Honda's Factory, R&D, and Test Field

Honda lawn mowers are built at Honda's factory in Swepsonville, NC (HPE in photo). Right next door is Honda Research and Development (HRAN), where new products are designed and tested, and they have a +4 acre testing field.

"When you're mulching grass, you have to make sure the lawn mower is cutting the grass evenly so you don't get big clumps of grass in your yard," said HRA-N Test Engineer Andrew Bejcek. "That's the reason we have grass from different regions of the world growing on the test field, so we can make sure our lawn mowers work on the same kinds of grass as our customers'."

The test field is where the majority of testing is done for Honda's lawn and garden products. But, there is other more sophisticated equipment for testing Honda's power equipment as well, like HRA-N's climate-controlled vibration table, anechoic sound chamber, scanning electron microscope and high-speed video cameras.
