I cut residential lawns part time using the above mower. It is a 2010 model. Now marketed as the ZT HD. 25 hp Kohler Courage engine. I cut mostly large lawns-an acre or better- for the past 3 years. This mower is NOT commercial but has performed exceptionally well.
About a month ago it started developing cut quality problems. It "misses" about 15% of the grass.
Wheels naturally push down the grass but the lift (vacuum) of the deck has always lifted the grass to cut as it is designed to do. Suddenly it is not. I have noticed leaves & such do not get sucked up into the deck as they used to, instead the get blown away from the deck. (I remember once 2 yrs ago I accidentally sucked a customers bundled newspaper into the deck from about 12'' away!)
I have had it into my dealer & my mech has checked it out. We have proper length blades, very sharp, clean deck, pitch correct, leveled, tires evenly inflated. Belt is not slipping, engine is at 3600 RPM as it should be. I have OEM blades & a tried a set of Gators as well. No better. Even at 1/3 speed it misses grass.
I am having to cut each lawn TWICE at nearly full speed to conserve time, as mowing slowly does not help. Gas usage is killing my profits.
Any ideas? Anyone experienced this problem?
