord was VERY slow to retract after it was pulled, like a snake that reluctantly returns to its burrow taking 2 minutes to do so.
I first disassembled the retractor spring unit and tightened it up but that lasted only 1 day before it was back to slow retraction.
I noted that the ratchet mechanism was not turning very easily and suspected that was why the rewind mechanism had a difficult time retracting the cord after trying a pull start.
Then I disassembled the ratchet mechanism which was underneath the cord spring unit and above the flywheel. I only had to remove 5 bolts to expose the ratchet mechanism. I cleaned up the 6 ball bearings, cleaned up the ratchet after removing it, reapplied light grease to the crankshaft that the ratchet fits over so that the ratchet now spins extremely easily. Evidently the old lubricant and dust had combined to reduce movement.
When the ratchet mechanism was reassembled, the cord retracts like it did when the mower was new.
This time I think it will continue to work freely for a long time. I'll report back if it fails to do so.

Billy Goat AE401H maintenance questions

I am reading the manual for my aerator about how to perform the maintenance.

I had a few questions:

1. They say to use a grease gun to lube the bearings. I didn't use that. I used this type of oil that I get at a rustproofing center and it is oil that can be used on anything. Should I hit the bearings again with the grease gun or am I fine?

2. They talk about adjusting the belt and chains. I know how to do that, but when they tell me 1/4"-3/8" chain slack, how does one know that? I usually just gauge this. Is there any other way to really know? I just gauge by fingering the belt or chain to see if it has a bit of slack. I use my common sens on this.

Rebuild or replace with a new or rebuilt short block? Who has the best deal?

This is one of those "DUH" things. I overfilled my 6 year old 21hp Intek engine during my last oil change. Got distracted, didn't really realize it at the moment. Thought the engine would just burn any excess oil out of the engine and that would be the end of it. Well apparently not.

Now it's burning oil all the time. Fresh oil immediately turns black as coal. Yesterday I was mulching leaves and the engine started to sputter. I pulled the spark plug and it was coked up with ash deposits from where it's burning so much oil. Gave it a good bead blasting in my cabinet and mulched some more.

Apparently overfilling the engine with oil will damage the rings. According to a guy I work with who works on lawnmowers.

I'm hoping I can keep enough "used" oil in this engine to prevent it from seizing up until I can finish mulching up these leaves. Then repair the engine this winter.

Question:

I have not talked to my co-worker to see how much it would cost to fix this engine.

I am mechanically inclined but out of all the things I've done with cars and mowers, I have never actually installed new rings in an engine. Other than putting together rebuilt short blocks and cylinder heads in cars and dropping them in.

I'm not sure if that's all it would take to control the oil burning. Did I screw up the valve seals along with it?

Any chance I just messed up the PVC system and that might be why it's burning oil? I know that there is a diaphragm inside the PVC box on the side of the engine and if it goes bad, it will such oil into the breather and blow oil all over the engine (seen it happen on a Tecumseh) but not sure if that would cause the engine to burn oil. I suppose I could look in the breather and see if I see any excess oil.

Or is that wishful thinking?

Now might be a good opportunity to learn how to install new rings in an engine! But my time is limited.

My idea would be to buy a new short block and transfer all the bits from my old engine over to it myself. Or tear the engine down to the short block and take it to him and have him install new rings or whatever else it needs. To save some money.

Can I even buy a remanufactured short block with or without a core charge?

I'm trying to weigh the cost of someone else's labor versus new parts.

What's my best option?

I don't have the model number handy but it's a 21hp Intek vertical shaft engine. Who has the best deals on shortblocks?

What are some of my other options? Or than buying a used engine?

I actually have a good 15 HP Kolher engine that is on an old Snapper with a seized transmission but don't think it would have the balls to turn the blades on a mower with a 48" dual blade deck.

I tried replacing a seized Briggs 11, 12 or 13 HP (can't remember) engine on an old 1979 Snapper with an 8HP Tecumseh engine and if the grass was more than 6" high, it would stall the engine. So I think the same thing would happen with this Craftsman mower if I drooped down from a 21 to a 15 HP engine. I'm not sure if I want to go that route.

Remove reverse cut out sensor?

My Husqvarna CT151 has a cut-out connected to the reverse selector, that if the blades are spinning and the reverse gear is selected, the engine will cut out. This is a pain as our garden is large with lots of obstacles, nook & crannies which involves lots of to-ing and fro-ing. At the moment I have to move forward, disengage the blades, reverse out, engage the blades and rinse and repeat. Recently we had to replace the cutter blade clutch which was expensive. I don't know if repeated engaging/disengaging of the blades contributed to the worn clutch.

Is there a particular reason why this safety feature is there? I certainly want to know the hazards that motivated the company to put it in before deciding to disable this.

Many thanks!

Towing with CT151

Lately doing some garden work, I've had to move large piles of plant waste and it is very time consuming. I've got a CT151 lawn tractor and a large, light trailer which I'd like to use to help me move the plant waste. The trailer has a standard ball hitch, while the back of the mower at the bottom has a triangular flat steel plate with a hole in which I think is the trailer hitch. What would be the best way to link the two? Should I get a ball hitch like this one and put it in the steel triangle? I may need to widen the hole, but would this work?

Many thanks!

Pi9cked this old horse up a few days ago.
Kohler 8hp horizontal shaft engine has compression, tires hold air and it's not missing any parts, except of course the cutting deck.
My plan is to first of all see if I can get it running later today. If all goes well, then I might repaint it later on.
I've never seen one of these before in person, they're way before my time. So I'm getting quite a history lesson here.

2 stroke carb question

Let me start by saying that 2 stroke carbs are my nemesis, I hate working on them. When I'm asked to look at one for a friend I usually end up recommending replacement right off the bat.

I have an Echo PB-2100 leaf blower that I've had for a LONG time, she's been good to me.
It was running rough so I took the carb apart, completely apart and went through it about three times. I replaced the diaphragm. It starts right up now and runs strong....as long as I'm pointing it at the sky! When I lower it the engine will bog down and choke out. If I point it up it runs strong again. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

The fuel lines are in very good condition, replaced not long ago. It has a new fuel filter and spark plug. I've blown air into the lines to see if the lines were cracked or had a pin hole but found no leaks.

Ride on mower electrical issue

Hi all

Got a problem with my bahia mbhe ride on mower it has the brings and Stratton diamond ic 13.5 hp single cylinder engine.

When I got it the wiring loom was a bin job so I ordered a new complete one from the manufacturer ( etesia - France ) and fitted it.

I seem to have an issue with the safty cutouts as it won't stop when the seat is empty or if I turn of the ignition.

For it to start both forward and reverse peddles must be in line, handbrake on and blade switch off. If any are not done it won't fire.

I'm 90% sure it's a wrong wire some were or maybe there needs to be a diode fitted some were in the loom as my old one had one.

I've added some pictures if you guys could take a look and see if anything stands out or looks wrong wire wise.

Here's link to pics of it now + wiring diagrams for cross refrance.

Anyone else having electrical/starter switch issues with Toro Timecutter SS 4235 ??

For many years I had a 1990s Cub Cadet and eventually removed or replaced every OEM switch and wiring component.

It appears the same may be necessary with the new Toro. I can tell there is excessive voltage drop in the ignition/starter switch circuit. Sometimes the solenoid just clicks the first couple of tries and then eventually engages. Sometimes it is necessary to put a battery charger on the battery to get the switch to engage the solenoid. This is with a known good battery and all connections clean and tight.

Back to the Cub, over the ten years I owned it, the same symptoms presented and every safety switch, starter switch and PTO switch eventually had to be removed or replaced for the machine to reliably start and run. Is this also going to be necessary with a two-year-old Toro?

Briggs and Stratton Crankshaft binding after installing new bearings and rod

I am rebuilding a Toro CCR3650 Briggs and Stratton 6.5 horsepower motor, the piston, rod, and connecting rod bearings were damaged by the motor running at a very high speed. I have installed the connecting rod bearings using white grease and attached it to the crankshaft. When I rotate the piston, it now appears to be binding in one location. I don't know where it is binding, as it should rotate smoothly. The crankshaft appears to be in good condition. I have not used any emery cloth to lightly sand it down. Does anyone have any thoughts? The crankshaft may have now a flat spot on it after the engine got damaged. I am considering on either purchasing a new short block, or just replacing the crankshaft. Thank you for your help!

2012 Turf Tiger MODEL: STT61V-791DFI dies while mowing

I have a Turf Tiger with a problem that is driving my family nuts. The mower is 2012 Turf Tiger MODEL: STT61V-791DFI SERIAL: G5100046 HOURS: 906, it is water cooled, fuel injected Kawasaki 29HP with a 61 Velocity Deck.

I have searched online for a while and have not found anything much to help. For the last 3 months the Turf Tiger just up and bogs down while mowing and then dies. If you shut of the mowing deck quickly, it will keep on running. It happens sometimes after 1-2 minutes and sometimes after an hour or two.

I changed the plugs, fuel filter 3 times, after finding so much dirt I drained the gas tank and cleaned it pretty good. I added some fuel treatment and premium gas to fill the tank.

I would really like to mow my yard & leaves before storing it for the winter.
Thanks to anyone with ideas.

Troy-Bilt 47321 Chippewa style chipper/shredder

Hi All,
I am running a Craftsman (MTD) 8hp chipper/shredder, probably 20+yrs old. It runs fine but I'm looking to upgrade. Can anyone tell me about the Troy-Bilt 47321 Chippewa style 10hp chipper/shredder, including when it was made and how it compares with the Craftsman I have, and how it compares with a Bearcat 8hp chipper/shredder. The Troy-Bilt 47321 is available with an asking price of $450 and claims to be 3 yrs old.....:confused2:

I have used a Bearcat 8hp and like the clutch mechanism, missing from the Craftsman but present on the Troy-Bilt. I haven't been able to locate much about the 47321, just a parts list... no manual or comments to be found. I'm guessing its an early nineties vintage.

Thanks for any comments/info.
